Chapter 386: Three-Way Melee
Li Rui did not anticipate this; completing the goal of helping the Ghost Riders’ revenge actually earned him a Legendary Level skill.
Come to think of it, it’s reasonable. The difficulty of this event was no less than clearing a major loot production site, after all, assassinating the enemy leader amidst thousands of soldiers is not something that can be easily accomplished.
Now, even though he obtained a new skill, he still has to face a problem: he is still in enemy territory, surrounded by countless members of the Demon Race.
Moreover, the most crucial point is that he came with brothers, and now he’s alone. Except for Yuan Erliang who was the translator in his coat, all of the nearly hundred Ghost Rider warriors are gone.
Fortunately, Li Rui is very experienced in being alone. Seeing the mission accomplished, he didn’t hesitate for a moment and started running backward.
Another good aspect is that the Demon Race army was also in chaos at the moment.
Those who were slightly closer had already seen what just happened, feeling a complete void in their minds. After all, the King of Suiye’s coup, consolidation of the Royal Court, production of military supplies, and descent with the army were all carried out with thunderous means, relying on deep-seated prestige.
Now that the pacifying pillar is dead, the previously united highland tribes may fight amongst themselves again in a while, making them inevitably harbor different intentions, even if not immediately turning hostile, at least thinking about how to preserve their strength.
The foreigner appeared like a god descending from heaven; whoever wants to stop him can do so, but I won’t.
That’s what they all thought, so when Li Rui rushed backward, he encountered little resistance.
At this point, he activated the Shenxiao Thunderbolt Heart Scripture and simultaneously unleashed the newly acquired Legendary skill, Golden Spear and Horse.
The moment this skill was activated, the Divine Thunder surrounding him began to transform, converging into a golden image.
Li Rui widened his eyes.
"Is this... Qi forming into a Horse?!"
The surrounding Divine Thunder turned into a majestic horse, carrying him forward swiftly. Of course, this skill does not fuse but rather manifests another form; if one doesn’t know the Shenxiao Thunderbolt Heart Scripture, it would present in another state.
Golden Spear and Horse is inherently a legendary skill, accelerated by another legendary skill, creating the illusion of having thousands of troops when clearly, he is alone.
Before the Demon Race blocking the way could even touch him, they were hit by a gust due to his extreme speed.
The synergy of two legendary skills directly scattered the less cultivated demons, unable to approach him at all. When a demon general blocked the way, Li Rui picked up the Diamond Umbrella, not needing Thunder Shocking Earth, using mere physical attack to smash them into the ground.
He charged through as though entering an uninhabited territory, thousands of demons dared not stop him, allowing him to leave effortlessly.
....
Ulysses anticipated a fierce attack from Dragon Country at the rear, but did not expect such a drastic change at the front battlefield.
The King of Suiye from the Wind Slave Royal Court is not a top-level powerhouse, but is an extremely important mascot.
No matter how he calculated, he wouldn’t have anticipated someone single-handedly running to assassinate that member of the Demon Race.
Normally, deploying too many people would be detected at Howling Wind Mountain, while too few couldn’t get close.
The vein on his forehead throbbed: "What on earth is happening!"
The communications personnel recounted in detail how Li Rui led the Ghost Riders out of Howling Wind Mountain and ran off as if nothing happened.
It doesn’t matter to him; these matters have no relation to the Western Kingdoms, as the Wind Slave Royal Court’s demons couldn’t stop him, leaving them no choice.
Ulysses took a deep breath: "Quickly... contact that so-called king of the Demon Race, assist him in consolidating the remaining troops."
The so-called king he mentioned is the second in command of the Royal Court, far less esteemed than the King of Suiye, but ultimately a flag worthy of raising.
With the legitimate king dead today, only the backup plan can be enacted.
"What about the frontline?"
Ulysses responded coldly: "Too late, I will intervene personally."
He must do so; all the core experts have been drawn into the battle, deadlocked with Dragon Country and the Polar Alliance, the situation remains unclear, while Li Rui, unharmed, has left the Demon Race formation, surely heading for reinforcements.
The previously severely underestimated Foggy Evil Ghost holds the power to shift the scale of victory; if he doesn’t intervene personally, the situation might become very unfavorable.
After instructing how to handle decisions at the rear, Ulysses took a small squad and headed for the battlefield again.
Meanwhile, Li Rui was racing wildly.
He single-handedly traversed mountains according to the plan, retreating from Howling Wind Mountain to his own territory, then rushed straight into the defense node guarded by Director Huo.
"What’s the situation now, where’s Captain Huo?"
Upon entering, he found the place somewhat empty, seemingly deserted.
"Director Huo went to support the frontline."
One of the sentries replied, "The Polar Alliance’s troops ambushed nearby and used some means to evade detection, suddenly invading the battlefield."
"On the Western Kingdoms’ side, led by Hopkins with experts including Roger Simon, joined the fight. Seeing the dire situation, Director Huo personally led a team to support Director Cheng, heard the other two defense nodes also sent support."
Li Rui inquired: "What’s the command center’s stance?"
"No message yet, probably too late to reach us."
Although Cheng Wen already sent word for reinforcements at the rear, the messages can’t be delivered swiftly, and local commanders have decisive authority to act, most have dispatched support already.
Li Rui took a swig of Spirit Recovery Potion while clicking his tongue internally.
Though anticipated that the three sides would exploit the King of Suiye’s offensive, didn’t expect the Western Kingdoms to take such a gamble.
Intelligence suggests that they likely dispatched most of their top-level forces, a high-stakes gamble that if won would recover early losses, if lost would leave them flatlined.
Li Rui figured out the precise location of the battle, then ventured forth again.
He has decided, since the Western Kingdom’s commander named Ulysses likes gambling, he will ensure he gets rid of this gambling addiction nicely.
.....
On the main battlefield, Cheng Mingyue already started to slack.
Though she is also a key target for Dragon Country, clearly she lacks the renown of Vons, who should be paralleled with Guan Gui, and the surprisingly impressive Li Rui.
Therefore, upon the Polar Alliance’s involvement, the main fire did not target her, Hopkins had to exert full effort dealing with those Ice Storms.
But soon after, new changes arose as Roger Simon the savage joined the battlefield; upon appearance, relying on sheer robust physique, he brute-forced through Ice Storm, striking Vons.
Yet the latter possessing arcane powers had means of escape, only a sculpted Ice decoy got hit, he remained untouched.
Regardless, Simon’s presence freed most of Western Kingdoms’ forces, significantly uplifting Hopkins, refocusing aggression on Cheng Mingyue.
If not for Director Huo and others coming to aid, she might indeed have faced defeat.
The fierce melee among the three parties reached its peak, Western Kingdoms dispatched the most forces, bearing much firepower from the other two factions.
But Polar Alliance and Dragon Country didn’t coexist peacefully either, though comparatively less intense in confrontation.
Currently, Director Huo, under Cheng Mingyue’s blessing, just blocked Hopkins’ death ray, gasped slightly saying: "Maybe, we seize a chance to withdraw, letting them dogfight?"
"No rush, let’s hold on a bit longer, focusing on defense, key is not letting Western Kingdoms retreat, Li Rui still assassinating King of Suiye, success unknown."
The strategic objective has shifted; with so many experts present, the command will surely act, it’s more than simply forcing the Wind Slave Royal Court to change course.
Cheng Mingyue wouldn’t sell out Li Rui like this, thus enduring a dangerous position to keep the chaotic waters swirling until Li Rui returns.
Yet she didn’t know the person she aims to cover is rushing back quickly, about to reach the battlefield.
