Chapter 81 - 81: CARNAL DESIRES
"Shit! I can't help you anymore. She is looking for the one helping her out. I thought I told you to pretend to be drugged!" Cory told me anxiously.
I laid there, listening to her regretting her decision of helping me. "Aren't you created from me, Cory?" I asked her.
She paused, then looked at me with her eyebrows furrowed in worry. She placed her arms under chest and looked away from me. "What are you trying to say, Captain?" she said and then turned her face toward me and stared at my face with her eyes. They showed a glimmer of hope.
"Exactly as I asked you. She did inform you that you are made from my DNA, right?"
"What?" she asked shocked.
That wasn't what I had expected. How did Marcus know he was made using my DNA? His team also knew but why doesn't Cory know? Do most of them in the facility even know?
These questions had only sidetracked me. I knew Dr. Dhalia's check up schedule and asked Cory to leave for her safety.
Later on, that same evening the doctor arrived as scheduled with her syringe in hand. "I would like to ask you a question?" I asked her. While she was by the sink washing her hands, the question I had asked caught her off-guard.
She left the syringe by the sink and walked up to me. "Well then, ask your question." She spoke. Her arms folded, her tied neatly and serious.
"Who was Marcus?"
"Marcus? That name... I haven't heard in a while. How do you know him?"
"I watched him die before me,"
"Oh! So, he did. I guess he was a failed experiment then."
"Failed experiment?"
She turned around and took a few steps away from me. "Precisely. Since he was on par with you, I deem him a failed experiment."
"What about the others? If he is a failed experiment, what about them?"
"Abnormalities. Due to my failure of reaching perfection, they resulted and honestly, I can't waste all of them. Maybe they may become useful."
"Is that how you see them? How much are you from the demons?"
She then spun around right after I said that. Quickly enraged she screamed, "Don't you dare compare me to those, those things! Do you think I could do what they have done! No! Unlike them I don't use the experiments for other purposes!"
"Is that so. I don't think they see it that way. They see like the demons, even more cruel than they. You are only saying that because they are not human. If it weren't the case, you would be as bad or even worse than them."
Her breathing became deep and intense; eyes had widened in rage and her composure diminished. She grabbed the nearest weapon she could get her hands on and came toward me.
The drug still had weakened me, and I could get my arms free to block her wild attack. With both her hands wrapping round the handle of the scalpel, she swung it down to my chest.
Using my body as a stress relief, she stabbed my chest repeatedly. The motion was haphazard. I was starting to feel the sensation of pain a bit more intensely than before.
Screaming with everyone swing, she was covered in my blood. She was panting heavily. She stopped, standing there the scalpel above her head. She lowered arms down and placed the weapon beside herself.
I was bleeding profusely, coughing out blood and choking on it. "Are you happy with the results you got?" she spoke slow and exhausted.
Tears streaking down her cheeks. "I didn't want this, but you forced my hand. I wanted you alive. Now I have to discard you. I have extracted enough blood from you, so I can get rid of you."
She walked to the sink, placed the bloody scalpel on the edge and turned the tap on. My vision became blurry. I was losing too much blood, and I was about to leave consciousness.
I looked at the ceiling while I choked on my own blood that filled my lungs. My hearts slowly pumping blood out. My brain was constantly trying to keep me alive.
Something was wrong, my power to heal was not active.
Moments later I succumbed to my wounds and drew my last breath.
It took a while for me to go out. I was conscious enough to witness her leave the room her expression neutral. She didn't feel a thing for me because I wasn't human per say. I just looked human enough for my nature to not be considered.
The darkness surrounded me once more. It was a calm I had appreciated in all my years. 'How I ended here is all by my hand. I had done so much wrong that it came back to bite me in the years.' I thought to myself. It was a false realization to make myself guilty for no reason.
A new land I witnessed. Could this be home from once I was banished. The flora flourished in the land, the sun shone bright and strong above the land. Breezes gentle enough to rustle trees blew; animals ate of the pasters, green and succulent.
The sky, a black abyss where light could not escape.
It was all I could see, then she came. Death met me once more. She sat beside me and looked into my eyes. "Another situation where you come back to me again," she spoke. She then sighed deeply.
"You can't speak at the moment. You are not dead nor are you alive, just at the brink. Your power is keeping you alive even though it isn't activating as rapidly as it should. The Dragon Moon flower had weakened you so much that your power wouldn't work as efficiently."
She took her eyes off me and stared at the vast open land. She looked at the souls.
The calm breeze whistled through the land. The grass flowing elegantly in the wind.
"How long have you been doing this?" she asked. "Five hundred or six hundred years? For now, you can rest before you go back to your reality,"
She moved closer to me and placed her hand on my chest. I closed my eyes.
