Chapter 296: To Hurl It Away
Althea quickly stepped in before the butler could answer.
“Mother, Gavriel already went to call them personally. They may take a little longer since we arrived with a guest, and they likely stopped for a brief conversation in the garden. He sent me ahead so no one would worry. We can begin dinner while waiting for them.”
“Oh, alright then,” the Queen Mother hummed in understanding.
Althea quickly took her seat.
She could only hope Gavriel would finish everything as quickly as possible. Still, she felt reassured knowing Prophet Elior was with him.
Though deep inside, she also couldn’t help missing the sight of her husband fighting within the spiritual realm. Somehow, she always found herself wanting to witness it.
Meanwhile, back at the garden, Gavriel gritted his teeth when Riela suddenly managed to claw at him.
“Can you really hurt me? You’re my brother. You’re supposed to protect me, not hurt me. Brother... please stop this already.”
Riela’s pleading voice echoed through the stillness of the night.
“Do not be deceived,” Prophet Elior reminded calmly while standing beside the still unconscious Lord Arturo. “You must learn to distinguish your sister’s true voice from the demon’s manipulation.”
Gavriel clenched his jaw tighter.
Somehow, this battle was far more difficult because he kept hesitating to hurt his own sister.
When he delivered Kael from a demon before, Kael had remained unconscious for days. At one point, they had even feared he might stay trapped in that state for much longer.
Riela had once fallen into a coma for weeks as well before because of Cain before she woke up only to lose her sanity, and the memory of that time continued replaying in Gavriel’s mind.
He never wanted to see his sister unconscious like that again.
“If you continue to hesitate, the demon will only strengthen its hold over her,” Elior explained solemnly. “And once that happens, removing it will become even harder. Demonic entities are possessive toward their prey, especially once they gain access and agreement from them.”
Gavriel closed his eyes briefly.
Then he moved.
The frosted sword of Lionel glowed within his grip like sharpened ice. With a flick of his wrist, the weapon transformed into a blazing bow and arrow wreathed in fiery light.
Without another moment of hesitation, Gavriel released the arrow straight toward the blackened heart of the demonic spirit hovering near Riela’s head.
“Do you really think you can take me out of your sister that easily?” the demon taunted with a smirk. “She’s smiling now and acting like her old self because of me. If I hadn’t been feeding on her misery, she would never have recovered this much.”
Its voice twisted into something darker as its form suddenly shifted.
Before, it had carried a distorted version of Riela’s appearance, but now it transformed into a horrifying creature with a grotesque half-human, half-goat face crowned with twisted horns.
“Her misery, pain, and trauma run far too deep for you to save her so easily,” it mocked in a guttural demonic voice.
“What a lie,” Gavriel hissed in annoyance.
He knew too well how cunning those evil spirits were. They would say and do anything just to remain attached to their host.
Then Riela suddenly lunged at him.
Gavriel quickly dodged, his expression darkening. One thing he had noticed about possession was how the demon amplified the host’s physical strength far beyond normal human limits.
Riela leaped toward him again from several feet away, her speed unnaturally fast.
Fortunately, Gavriel had been raised and trained as a warrior since childhood.
This time, he deliberately allowed Riela to strike him.
The moment she made contact, Gavriel seized the opportunity and grabbed hold of her tightly. Light suddenly surged around his bare hands as Xyriel’s energy strengthened him with divine force.
With a powerful pull, he forcibly ripped the demonic entity out of Riela’s body to hurl it away from her. But the demonic spirit had become deeply attached to Riela’s body.
“Don’t take me out of her,” it begged desperately. “Please... just let me stay inside her. I’ll remain quiet. I’ll even help her. I’ll make her smile again. I’ll help her move on and even strengthen her body. I can make her stronger if you allow me to stay.”
Its distorted voice turned frantic.
“Don’t you want her to become strong?”
The creature writhed violently as it clung to Riela.
“If you remove me, she’ll become sick! She’ll fall unconscious! And she won’t wake up anymore! Is that what you want?! The—”
“Enough,” Gavriel growled. “Xyriel and Lionel, help Dariel remove this nuisance.”
At once, the overwhelming force of his three angels surged through him. Divine energy flooded his hands, and with one powerful motion, Gavriel forcibly tore the demonic spirit completely out of Riela’s body and hurled it away from her.
He wasted no time.
Dariel’s fiery energy instantly formed into a blazing sword within his grasp, flames roaring around the blade as Gavriel swung it down in one swift strike, giving the demon no chance to speak again.
He was panting heavily, and moments later, he dropped to his knees on the ground. Gavriel felt as though a massive amount of energy had been drained from his body.
“You will need to rest, Your Majesty,” Prophet Elior reminded him gently as he helped him back to his feet. “Battles like this are especially exhausting when emotions are involved.”
Just then, Simon arrived in haste.
“I deeply apologize for the delay, Your Majesty. We came as quickly as we could after receiving the Queen’s signal.”
“It’s fine,” Gavriel replied, trying to steady his breathing. “You arrived just in time for the cleanup.”
He glanced toward the unconscious Riela and Lord Arturo before giving his orders.
“Get Riela and Lord Arturo settled into their assigned chambers in the manor. I’ll head inside now and join my wife. I’ll explain everything to the others.”
With that, Gavriel slowly composed himself before making his way back toward the manor.
Prophet Elior followed closely behind him, but before Gavriel could even enter the mansion, his steps suddenly faltered.
He swayed slightly before stopping altogether.
“Your Majesty,” Prophet Elior quickly called out as he moved to support him.
Gavriel turned his head faintly, but at that moment, his vision suddenly went completely black.
Then his body collapsed onto the ground.
