Chapter 800 - 782: Ambushed
The person woke up but could not ask any substantive questions because the other party had already gone insane.
Water Ghost looked somewhat disappointed; this was clearly a rare opportunity, but reality often turned out to be so dramatic. One thing could be confirmed: the other person’s mental state and appearance were not the issue, until a physician examined him and found his body covered in unimaginable scars.
The sores on his face were caused by certain fungi, his left arm useless, judging from the injury, it looked like severe frostbite. Strangely, the rest of his body didn’t have such injuries. As for the lower body’s organs, someone had deliberately castrated them—this was cruel punishment. Bearing so many scars and not dying, instead just going mad, was already a miracle.
Water Ghost’s expression was somewhat grave.
The localized nature of the opponent’s injuries indicated two possibilities: one was being used for some experimental research, the other was torture with ulterior motives. But either way, it meant the torturer was an incredibly brutal criminal.
Although he climbed his way up from the bottom, with blood on his hands, such inhumane scenarios were impossible due to the Order’s law.
Enemies mean death, that’s true, but even for the most extreme criminals, it’s no more than breaking the spine and hanging them at the city gates, never such slow torture and killing.
Water Ghost tagged this land as dangerous.
Because of the storm, they were off course, losing two-thirds of their companions. Although these warriors were still elite, less than two hundred remained.
No taking risks!
With just two hundred men, one couldn’t stir many waves in an unfamiliar environment; Water Ghost’s rationality told him not to contact the forces here.
Fortunately, he had already notified Order. The appearance of professionals made up for the lack of technology. He had a pair of twins with him, not capable of attack, but they possessed a powerful ability of psychic communication; no matter the distance, when one placed an idea in their mind, the other would feel it instantly.
The moment they landed, Water Ghost ordered them to send information to Order. Based on previous experiences, Order had already received the messages from here, and his task was to wait patiently.
"Poof!"
While Water Ghost was deep in thought, a spray of blood suddenly blossomed before his eyes. He saw the head of a warrior beside him fall to the ground; his expression showed no surprise or pain, maintaining the look from a second ago, while his body stood tall, blood gushing out like a fountain!
"Attack!"
Slightly surprised, Water Ghost roared out these two words.
Ironically, at that exact moment, Water Ghost’s voice became like the horn of death, and large-scale casualties began in his surroundings.
"My hand, oh God, my hand!" A warrior picked up his weapon, trying to aim at the enemy, but at that moment, his hands holding the gun were sliced off by a sharp blade, like being chopped by a horse-chopping saber; the wounds mirrored a clean break with one strike!
"Gurgle gurgle..." The professional seeing this scene was about to aid them when a gash appeared on his neck, tearing his trachea, allowing him only to make gurgling sounds. He tried to stop the blood with his hands, but blood still flowed fiercely through his fingers.
Others around suffered different degrees of attack; the enemy seemed to wield terrifying weaponry, often inflicting fatal wounds upon contact with the human body!
Water Ghost saw a young man cut in half at the waist; this was his nominal disciple. Disaster had taken most of his family, but fortunately, his mother survived. They clung to life, and the young man had even become a professional—a case of hardship turning to happiness. He didn’t distance himself due to Water Ghost’s appearance, serving him unquestioningly. In Water Ghost’s eyes, he was closer than family.
Water Ghost even considered grooming him to become a Captain. For a captain, this wasn’t particularly difficult, but this promising young man now lay on the ground. He didn’t want to die because, if he did, the psychological impact on his mother back at Order would be unimaginable.
But reality doesn’t always comply with one’s wishes. After struggling for a few minutes, he died anyway, becoming a cold corpse!
Nearly all are dead!
When setting sail, they were full of determination to find a land with survivors, but after great effort finding it, they faced this unbearable blow.
Out of hundreds of brothers, it’s unknown how many will survive!
Water Ghost tried to resist, but ironically, up till now, he hadn’t seen any trace of the enemies. They hid like ghosts around them.
This was a blatant massacre!
Water Ghost lowered his head. Even though filled with rage, he tried to keep himself calm—he understood that fear would greatly reduce his discernment.
"Tat-tat..."
Footsteps!
"On the left side!"
At the end of the day, Water Ghost was a Golden Tier power. He suddenly heard footsteps—faint, undetectable to ordinary people. At the same time, he drew his Order-made weapon, slashing with all his might as if to cleave a mountain.
"Splash!"
A crimson spray of blood burst into the air, followed by a figure over two meters tall falling to the ground.
The figure’s head was enormous, likely with high brain capacity, having thick hair and eyes resembling human eyes, but its face was quite different. Its mouth had sharp teeth, its exterior four tentacles, also with fangs.
Water Ghost gasped!
Monsters!
This was a monster uglier than beastmen. Water Ghost had participated in the previous beastman crusades. In that very battle, he broke through, successfully promoting himself as a Golden Tier warrior.
Order had outlined various dangers encountered during the apocalypse, one of which was due to the instability of the Dimension Wall, allowing many monsters from other worlds to arrive on human lands.
Invisibility.
Unbearably ugly appearance.
From any angle, it matched the characteristics of Dimensional Creatures.
Just like the beastman invasion, this land had also been tainted by monsters?!
Water Ghost was hesitating when a sharp pain emanated from his abdomen; his so-called defense was utterly ineffective against this punch.
Water Ghost’s consciousness slowed; he lay on the ground, watching as companion after companion fell. Before long, the void shimmered like rippling water, and thirty-plus [monsters] appeared where they stood.
One of the monsters stood over three meters tall, seemingly the leader. Water Ghost noticed bizarrely that its gaze was focused on him. Then, a more terrifying scene unfolded.
"He has potential, perhaps a suitable experimental subject."
"Begin the search, burn the corpses on the spot, bring all other survivors back to camp!"
Water Ghost’s consciousness had already slowed, and he heard only those two messages. But to him, his safety and the camp meant nothing compared to the fact that the monsters spoke human language.
Monsters?
Humans?
"What are they really?"
As Water Ghost thought of this, his neck was suddenly gripped, and at that moment, his consciousness was extinguished like fireworks, until his mind went blank...
