Chapter 264: The Spider Mother, Destruction Cannon
While dozens of [Spiders of Darkness] rushed toward the group from every direction, the chamber quickly turned into a battlefield where there was no room for hesitation.
And at the very front of it all stood Godrick, Alicar, and Violet, forming a solid wall that none of the creatures could break through no matter how many of them came crawling out of the tunnels.
Smash!
Every punch Godrick threw carried enough force to shatter bone and crush flesh in a single hit.
His fists were glowing with a dense aura as he slammed them into the spiders one after the other without even slowing down.
And with each kill, that wide, almost unhinged grin on his face only grew larger, as if he was enjoying every second of it far more than he should have.
It didn’t even look like he cared about the plan, nor about protecting anyone in particular, as he simply stood there and destroyed anything that dared to get close, turning the frontline into a pile of broken bodies and twitching limbs within seconds.
Behind him, Alicar moved with precision, his bow already drawn as golden light gathered around the arrows he kept firing without pause.
Each shot was perfectly aimed as it pierced through spiders mid-charge, some of them dying before they could even fully emerge from the dark tunnels that surrounded the chamber.
Swoosh! Swoosh!
Arrow after arrow left his bow, so fast and so consistent that it almost didn’t make sense.
Because no matter how many he fired, there was never any sign of him running out, as if his supply was endless, and Leon couldn’t help but notice that detail.
Archers needed arrows, that much was obvious, and in a place like this, running out of them would mean death.
Yet Alicar didn’t seem concerned in the slightest, which meant there was something else at play, either a skill or some kind of ability that allowed him to create them endlessly.
Though even a skill that created arrow would require an absurd amount of mana to sustain.
And yet, he kept firing without slowing down, his expression calm, focused, and completely in control.
In the center of it all stood Violet, and unlike the others, she didn’t stay behind or at the front, instead positioning herself right where the chaos was the thickest.
Spiders came from every direction at once, surrounding her entirely. But it didn’t matter.
Slash!
Her rapier moved with blinding speed, piercing through one spider before she twisted her body and used her tail to crush another, her movements clean and efficient as she dealt with everything around her without letting a single one slip past.
There was no panic in her expression, just pure control as she maintained her position, holding the center while waiting for the plan to reach its final stage.
Leon, on the other hand, stood slightly behind, watching everything unfold as he tried to find an opening.
He raised his staff a few times, launching spells here and there, fireballs, lightning, anything he could manage, aiming to at least kill a few spiders in the chaos.
But compared to the others, it barely made a difference. And he knew it.
Since the start of this expedition, he hadn’t done anything major, and because of that, he had missed out on a ridiculous amount of potential drops, something that normally would have bothered him a lot more.
But right now, that wasn’t the main issue. The real problem was something else entirely.
’I can’t afford to miss this one,’ Leon thought, his gaze shifting toward the massive figure at the back of the chamber. The [Mother].
If Oasis’ plan worked perfectly, then the [Destruction Cannon] would deal the finishing blow.
And if that happened, Leon wouldn’t get the kill.
And if he didn’t get the kill... then he wouldn’t get the drop.
That alone made his expression tighten slightly.
Without wasting more time, Leon turned his focus fully toward the massive spider resting at the back and activated his skill.
---
[Spider Mother (Zone Boss)]
[Level: 75]
[Exclusive Talent: Darkness Birther (SS-Level), Forsaken (S-Level)]
[Talent: Queen of Darkness (S-Level)]
[Combat Power: 1,900,000]
[Details: Mother of all the spiders of the forsaken city, loves her children, and one of the main reasons it is so dangerous, she is the one fueling darkness to the rest of the spiders.]
---
"Pretty strong," Leon muttered under his breath, his eyes narrowing slightly as he processed the information.
Strong, yes. But not unbeatable.
At least, not in the same way as the [Forsaken General].
In his mind, there was no comparison.
The three guardians of the city, the [Forsaken General], the [Forsaken Minotaur], and whatever the third one was, stood at a completely different level, far above everything else in this place.
Even the [Mother], despite her overwhelming presence and the endless army she controlled, wouldn’t be able to stand against them in a direct fight.
What made her dangerous wasn’t her alone.
It was the numbers. The endless swarm.
The fact that she could keep producing more and more spiders if given enough time.
That was her true strength.
The general would need the entirety of the [Forsaken Legion] to attempt the attack, and these sacrifices weren’t something he was willing to do, though Leon still believed he would win at the end.
But at that moment, the atmosphere in the chamber shifted.
The energy gathering at the barrel of the [Destruction Cannon] reached its peak, the air itself trembling as the condensed power inside it became impossible to ignore.
Even the spiders hesitated.
Some of them turned their heads toward it, their movements slowing for just a brief moment, as if instinctively recognizing the danger.
Leon glanced at Oasis.
Her blue face and scales had gone pale, her breathing uneven as she struggled to remain standing, her entire body clearly pushed to its limits just from powering the weapon.
It wasn’t something she could use casually. This was everything she had.
At the same time, the [Spider Mother] began to move. Slowly.
Her massive body shifted, her legs pressing against the ground as she started to rise, and then, her eyes opened.
Sixteen crimson eyes, glowing in the darkness, all focusing forward as awareness returned to her.
And right then—
"NOW!" Violet shouted, her voice cutting through the chaos like a blade.
BOOM!
Oasis pulled the lever.
The cannon roared to life, releasing everything it had been charging in a single instant as a massive sphere of condensed energy shot forward, so powerful that the very barrel that launched it couldn’t withstand the force and exploded apart.
"...H-Hah... I’ll have to f-fix that too..." Oasis let out weakly, a faint, exhausted smile on her face before her body nearly gave out.
But it didn’t matter. The attack had been fired.
The sphere tore through the battlefield, unstoppable, obliterating everything in its path as dozens of spiders tried to intercept it, their bodies instantly disintegrating upon contact, their defenses meaningless in front of that level of power.
Nothing slowed it down. Nothing stopped it.
And then, it reached the [Spider Mother].
She had only just fully risen, her massive form barely steady as all sixteen of her eyes locked onto the incoming attack.
"Krkrk...?"
BOOOOOOM!
