My husband Can Cultivate

Chapter 707: No Holds Barred

Staring blankly at the shattered Blood Whip, Wu Rouyun’s eyes welled with tears.

This Blood Whip was a shadow that loomed over nearly every girl in the Wu Family. No one was spared from it, though it was usually just for one or two lashes. It was this very whip that seemed to suppress the personality of every Wu woman, making them meek, timid, and afraid—daring only to be the subservient women of a bygone era.

Only two girls from the Wu Family had ever rebelled. One was Wu Rouman, and the other was herself.

As a result, Wu Rouman endured the Twenty Blood Whips and was ultimately imprisoned by the Di Family in that sunless place. She, on the other hand, was lucky enough to be saved.

At that moment, the shackles that bound the women of the Wu Family seemed to shatter as well. The Blood Whip was authority! It was stubborn tradition! It was a cage! And now, it was broken!

Overcome with emotion, Wu Rouyun burst into tears.

The rest of the Wu Family, however, were on the verge of going insane. In their eyes, the Blood Whip represented authority and family rules. Its destruction meant their authority was gone. It meant someone was challenging the Wu Family.

"Is a broken whip really worth getting so worked up about?" Yang Qi’s voice rang out dismissively. "This thing is haunted by countless resentful souls. It was long past time for it to be destroyed. And those filthy rules of your Wu Family? They need to be shattered too. What century are we living in that you’re still clinging to this garbage!"

"Yang Qi, you bastard!"

The scene erupted into chaos.

"Do you have any idea what you’ve done? Destroying the Blood Whip means destroying the rules set down by our ancestors!"

"Are you insane?"

"This is a heinous crime!"

The men of the Wu Family roared in fury, baring their teeth as if they wanted to tear Yang Qi limb from limb.

"Vile wretch!" The Wu Family’s old master was so enraged he spat out a mouthful of blood. "Insubordination! This is utter insubordination! For a sin like yours, not even the Eighteenth Layer of Hell would be punishment enough!"

"Alright, alright, careful you don’t die of anger," Yang Qi said, waving a dismissive hand. "Is the court of King Yan run by your family? You tell me to go to hell, and I’m supposed to just go? How ridiculous."

"Kill him! Kill him for me! I refuse to see this traitorous filth live another second!" the old master roared, having completely lost his senses.

"Kill me? With your pathetic little Wu Family?" Yang Qi scoffed. "Be careful you don’t cause so much trouble that your own family gets wiped out instead."

"Father, calm down," Wu Heng advised. "Don’t forget, he’s the one meant to take the place of our direct kin at the Black Evil Sect. If he dies, we’ll be forced to send one of our own. He’s going to die sooner or later anyway, so please, calm yourself. Besides, once he goes to the Black Evil Sect, his death will be far more miserable."

Hearing this, the old master took a deep breath. "Boy, consider yourself lucky. You get to live a few more days. The people from the Black Evil Sect will be here soon. You will go with them when they arrive. That will be your punishment!"

"Don’t you worry, old dog Wu," Yang Qi laughed. "The one going to the Black Evil Sect certainly won’t be me. Your Wu Family has plenty of members. Just pick one of them. Or hey, how about you go yourself, old dog? You’re getting on in years anyway. If you die, you die. Think of it as making one last, outstanding contribution to the Wu Family."

"You! Do you really think I wouldn’t dare touch you?" the old master roared. "The Black Evil Sect doesn’t require their victims to be whole, anyway. I’ll cripple you today, lock you up, and simply wait for them to come and collect you!"

"Go on, give it a try," Yang Qi said with a smirk. "Let’s see what happens in Thunder City when someone breaks the legs of a Star Shining Society member."

"You!" The old master’s expression flickered with uncertainty. This is truly troublesome. This was Thunder City, not Sea City. There were too many things here that were beyond his control. It was infuriating.

"Aunt Yun, let’s go." Yang Qi took Wu Rouyun’s hand and started to walk out.

The members of the Wu Family moved to block their path, but none of them dared to make a move. It wasn’t Yang Qi they feared, but the Star Shining Society at his back. If the Star Shining Society got involved, they would be in serious trouble. They could only watch helplessly as Yang Qi and Wu Rouyun walked away.

Wu Heng’s expression was incredibly grim. Not only had Yang Qi rescued Wu Rouyun, but he had also crippled Wu Xing right in front of them. Yet, they were completely powerless to do anything about it. How utterly humiliating! This is just too humiliating!

"Father, what do we do now?" Wu Heng asked. "As long as Yang Qi stays in Thunder City, we can’t touch him. The boss of the Star Shining Society might have said this is our family’s private matter, but who knows if he’s just testing us? What are we supposed to do?"

"Unless... we lure that brat to Sea City!" someone suggested.

"And how would we do that?" the old master asked.

"Old Master, I’ve heard that Yang Qi has a friend in Sea City named Liao Fusheng, the owner of the Sea City Grand Hotel," the butler said. "If we can get control of Liao Fusheng, we can make that brat leave Thunder City and come to Sea City of his own accord."

"Liao Fusheng? Good," Old Master Wu said, his anxiety growing. "Return to Sea City at once and execute the plan. We’re running out of time."

If they couldn’t capture Yang Qi, their only option was to send one of their own direct line, which was the last thing they wanted. And so, after suffering a major setback in Thunder City, the members of the Wu Family returned to Sea City.

When they attempted to kidnap Liao Fusheng, however, they ran into a problem. The men they sent were crippled, and Liao Fusheng was rescued by members of the Tong Family. To make matters worse, the City Lord Mansion sent someone to deliver a stern warning: "Dare to touch Liao Fusheng, and the Wu Family should prepare for annihilation."

The Wu Family was terrified, left living in a state of constant fear. No one had ever imagined that Liao Fusheng had connections to both one of the Ten Great Families, the Tong Family, and the City Lord Mansion. This was a massive complication. No matter how powerful the Wu Family was, they would never dare to openly oppose the City Lord Mansion.

"It’s over." Old Master Wu heaved a long sigh. "Have Wu Jun prepare. It seems he’s the only one who can go now." If Yang Qi refused, their only choice was to send that good-for-nothing Wu Jun.

"No, that’s unacceptable!" Wu Heng shook his head. "There’s still another way."

"What way?" Old Master Wu asked.

"Father, have you forgotten?" Wu Heng said, his tone vile. "There’s someone in the family who was always very kind to Wu Rouyun. The one who had his legs broken and was left to die in the woodshed for secretly bringing her food. He lives like a dog every single day. If we use him to threaten Wu Rouyun, she’ll have to come back. And if she comes back, Yang Qi will be forced to obey. Then, we will have succeeded."

For the sake of his son, Wu Jun, he was truly willing to do anything, no matter how disgusting the method.

"You’re talking about that worthless Wu Liang, aren’t you?" Old Master Wu asked.

Wu Liang was Old Master Wu’s paternal cousin. He had once vied with Old Master Wu for the position of Family Head, but Old Master Wu had crippled his martial arts through devious means, causing him to fail. Later, for protecting Wu Rouyun and Wu Rouman, his legs were broken, leaving him a disabled man.
