Unrivaled Soldier in the City

Chapter 500 Heading North to Yanjing

After receiving this news, Lin Kuang’s father, Lin Guodong, remained calm, but admiration and joy shone in his pitch-black eyes.

You little rascal, a son truly worthy of me. Well done! Lin Guodong thought, almost uttering the words aloud.

With that thought, Lin Guodong stood up and left his room, heading straight for the patriarch’s quarters. This was a matter that needed to be reported to the old man.

In fact, it was not just the Gao and Lin Families who received the news; many of the major families in Yanjing had as well. Upon hearing this, some knew trouble was imminent. The two families were already at odds, and now that Lin Kuang had killed Gao Dongran, the matter had escalated significantly. This would undoubtedly accelerate the feud between them. At the same time, others realized it was time for them to pick a side. This was a confrontation that could likely not be avoided.

Of course, Lin Kuang did not care about the situation in Yanjing. He just needed to handle his own business. His father and grandfather were responsible for matters in Yanjing, so he did not need to worry. After all, as long as the patriarch was alive, no one would dare to make any overt moves.

After his morning exercises, Lin Kuang returned to his room to chat with the ladies and play with little Xinxin, creating a lively atmosphere.

During their meal, Lin Kuang’s cell phone rang.

Taking out his phone, Lin Kuang froze. It was a landline number, one he knew all too well—it was his grandfather’s private line.

Lin Kuang’s body trembled slightly, his hand shaking even more violently. He did not know if he should answer, did not know how to face that stern yet kind old man. Even so, Lin Kuang had already come to understand what had happened back then.

"Lin Kuang, what’s wrong?" Seeing his strange expression, Liu Shilin could not help but ask.

"N-nothing, I just need to take a call." Lin Kuang took a deep breath and answered the phone with a trembling hand.

"Hello, Grandpa," Lin Kuang said, the title heavy with familial affection.

"Kid, Grandpa misses you," the old man said on the other end. His voice was deep, yet filled with an unconcealable sense of longing.

They were just a few words, but they struck Lin Kuang like a physical blow, and his eyes instantly reddened.

"Grandpa, I’m sorry," Lin Kuang said, his eyes red, his tone filled with the remorse of a child apologizing to his parent after doing something wrong.

"You little rascal, what are you apologizing to me for? Come back and see me. Grandpa... might not have much time left," the old man said again, his robust voice now tinged with an undeniable weakness.

Hearing this, Lin Kuang’s body shook so violently he almost dropped his phone. "Grandpa, w-what did you say?" he asked, his voice cracking as he shot to his feet.

"What is there to say? Everyone has to die sometime. There’s no need to make a fuss. Just hurry back. Grandpa wants to see you one last time before he goes," the old man said with a laugh. His tone held no fear of death, only a calm acceptance. He had clearly made his peace with it. Besides, as he said, everyone has to die eventually. What was so scary about that?

Hearing these words from his grandfather, Lin Kuang could no longer hold back the tears that streamed down his face.

"Okay, Grandpa! Wait for me! I’m coming back right now!" Lin Kuang shouted into the phone.

"Alright, alright. I’m not going to drop dead this second. Don’t worry," the old man said kindly, a smile in his voice.

"Grandpa, you won’t die! Just wait for me!" Lin Kuang said again, his voice filled with urgency.

"Yes, I know. That’s all for now. Come back soon." With that, the old man hung up.

The call ended, leaving only the BEEP, BEEP, BEEP of the disconnected line. Hearing it, Lin Kuang’s tears flowed even more freely.

There’s a saying that a man does not shed tears lightly, but only because he has not been truly heartbroken. Right now, Lin Kuang was the very picture of that saying.

Seeing Lin Kuang cry, the women were stunned. It was the first time they had ever seen him like this. When had the Lin Kuang they knew ever cried? And like a little boy, at that. The women rushed to console him, urging him not to be sad and to stop crying.

Lin Kuang did not seem to hear them at all. He just stared blankly ahead. After a long moment, he finally stopped crying. He waved a hand dismissively and wiped the tears from his eyes.

"I’m fine, really. Don’t worry about me. I have to go to Yanjing for a while. I’m not sure when I’ll be back, so you all need to take care of yourselves. I’ll arrange for people to protect you." Looking at the worried women, Lin Kuang forced a smile, deeply touched.

"We’re fine... but are you really okay?" Liu Shilin asked, looking at him with concern.

"I’m really fine. You don’t need to worry about me," Lin Kuang said with a smile, trying to reassure them.

Reassured, the women let the matter drop. Lin Kuang changed his clothes, got in his car, and drove straight to East Sea Airport.

Watching him leave, the women felt a wave of melancholy, wondering when they would see him again.

The first thing Lin Kuang did after leaving was call Zhang Lianmei and ask her to send people to protect his women. Even though East Sea was much safer now, Lin Kuang still worried they could be harmed. Zhang Lianmei naturally agreed, though she felt a pang of envy for the women he cared so much about.

After his call with Zhang Lianmei, Lin Kuang drove straight to East Sea Airport. He was just in time for a flight, so he quickly bought a ticket, boarded the plane, and waited for takeoff.

A few moments later, the plane took off. Lin Kuang stared blankly out the window at the sky, his heart wracked with anxiety. Right then, he wished he could sprout wings and fly straight home to the grandfather who doted on him. But it was a pointless wish. Wishing was one thing, reality was another, and he certainly did not have wings.

The flight, which was less than two hours, felt like an eternity of agony for Lin Kuang. He did not even know how he managed to get through it. When the plane finally landed, Lin Kuang rushed to disembark.

In his hurry to get off the plane, he inevitably bumped into a man in front of him, causing the man to stumble and nearly fall.

Anxious, Lin Kuang glanced back, said a quick "sorry," and kept moving.

Normally, a simple apology would have been the end of it, especially since it was an accident. The young man, however, was not willing to let him off so easily.

"Damn it! Don’t you run! Get back here! You think a simple ’sorry’ is enough?" the young man shouted, then ordered the two men behind him to go after Lin Kuang.
