Supreme Dragon Lord

Chapter 390: Courting Favor!

Lei Changshan’s brow furrowed tightly. He turned his head and looked toward Long Chen, his gaze filled with gloom and confusion. He was completely baffled. What kind of love potion did this kid give Lei Shishi? How could he make her protect him so publicly?

It wasn’t just Lei Changshan who was perplexed; the other disciples of the Jinglei Sect present were also completely baffled. What is going on? Based on their understanding of Lei Shishi, she was an unattainable goddess. In front of everyone, she always maintained a cold and aloof demeanor, never interacting with any of the sect’s disciples.

Yet, who would have thought that this distant Young Master would now stand up for Long Chen so openly in front of a crowd? If they hadn’t seen it with their own eyes, no one would have believed it was real.

After a few seconds of silence, Lei Shishi continued speaking to Lei Changshan. "If you have an objection, you can wait until my father comes out of seclusion! At that time, you can report this to him, and we’ll see if he approves of your actions today!"

Hearing this, Lei Changshan’s brow wrinkled into a deep knot. How could I dare present such an opinion to the Sect Master? That would be like lifting a rock only to drop it on my own feet!

At this thought, Lei Changshan’s expression changed abruptly. He forced a smile and said, "Why bother the Sect Master over such a trivial matter? There’s absolutely no need! The Sect Master is in seclusion cultivating right now. It’s better that we don’t disturb him! Since you all disagree with this approach, we’ll just let it be. If you don’t see a problem with it, then I have no objections either."

Seeing that Lei Changshan had backed down and was no longer enforcing his so-called rules, Lei Shishi didn’t press the issue. "Since Elder Changshan has no objections, that’s for the best," she said indifferently.

With that, she turned to Long Chen. "Now that you’ve joined the Jinglei Sect and undergone the Divine Water tempering on Shenmo Mountain, you must cultivate even more diligently! Our Jinglei Sect does not shelter idlers! Don’t you dare disappoint me!"

"Thank you, Young Master, for resolving this matter for me." Long Chen smiled faintly. "Rest assured, I will definitely cultivate diligently, and I won’t let you down!"

"Very well! Remember your words."

Lei Shishi nodded slightly and then addressed the crowd. "You are all disciples of the Jinglei Sect. I hope you can coexist peacefully, helping one another improve, and not resort to shady tactics to harm each other. This is the Jinglei Sect, not some foul and corrupt place. Do you all understand?"

"Understood!" everyone hurriedly responded with a bow, not daring to utter a single word of dissent.

"Today’s welcoming ceremony is now concluded." After saying this, Lei Shishi leaped lightly into the air and departed under everyone’s watchful gaze.

Lei Changshan shot a dark look at Long Chen, while Lei Yujing took in the entire scene.

She walked over to Lei Changshan and reminded him softly, "I don’t know why you’re so persistent in targeting Long Chen. But you’d best not forget what the Young Master said. Long Chen is under her protection. If you dare to make a move against him again, I’m afraid you won’t be able to handle the consequences."

At her words, Lei Changshan’s face turned grim. He snorted, "My affairs are none of your concern. You should worry about yourself."

Resentment festered within him. He was the Second Elder of the Jinglei Sect, a man of high status and power, yet he had just been publicly humiliated by a mere girl. However, this wasn’t the time for him to lose his temper. In the end, he could only storm away, seething with resentment.

Aside from Lei Changshan’s boiling anger, Zhang Cangsong was also livid. Damn it! Absolutely damn it all! Such a perfect opportunity, and I still couldn’t teach that kid a lesson? The bastard! What kind of dogshit luck does this brat have?!

Zhang Cangsong cursed endlessly in his heart, the veins on his forehead bulging. He truly couldn’t understand how this guy could be so resilient, turning danger into safety time and time again. This time, he even had the Jinglei Sect’s Young Master personally backing him up. It was utterly baffling. He spun on his heel and left, unable to stand the sight of Long Chen swaggering around any longer.

