Chapter 749 - 737: I Want You to Marry Me (25)
Archie Lockwood suppressed his emotions. His expression grim, he spoke again, "Bishop..."
"Come with me." With a stern expression, Harold Bishop glanced at Archie Lockwood. He rose to his feet, uttered the cold words, and walked away.
Archie Lockwood followed Harold Bishop.
In the study, Harold Bishop pulled a black leather suitcase from under his desk. He set it on top, tapped the case twice, and said, "There’s twenty million in here."
"Bishop, what is this...?" Archie Lockwood’s expression soured, his brows knitting together tightly.
Harold Bishop sat in the chair behind his desk, his expression grave. "I know Eleanor took a considerable amount of money from you," he said in a low voice. "For now, this is all I can come up with. I’ll find a way to pay back the rest."
"Bishop, you must have some misunderstanding. I only came today hoping to see Eleanor. I have no other intentions." ’Do I look like someone who came to demand money? Or do I look like I’m short on cash?’
After a few seconds of silence, Harold Bishop looked up at Archie Lockwood with a complicated expression. "The only reason Eleanor ended up with you back then was because I was too indulgent. That led to this whole mess, and this mistake shouldn’t be allowed to continue." ’I don’t quite understand what this man’s intentions are toward Eleanor...’
"Bishop, regardless of anything else, Eleanor is my daughter’s biological mother. The mistake has been made and can’t be undone. So please, I’m asking you to let me see her, just once."
At the thought of the granddaughter he had never met, Harold Bishop’s resolve visibly softened.
He lowered his head and let out a long sigh.
’He knew his own daughter’s temperament better than anyone. It was just that being with a man like Archie Lockwood was too dangerous.’
Seeing Harold Bishop remain silent for so long, Archie Lockwood began to get anxious. "Bishop..."
Harold Bishop frowned at Archie Lockwood. "You want to see Eleanor? Fine. First, hand over custody of my granddaughter."
’Custody?’
Archie Lockwood’s entire expression turned grim.
"What? Can’t do it?" Harold Bishop asked, looking at Archie Lockwood with amusement.
’Of course he couldn’t do it! It was still uncertain if he and Eleanor Bishop would even get back together; how could he possibly gamble with Rory’s custody?’
"Bishop, I think you’ve misunderstood. I want to see Eleanor because I want to get back together with her. Therefore, the question of handing over custody is moot."
"Mr. Lockwood, I can see your feelings for Eleanor aren’t genuine. So, as for the two of you, just forget it. And as you yourself said before, our Eleanor will no longer appear before you."
Archie Lockwood’s face darkened, and he said with a hint of anger, "Bishop, you’re not Eleanor Bishop. You can’t refuse me on her behalf."
"Heh. Mr. Lockwood, I think that as Eleanor’s father, I am more than qualified to refuse you on her behalf." Harold Bishop was so exasperated by Archie Lockwood’s attitude that he let out a laugh.
’Not qualified?’
’He was her father! Would Eleanor dare to go off with anyone without his say-so?’
Fuming, Archie Lockwood spun around and stormed out.
’He’d never been able to stand Eleanor Bishop’s family.’
’That Ms. Ross before had been detestable enough, but it looked like this Mayor Bishop was even worse.’
’At least Ms. Ross could be paid off with a little money, but Mayor Bishop clearly wasn’t someone who could be handled so easily...’
