Chapter 115: Neither Human Nor Demon
I’ve been sensing something.
His eyes narrowed.
There’s someone here
Not fully human not fully demon either.
Or maybe both.
That presence it’s strange.
He exhaled slowly.
I could track them down right now
But there’s no need.
They haven’t made a move.
And if they were truly hostile I would have known already.
I’ll deal with it when the time comes.
Knock. Knock.
Rowan snapped out of his thoughts and walked to the door.
He opened it.
Neville stood there.
"Hey, what’s up?" Neville said casually.
"Oh, it’s you. Come in," Rowan replied.
Neville stepped inside briefly.
"Hey, it’s time to go take a bath. Let’s go to the bathhouse our class time is done for today."
Rowan nodded.
"Give me a second."
He grabbed his towel, bathrobe, and soap.
Then he stepped out, locking the door behind him.
The two of them walked side by side down the hallway
They pushed open the large doors to the bathhouse locker room.
Inside, several male students were already changing.
Rowan and Neville did the same.
Rowan removed his clothes, wrapped a towel around his waist, and placed his robe neatly into his locker.
Then the two of them walked into the main bathing area.
Steam filled the air.
Rowan sat down, picked up a bowl, and poured water over his body, splashing it across his shoulders.
Neville sat behind him.
"Hey do you mind if I wash your back?" Neville asked.
Rowan paused briefly
Then nodded.
"Go ahead."
Neville began scrubbing his back.
"There’s something I’ve been meaning to ask you," Neville said.
Rowan remained calm.
"And what is that?"
Neville hesitated slightly.
"I’m sure others have wondered too but you’re a Sword Saint, just like me."
He tightened his grip slightly.
"But you’re not normal."
Rowan didn’t respond.
"If you don’t want to tell me, it’s fine," Neville added quickly. "But I just want to understand."
His voice lowered.
"Because I’m too weak."
Rowan exhaled quietly.
"You’re not weak," he said. "You’re just seeing things from the wrong perspective."
Neville stayed silent, listening.
"You’ve heard the history of Sword Saints, right?"
Neville nodded faintly.
Rowan continued.
"Hundreds of years ago, Sword Saints were among the strongest. Not above Sword Gods but close."
His tone remained steady.
"But then came a calamity."
"They failed to protect the noble family assigned to them."
Neville’s expression tightened.
"Other swordsmen even weaker ones protected their people, even if it cost them their lives."
"But the Sword Saints failed."
Rowan’s voice grew slightly colder.
"And because of that failure they chose death themselves. They cut off their own heads out of shame."
Silence hung between them.
"Since then, people started looking down on Sword Saints."
"Over time, fewer people trained seriously. The blessing kept getting passed down weaker and weaker with each generation."
Neville slowly stopped scrubbing.
"I see."
He looked down.
"I’ve heard parts of that before"
Then he looked at Rowan again.
"Is there a way for a Sword Saint to grow stronger?"
His eyes were filled with determination.
"If there is I want to know."
He hesitated again.
"And also your aura."
"Most Sword Saints have green aura but yours is blue."
"That’s not normal."
Rowan remained silent for a moment.
Then
"I don’t know," he said simply. "And I can’t answer that."
Neville’s shoulders dropped slightly.
"But," Rowan added, "I’ll tell you this."
Neville looked up again.
"If you prepare yourself properly you can reach the level of a Sword Lord in three months."
Neville froze.
"Seriously?"
Rowan nodded.
Neville clenched his fists.
"That sounds impossible"
Then a small smile appeared on his face.
"But if it’s possible I’ll take it."
Rowan gave a faint nod.
The two of them finished washing and poured water over themselves.
Then they walked over and stepped into the hot bath.
Steam rose around them.
The atmosphere was calm.
Some students were quietly talking.
Others simply relaxed.
A few were even reading books while soaking.
As the steam drifted through the bath
Someone was watching.
Rowan, who had been resting with his eyes closed, slowly opened one.
He heard footsteps.
Water splashed lightly as someone approached.
Daryl.
Rowan let out a quiet breath, clearly annoyed.
"Hey," Daryl said. "Don’t forget you and I still have a score to settle."
He glanced briefly at Neville
Then looked back at Rowan.
Rowan didn’t even move.
"What do you want?" he muttered. "I’m trying to relax here."
Daryl’s gaze sharpened.
"I have a question."
Rowan sighed.
"Make it quick."
Daryl stepped closer.
"You defeated the princess without releasing any aura."
Silence.
"There’s something strange about you. I’ve always known that."
His tone grew more intense.
"I’m a Sword God. She’s a Sword God."
"And I know her skills are more refined than mine. I would lose to her."
He narrowed his eyes.
"But you"
"You beat her without even using aura."
His voice dropped.
"That means even back then you could have defeated me the same way."
Rowan finally opened his eyes fully.
He looked at Daryl
Unbothered.
"Think whatever you want," he said calmly. "I don’t have time for pointless questions."
Daryl’s jaw tightened.
"You’re weaker than me because you don’t put in the effort I do. That’s all."
Rowan stood up.
"I’m leaving."
Without another word, he stepped out of the bath.
Neville followed shortly after, giving Daryl a quick glance before leaving.
Back in the locker room
Rowan dried his body and changed into his robe.
Neville did the same.
"That was relaxing," Rowan said. "I was planning to stay longer until he showed up."
Neville chuckled.
"Yeah even me asking you questions earlier felt annoying."
Rowan glanced at him.
"Yours were annoying too."
Neville laughed.
"Seriously?"
Then he added
"You seem calmer about Daryl now. He hasn’t bothered you much since your first encounter."
Rowan shrugged.
"Your father works under his father," Rowan said. "He used to push you around because of that."
Neville scratched his head.
"Well yeah. But after that day you confronted him, he hasn’t said anything to me since."
Rowan nodded slightly.
"I see."
