Chapter 312: Nerve wracking
The last seat was empty, a seat meant for Loki, but one that he had not occupied in a very, very long time.
"Greetings council of gods," Loki spoke, his voice clear and crisp like he wasn’t worried about what was to happen.
"Loki, you know why you have been summoned, do you not?" Odin spoke first. His voice was calm and steady, but his eyes betrayed his true feelings. He wanted so much to slam the head of his son into the ground so hard it would shatter the world that they stood on, but as much as he was his father, Loki was still a true god.
"I do, or I think I do," Loki said. He stepped forward with confident steps until he was at the center of the room, each god’s gaze shifted to him.
"I believe it is about the awakened known as Shadow, the one I wanted to take under my wing," Loki said casually, waving his hand around as he explained.
"I’m sure all of you have done a lot of research into the issue and this is more of a trial than anything else, but I’ll do well to answer whatever questions you have dug up for me, I’ll even tell the truth," he added with a smile plastered on his face.
"Tch," Thor clicked his tongue. He grabbed his hammer and raised it up, pointing it right at Loki.
"You have managed to upset a balance that took us ages to create and maintain. Your actions have allowed a very dangerous anomaly to come into being at a very crucial time of everything.
This is why you have never been useful for anything. You are selfish and only think about what benefits you," Thor said, evidently angry at his brother.
Loki looked at him with amusement written on his face. He placed his hands behind his back and took a few steps towards his brother.
"Do you hear yourself? Selfish? Do you really believe that beings like us have a moral compass?" he asked, then looked around, his eyes scanning every face there. His initial fear fading and his normal cocky attitude returned very fast.
"We are gods, no, true gods, beings that sit at the top of existence and live for all time, and yet we use weak races for our own benefits, using their very souls to power our advancements. Is morals really something we can worry about?
The only moral you have is when the action committed affects you," Loki said.
Thor gritted his teeth and rose to his feet in anger.
"Do not fight inside the council hall," Zeus’s voice thundered. He stared right at Thor. Thor frowned, but he sat back down and dropped Mjolnir on the ground.
Zeus then looked at Loki. He took a deep breath and then spoke, "We discovered that not only were you in connection to the anomaly, you were in connection with it from long ago.
It’s safe to say that you are one of the factors that fostered its creation and also its growth, and what we want to know is why you decided to create something unpredictable and allow it come into our world," Zeus asked.
Everyone looked at Loki, wanting to hear the explanation that he would give for the actions that he had done, and if there was a good reason behind it.
Loki stood for a while without saying anything, and then suddenly he smiled, ear to ear, in a way that was not possible with normal humans.
"Well there is indeed a reason, but it is something personal and not for all of you to know.
The best I can do in all honesty is to tell you to get ready for a shift that will absolutely change things from the normal status quo."
When they all heard that, it was as if a switch flipped in their heads, and anger overtook them. This was not random, but because Loki was not just any random god, he was born as the god of trickery and reality. Reality was a very, very dangerous ability.
Loki was also fated to create something that his father named Ragnarok, but in simple terms the end of an era, a war that would shatter everything, the apocalypse.
"LOKI!" Thor rose to his feet with a thunderous yell.
"You would really start this at a time when our universe is at war? Do you really wish to end everything in such a manner, and do you really believe we would allow you?"
Everyone rose to their feet as well. If it meant they had to kill Loki, they would right here and now and ensure that what he had planned would not happen.
Loki looked at each and every one of them and could not help but smile, "Ancient eldritch gods, covered with beautiful names to seem normal, that’s what all of you really are and you know it.
But over the years you all forgot how we were all born. We all had one characteristic that we could never break, chaos or order, and even as we evolved to be more than that, it still remained a core part of our existence.
I have simply refused to cover what I am made for, because the only way for me to become what I truly am meant to be, the master of all reality, I must do what needs to be done and Shadow is the key, even if he is an unstable key.
Before you all come at me, know that it’s worthless. I have already prepared hundreds of countermeasures and escape routes to escape even if you all come at me, so do not waste your strength."
After saying that, he turned and walked to the door. It opened and he left under the gaze of every god there.
The moment he stepped out and the door closed, he placed his back against it.
"Phew, that was nerve-wracking. If they had all come at me, I would have been in trouble."
