Chapter 708: Don’t Go!
Wu Liang was perhaps one of the few people in the Wu Family who actually cared about Wu Rouyun, but his destiny was exceedingly tragic. Yet this pitiable man, unable to even cling to life, was now being used as a hostage to threaten Wu Rouyun.
"Do as you say. Go and bring Wu Liang over immediately," Old Master Wu said, his eyes lighting up as he smiled.
At that moment, Wu Heng’s cell phone rang.
Seeing the number, Wu Heng shuddered and silenced everyone with a gesture. He then answered the call. "Sect Leader Shi Heilong, long time no see!"
It was the Sect Leader of the Black Evil Sect, Shi Heilong, on the other end of the line.
The viciousness Wu Heng usually showed his own people vanished completely, replaced by pure terror when facing this man.
"Cut the crap. Have you prepared everything I asked for? I’m heading to Thunder City for some business and will be passing through Sea City, so I’ll just pick up the things then," Shi Heilong said indifferently.
His tone, though nonchalant, carried a terrifying undercurrent of murderous intent that seemed to radiate through the phone itself. Wu Heng trembled uncontrollably, his forehead slick with cold sweat. The others around him didn’t dare utter a sound, all of them trembling with fear.
"Rest assured, everything is ready. Five billion Dragon Coins, plus one hundred men, have all been prepared," Wu Heng said, bowing and scraping. Even though the other party wasn’t physically present, he was still frightened out of his wits.
"Don’t forget, among those hundred men, there must be a direct descendant of your Wu Family. I don’t care if it’s a grandson by a son or a daughter, one must be included," Shi Heilong said coldly.
"Rest assured, it’s all been prepared. When will you arrive?" Wu Heng asked again.
"The day after tomorrow, at the latest," Shi Heilong responded.
"That’s great! We’ll be waiting for you in Sea City," Wu Heng said respectfully.
The person on the other end hung up, but for a long while, Wu Heng couldn’t shake off the fear from that call.
"Shi Heilong himself is coming?" Old Master Wu turned pale. "His visit bodes no good."
Shi Heilong wouldn’t make the trip for nothing. Since he’s coming personally, he will certainly raise his demands. It’s unknown how, exactly, but it definitely won’t be simple.
"We must deal with Yang Qi immediately. We have to get rid of that boy. It’s our only chance to be safe. Otherwise, we’re in trouble," Wu Heng said through gritted teeth.
Everyone trembled.
The Black Evil Sect was, for all intents and purposes, considered a demonic and heretical path in the Martial Arts World. They were known for daring to do anything, having no bottom line. As for Shi Heilong, he was even worse: a madman whose inhumanity and crimes were too numerous to list.
The Wu Family was already shameless and vicious enough, but compared to Shi Heilong, they were like a small-time shaman in the presence of a great one.
The Wu Family didn’t dare provoke the Black Evil Sect, not because the sect was overwhelmingly powerful. In terms of combat power, the Wu Family and the Black Evil Sect were more or less evenly matched. Even if the Black Evil Sect was stronger, it was only by a small margin. However, their methods were perverse and utterly mad. They had annihilated more than just one or two families. Even families stronger than them were harassed until they could no longer live a single day in peace.
They would carry out assassinations at any time, in any place, and under any circumstances, making it impossible for their targets to live normal lives. They were like the barefoot who have nothing to fear from the shod, because the Black Evil Sect didn’t even have a fixed sect stronghold. It was impossible to find them. It was only known that they were in the Western Territory, but their exact location there was a mystery.
This was the reason the Wu Family feared them.
"Hurry up and bring Wu Liang here! Then call Wu Rouyun. If she refuses to come back, chop off Wu Liang’s arm and show it to her!" Old Master Wu said viciously.
"Understood."
Wu Heng nodded and immediately went to find Wu Liang. He was covered in filth, his hair a disheveled mess—he looked just like a beggar.
"Take a photo. Have the butler take it to Wu Rouyun and tell her that if Yang Qi refuses to go to the Black Evil Sect, Wu Liang will die," Old Master Wu said, holding his nose.
"Mm."
Wu Heng nodded, washed Wu Liang’s face, took a photo, and sent it to Wu Rouyun’s phone.
For Wu Rouyun, the last two days had probably been the happiest of her life. She was carefree and free-spirited, doing whatever she wanted and eating whatever she craved. Yang Qi had taken her all over Thunder City. She had never been so happy in her entire life.
However, today, the butler arrived.
The Wu Family’s butler was likely the second strongest person in the family, after Old Master Wu himself. The old master’s purpose in sending him was clearly to threaten her.
"Miss, did you receive the photo?" the butler asked, looking at Wu Rouyun indifferently.
"You’re a bunch of beasts, lower than pigs and dogs! What does kinship mean to you? Is it truly worth less than dung?" Wu Rouyun had never imagined that the old master would use Wu Liang as a hostage. This old man was one of the few people in the Wu Family who had ever made her feel the warmth of kinship. She couldn’t just stand by and do nothing. But she couldn’t betray Yang Qi because of this, either.
The butler’s voice was calm. "Kinship? Miss, you are too naive. Does such a thing even exist in a great family? Great families only have interests, no so-called kinship. You are in this situation today precisely because you are so naive. Otherwise, you and Miss Wu Rouman would be the heads of the Wu Family by now. Who would dare bully you? In the end, you were the ones who refused to hand that child over to the Di Family, so you must pay the price."
"Aunt Yun, who is this man?"
Unbeknownst to them, Yang Qi had approached Wu Rouyun’s side and asked softly.
Wu Rouyun clamped her mouth shut, saying nothing. Her heart was in torment. On one side was her sister’s adopted son, her savior; on the other was an old man who had been very good to her. She couldn’t bear to abandon either of them.
"He is Wu Liang, Miss Rouyun’s second uncle and her benefactor," the butler said, looking at Yang Qi. "He is now being held hostage. If you do not go to the Black Evil Sect, he will die!"
"Heh, they truly have no shame," Yang Qi said, shaking his head. He looked at Wu Rouyun. "It’s alright, Aunt Yun. Don’t be conflicted. Since this old man is your benefactor, he is my benefactor as well. I’ll go with them."
"No! You’ll die if you go," Wu Rouyun said, shaking her head as tears streamed uncontrollably down her face.
She had only been happy for two days. Why must fate toy with her like this? Why!
"Don’t panic!" Yang Qi smiled. "No one can kill me."
Then, he whispered in her ear, "I’m the boss of the Star Shining Society. Trust me."
What!
Wu Rouyun was stunned. She had always imagined the boss of the Star Shining Society to be a dignified, middle-aged man, or perhaps even an old one. She never expected it to be Yang Qi, someone so young.
By her estimate, Yang Qi was only twenty-five. How could he be so powerful?
