Chapter 128: Real Might
Klein stood frozen as Midas’s trolls marched forward. They made way, allowing the Pistol Squad to jump forward.
Dozens of shots were fired toward Memphis’s army.
Multiple men were hit straight on and killed instantly. Their bodies fell to the floor like ragdolls.
"On guard!" The commander at the front of the human army yelled as all the soldiers placed their shields in front of them.
"Looks like we have no choice but to fight! Enter turtle formation!" The commander shouted as all the soldiers huddled together.
Their shields formed an outer barrier, and the center soldiers created a roof above to mimic a real, round turtle shell made of golden shields.
The head of the turtle was a group of spears that lunged forward.
"Screw it!" Klein finally broke free from his silence, releasing his own army from his ring.
Dozens of stone monsters began appearing on the battlefield around him.
Some were giant, reaching over 15ft (4.6m) in height. These ones carried massive boulders atop their shoulders and resembled stone golems.
Others were smaller and skinnier, able to move fast and sharp.
Some were the same size as Klein himself, carrying small daggers.
This stone army quickly protected Memphis’s arsenal within, creating a frontal barrier.
The pistol squad was helpless, their blades simply clanging off the boulder-bodied beasts.
"My army is no ordinary group! These beasts are from my own planet! I cultivated and tamed them before bringing them to Fell-Terra for this competition!" Klein yelled, laughing with excitement.
’Memphis was horribly scared after seeing this guy’s army, but that’s because he knows the creatures of this land much better. He prided himself on being able to know the characteristics of people and things just by a glance. For this skill, he forced himself to learn as much information about Fell-Terra as possible. He read all the books that he could ever since landing on Fell-Terra, studying all of the creatures and myths, obsessed with becoming the one to obtain the throne... and without warning, he was butchered like a pig. He may be smart, but he may have also underestimated my army’s ability! With both of our forces, Memphis... maybe we could have beaten him after all!’ Klein thought to himself, more optimistic now.
"So that means... other planets know of these games that happen every century? Other planets prepare for it!? Just what in the world is the backstory of these games... It intrigues me." Midas said, amazed by this fact.
He once thought it was only a crazy ordeal performed by omniscient Gods. But the more he thought about it, these Gods seemed to be less divine and more power-based.
They didn’t seem transcendental and all-powerful... but instead, like entities of great power on their own.
’I guess it would make sense. After all, the most popular idea of God on earth is an all-powerful being. However, the system itself referred to them as ’Primordial Beings’ originally. These God’s may be more similar to the Greek pantheon, the Gods within the religion in South Asia, or in Norse mythology. Most of the Gods in these beliefs are less omnipotent, and more so have control over one type of reality, whether it be an element or concept.’ Midas thought to himself.
’Anyways... what I wanted was for Klein to show his army. That’s why I only allowed the Pistol Squad to move forward. I want to assess the power of as many players as I can. But now, it’s time to end this.’ He said to himself.
"Go." He raised his hand.
Klein’s eyes widened with horror as the trolls behind Midas began storming forward.
*BOOM BOOM BOOM*
The earth itself shook with their footsteps as they shoulder-thrust into the stone army.
The boulder golems were broken apart from the initial impact. The stone that made their heads was immediately disconnected from the boulder that made their bodies, turned to nothing but a pile of rubble on the ground.
Clubs and hammers swung left and right, obliterating the stone army before any beast could even make a move.
Mosquitos swooped down, drilling through the turtle formation of Memphis’s army and discombobulating it.
"Switch ammo!" Yemo shouted as blade bullets were replaced with blunt-headed tips.
The bullets encased with Blood Essence powder combusted and exploded the stone golems apart.
The human army stood no chance either, their shields being blown to bits.
Finally, the orcs stormed in for the finish. They swung their cleavers and hooks, creating a blood-bath across the grounds.
Midas stood back and simply smiled with his hands crossed.
’Seeing the might and brutality of my army gives me a good gauge of my own power. It makes me feel... good.’ He thought, his smile growing as he stared at Klein.
The stubby creature was already out of the picture, making a beeline for the trees.
He was over a hundred feet away from the fight, but he wasn’t going to escape...
Midas glanced up at Bzzrt, and the king mosquito knew what to do without even hearing a word.
He dove down from the sky and turned into a drill. A red forcefield of air formed around him as he dove down, smashing directly into the stubby player and tearing through him and into the ground.
The player was killed instantly as Bzzrt dove into the ground like a fish into water before appearing out of the ground a few feet away.
Midas smiled at Bzzrt. The mosquito also acknowledged this, feeling accomplished.
Just then, however, Midas’s smile faded.
He felt an odd vibration ripple across the ground.
’Huh?’ He raised a brow, ’This reverberation... it isn’t coming from this battle. No... It’s much larger... much more deliberate.’ His head slowly turned to face toward the massive lake beside him.
"Oh... I see." He said, walking toward the edge of the shoreline, "So you finally decided to show yourself as well, huh, zone beast!"
As soon as Midas shouted these words into the air, a giant Water Drake flew out of the surface of the water and held its head high in the air.
"W-woah! It’s another water drake!" Midas muttered under his breath. "And it also seems to be fully grown, by the looks of it... Yet, it is less than one-third of the size of Sergalas." He said, slightly unimpressed.
