Leveling Up by Defiling Milfs

Chapter 240 - 240: Ch240: The Real Hunt Begins

"There are many assassin guilds throughout the kingdom, and I have no idea where their hideouts are," Jacob said, his voice carrying a note of frustration.

Zero gave a slow nod.

"Hmm… you're right. From what I remember, they never used obvious places as hideouts. They preferred ordinary-looking houses." Zero gestured toward a modest building across the street. "See that house? The Knife Guild could be operating from a place just like that. Who knows?"

A faint smile tugged at the corner of Daniel's lips as his eyes followed Zero's gesture. Of all the houses lining the street, Zero had unknowingly pointed directly at the Knife Guild's hideout.

Daniel's eyes lingered on the house for another moment.

But before he could say anything—

"Aaaah! Someone, help!"

A woman's terrified scream tore through the bustling street.

Heads snapped toward the sound.

Merchants stopped mid-shout. Conversations broke off one after another as people turned toward the commotion.

Within seconds, the lively street fell into a brief, uneasy silence before hurried footsteps and anxious murmurs began spreading through the crowd.

Zero, Jacob, and Daniel hurried toward the commotion. But just as Daniel was about to enter the small gathering, something caught his eye.

A man slipped past the edge of the crowd, wearing a worn green tunic with a satchel slung over his shoulder.

What made Daniel stop was the faint red glow emanating from the skull in the man's hand he caught only a glimpse of it before the stranger hurriedly slipped the skull into his satchel.

What the…?

Daniel rubbed his eyes and looked again.

The man had vanished into the crowd.

Despite losing sight of him, Daniel pushed forward in the direction the stranger had gone, weaving through the people as his eyes scanned every face ahead.

The green tunic.

The satchel.

Then, while parting through the crowd, Daniel caught sight of the man for a brief moment and immediately activated his ability.

"Status."

——————

A hand suddenly landed on Daniel's right shoulder.

"Daniel, where are you going?" Zero asked, his voice laced with confusion.

"It's Klaus. I saw him. He's over there!" Daniel said, pointing toward the crowd.

Zero's expression changed instantly.

"Klaus? Klaus!"

Without wasting another second, he hurried after Daniel.

At the same time, the man in the green tunic quickened his pace, as he had sensed the two men approaching and was already slipping deeper into the crowd, keeping his satchel close to his side.

Meanwhile, Jacob was left behind, staring blankly at the people.

"Where did they go?" he wondered, turning his head from side to side as he searched for them.

*Thud-Thud-Thud-Thud*

*Thud-Thud-Thud-Thud*

Their footsteps pounded against the stone-paved street, echoing between the buildings. Even from behind, Zero wasn't entirely convinced the fleeing man was Klaus.

He remembered Klaus's appearance, but this man's figure seemed slightly different. Still, the way the stranger kept sprinting instead of stopping only deepened Zero's suspicion.

Neither Daniel nor Zero dared to use their powers.

Not here.

Not with ordinary citizens packed around them.

Using elemental abilities in public against civilians was strictly prohibited, and anyone caught violating that rule could face severe punishment. Every elemental user in the kingdom knew better than to break it openly.

Suddenly, the man in the green tunic veered sharply left, disappearing into a narrow passage between two houses.

Daniel and Zero followed without hesitation.

The chase continued through the cramped alley, as they pursued the fleeing figure like a pair of hunting hounds chasing their prey.

But what none of them realized was that they weren't alone.

From the rooftop of a tall building nearby, Valmond stood motionless. His eyes narrowed as he watched Daniel sprint after the man in green.

Across the street, Sherlon sat beside a food stall, a half-eaten meal forgotten in front of him. The moment he spotted Daniel rushing past, his hand froze halfway to his mouth.

His eyes followed Daniel for a brief moment.

Then he abruptly pushed himself to his feet.

Instead of following directly, Sherlon slipped through the side streets, moving parallel to the chase.

"He doesn't look like Klaus, Daniel. Are you sure?" Zero shouted, his voice echoing through the narrow passage.

"It's him! Trust me!" Daniel shouted back without slowing.

The distance between them and the fleeing man rapidly shrank.

Daniel stretched out his hand, his fingers were just inches away from the man's satchel.

He was about to grab it—

*CRACK!*

The ground erupted.

Jagged spikes of earth shot upward like enormous bamboo shoots, tearing through the stone path and thrusting straight toward their faces.

Daniel's eyes widened.

"Shit!"

He twisted his body and threw himself sideways.

Zero reacted at the same instant, leaping away from the rising spikes.

*Whoosh!*

One of the razor-sharp tips grazed Daniel's neck, leaving behind a thin line of blood — not severe, but deep enough to sting.

Daniel landed hard, one hand touching the ground as he immediately looked toward the fleeing man.

Zero reached down and offered him a hand, pulling him back to his feet.

But Daniel didn't wait.

*BZZT!*

A bolt of lightning shot from his palm, streaking through the street like a flash of blue-white light.

*Boom!*

The man staggered forward, his body jerking from the impact, his sprint faltered for a brief moment, and speed dropping noticeably.

But he didn't fall.

Instead, he gritted his teeth and forced his legs forward, continuing to run.

The sudden burst of lightning sent the nearby royal guards into a frenzy.

"Elemental attack!"

"Call for backup!!"

Panic rippled through the surrounding crowd.

People screamed and scattered in every direction, scrambling away from the street as though someone had kicked apart an anthill.

Merchants ducked behind their stalls or lowered their heads, trying to stay out of the chaos. Carts were left in the middle of the road, their wheels still rattling, while pedestrians shoved past one another in a rush to get out of the way.

Even though Daniel's aim had been precise, the fleeing man had managed to withstand the attack.

"Are you all right?" Zero asked.