Seeing that Lei Changshan was no longer making trouble, Long Xin and Tang Le both breathed a sigh of relief.

"That was close, but at least we’re all safe," Tang Le chuckled, looking at Long Chen. "Brother Long, I never thought you’d have the Young Master backing you the moment you joined the Jinglei Sect. That’s really something." As he spoke, Tang Le gave Long Chen a thumbs-up. "But speaking of which, how do you two know each other?"

Hearing this, Long Xin immediately turned to Long Chen as well. "I’m curious, too. Big brother, is there some kind of relationship between you and her?"

Seeing both of them staring at him intently—one pair of eyes alight with curiosity for gossip, the other sharp enough to kill—Long Chen felt a headache coming on. Yet, he knew that if he didn’t say anything, Long Xin would surely pester him endlessly.

He cleared his throat twice before replying, "Ahem, don’t get the wrong idea. She’s the Young Master, and I’m just a new disciple. What kind of relationship could there be between us? You two have wild imaginations. Don’t go around spouting nonsense that could lead to misunderstandings. I only met her once by chance on Shenmo Mountain. Before you all came out, I was wandering around and just happened to run into her."

"She stood up for you because of a single chance encounter?" Tang Le asked, clearly enjoying the drama. "Are you sure nothing else happened between you two? Otherwise, why would she support you so strongly?"

Long Xin immediately echoed his question, "Yeah, did something happen between you two?"

Long Chen was speechless. He shot a glance at Tang Le. "You just had to ask the most questions, didn’t you?"

Tang Le snickered and took an unconscious step back.

"Big brother, you still haven’t answered my question!" Long Xin continued to stare intently at him.

Seeing her determination to get to the bottom of things, Long Chen could only sigh. "Of course nothing happened. When I met her on Shenmo Mountain, we just chatted and got along well. As for why she helped me, isn’t it obvious? She must have recognized my exceptional talent and realized I’m a genius worth cultivating for the Jinglei Sect. If I were to be driven away, it would be a tremendous loss for the sect. You don’t really think everyone in the Jinglei Sect is as idiotic as that old ghost, do you?"

His answer was vague, but it was also partially true. Of course, I can’t tell them that I saw her entire delicate figure in the Thunder Pool. If I did, forget protecting me, she’d probably be the first one to try and kill me!

After listening to his explanation, Long Xin nodded, choosing to believe him without any more questions. She immediately hugged him tightly. "Big brother, I’ve told you before that I want to marry you. In this life, I won’t marry anyone else."

Long Chen gently patted her head. Before he could speak, a group of Jinglei Sect disciples approached, sheepish smiles on their faces. In an instant, he was surrounded.

"Brother Long! If you ever have any problems in the Jinglei Sect, just ask me for help!"

"You can find me too! I’m at your beck and call; there’s nothing I can’t solve!"

"Brother Long, you’re new here. If you have time, let me treat you to a good meal!"

...

After learning of Long Chen’s apparently special relationship with Lei Shishi, the Jinglei Sect disciples all rushed to curry favor with him.

"Hmph. He’s just a weakling who relies on a woman’s support," Han Zongwei scoffed with disdain. He turned around and barked, "We’re leaving!"

But after taking two steps, he realized his followers weren’t moving. "Hmm?" He turned back to them. "Aren’t you leaving? What are you standing here for?"

One of the men laughed awkwardly. "Brother Han, I still have some things to take care of. You go on ahead."

Another chimed in, "Me too, I’ve got some matters to attend to."

A third added, "I’ll stay and help them out."

...

Han Zongwei shot them a glance. They just continued to smile sheepishly. Without another word, he turned and left.

Once Han Zongwei was gone, the men exchanged a smile. They immediately turned and hurried toward Long Chen, joining the crowd trying to flatter him.

Han Zongwei doubled back a moment later. When he saw that even his own lackeys had run over to ingratiate themselves with Long Chen, his face turned livid.
