Chapter 424 - 422: This Year’s Junior Sisters are of High Quality
However, the more bustling the event, the more it proved how capable his son was. As a father, Xue Yuanqing was naturally happy to see it. Therefore, he wasn’t too disappointed, even though he hadn’t managed to see the car he wanted to today. Once my son makes the big bucks, what kind of car won’t I be able to have? At that thought, his mood improved even more.
Lin Xi sat on a stool, her gaze sweeping over the bustling car show, feeling quite happy herself. Her large eyes twinkled, making her look even more like a doll.
"What’s this? Seeing your man being so impressive must be making you secretly ecstatic," Si Wen teased with a grin, propping her chin on her hand.
"Si Wen, no one would think you were mute if you just kept quiet," Lin Xi chided playfully.
"Hey, I’m bored! You won’t chat with me, so I have to take the initiative." Si Wen was indeed quite bored, as there was no one around for her to tease. The one person she could banter with, Xue Xing, wasn’t there. It was utterly mind-numbing.
"You’re bored even though it’s so lively?"
Si Wen shrugged helplessly. "There are too many people, otherwise I’d be out there joining in the fun."
"If you’re really that bored, play a game on your phone."
"Nope. Playing games in a lively place just makes it feel even more boring."
Lin Xi nodded, feeling that made sense.
"Boss Lady!"
Just then, a loud voice caught their attention.
Zhong Hailan immediately stood up, positioning herself protectively in front of Lin Xi and Si Wen as she sized up the newcomer. "You are... you’re a staff member here, right?"
It couldn’t be helped. Lin Xi and Si Wen were so strikingly beautiful that Zhong Hailan constantly worried someone might try to snatch them away.
Sun Yufei looked at the woman who bore a slight resemblance to Xue Yang and said, "Auntie, you must be the boss’s mother, right? You’re so beautiful! No wonder the boss is so handsome."
Hearing her son being complimented, Zhong Hailan’s expression toward Sun Yufei softened. "What a sweet-talker. What’s your name, young lady?"
"Auntie, my name is Sun Yufei. Boss Lady, I finally get to meet you!" Sun Yufei was so moved she was on the verge of tears. She had been kicking herself for missing the Boss Lady last time. Now, at last, she was seeing her in person. She really is a fairy! With a wife like this, who would even look at those other wildflowers and weeds out there? No, they don’t even count as wildflowers. They’re just plain weeds.
Lin Xi blinked her large eyes. She didn’t think she had ever met this person. Lin Xi had attended Xue Yang’s company dinner, where everyone had been present. She had a good memory for faces and remembered everyone who was there, but this girl was definitely not one of them.
"At the last dinner, I was busy with something outside," Sun Yufei explained. "By the time I got there, you and the boss had already left. Boss Lady, I finally get to see you in the flesh! You’re so beautiful, just like a doll! No, you’re even prettier than a doll. And you and the boss are such a perfect match." Sun Yufei’s eyes sparkled as if she had discovered a precious treasure.
"Thank you," Lin Xi replied with a smile. "Did you need something?"
Sun Yufei clasped her hands in front of her chest, her face full of anticipation. "Boss Lady, could I take a photo with you?"
"Huh?" Lin Xi was a little stunned. This girl came rushing over so frantically just to get a picture with me? She’s actually kind of cute.
At first, Zhong Hailan had worried Sun Yufei might be one of her son’s flings and that Lin Xi would be upset. But now, it seemed this young woman was a very nice girl.
"Is that okay?" Sun Yufei asked again, her eyes wide with hope.
"Of course."
Sun Yufei immediately whipped out her phone, glanced around, and asked Si Wen to take the picture for them. "Excuse me, miss, could you please help us?"
"Sure thing." Si Wen took the phone and snapped a photo of them.
Afterward, Sun Yufei stared at the picture of herself with Lin Xi, so happy she felt like she could fly. "I finally got a photo with the Boss Lady! Thank you so much, Boss Lady! I have to get back to work now. Goodbye, Uncle and Auntie! Let’s chat when we have time."
"Alright, dear. Run along, but be careful not to fall," Zhong Hailan called out, watching her dash off so energetically.
Sure enough, Sun Yufei promptly ran straight into someone at the doorway. After seeing who it was, she held up her phone and boasted, "Watch where you’re going! I got a photo with the Boss Lady. Aren’t you jealous?"
"What’s there to be jealous about?"
"Hmph! You’re just saying that because you can’t get a solo picture with her," Sun Yufei retorted. "I’m not talking to you anymore. I have a lot to do!"
"Then get going. It’s crazy busy out there, and you’re still running around. If things get messed up, I want to see how you’re going to explain yourself to the boss."
"I’m going back right now!" With that, Sun Yufei dove into the crowd and vanished from sight.
Cui Hao shook his head and entered the VIP lounge. "Hello, Uncle, Auntie. Hello, Boss Lady. And you are...?"
Cui Hao remembered seeing Si Wen once before, from a distance, but he didn’t know her name.
"Hello, my name is Si Wen."
"Si Wen, that’s a lovely name. Si..." Cui Hao’s eyes suddenly widened. Could it be Si Wen of the Si Family?
"Hello, senior," Si Wen said with a smile. "I’ll also be enrolling at Yannorth in September."
Cui Hao looked from Lin Xi to Si Wen and back again. Man, is the quality of this year’s first-years really this high? They’re pretty, wealthy, and to top it all off, they’re brilliant students. And most importantly, they all know Xue Yang! What kind of luck did that guy have? I need to find some for myself.
"Hello, junior!" Cui Hao puffed out his chest, making a guarantee. "Once school starts, if you need to know anything, just ask. Your senior will tell you everything he knows. If you run into any trouble, you can count on me too. I’d go through hell and high water for you!"
"Then thank you in advance, senior."
Hearing himself called "senior" repeatedly, Cui Hao almost wished school would start immediately. After chatting a bit more with Xue Yang’s parents, he also went to get busy.
"That young man is very nice," Zhong Hailan remarked with admiration.
"Auntie, he’s one of Xue Yang’s classmates and business partners from Yannorth."
"Oh, I see."
After the first day of business wrapped up, Xue Yang took several leaders out for another meal. By the time he got home, it was past midnight.
Si Wen had already returned to her hotel. With Xue Xing back in class, she was getting bored in Hui City. Besides, she couldn’t keep staying at Xue Yang’s home, forcing him to sleep at a friend’s place like he was homeless. So, she bought a plane ticket back to Yancheng for the next day.
Lin Xi offered to see her off, but she refused, telling her the hotel staff would arrange a car. She told Lin Xi to use the time to get some more rest instead.
"Then we’ll meet up again when we’re back in Yancheng."
"Definitely! We can go register for school together and have Brother Xue show us around the new campus," Si Wen said, never missing a chance to tease Lin Xi.
Sitting on the plane, Si Wen gazed down at the sprawling Huicheng Airport from high above. A wave of sadness washed over her, and her heart felt hollow. It was as if she had left a piece of herself behind.
She had just managed to compose herself when the plane began its descent.
