Chapter 211: Camp Cleanup Master
Screams and gunshots woke the students in the camp. Lin Ye slipped under the bed and left the room through the tunnel.
There were still some cultists left to deal with; he couldn't reveal himself yet.
Lin Ye moved through the camp via the tunnels, shooting cultists from various dark corners. With the Flesh Puppets, these cultists, who were at best slightly tougher than ordinary people, stood no chance of fighting back.
After all, he had the equivalent of a full map and auto-aim.
Hearing the screams and gunfire outside, the students hid inside their cabins, too terrified to come out. Some students caught sight of the killer wearing blood-stained work clothes and a blood-red smiling face mask prowling nearby. Remembering the rumors Lin Ye had mentioned during the evening gathering, they didn't even dare stay in their bedrooms, all hiding inside closets instead.
It didn't take long for Lin Ye to kill all the cultists who had broken into the camp. But he didn't relax; instead, he continued using their corpses to make more Bone Traps and Flesh Puppets.
"Boss, we found usable bodies!"
The two head students came running through the tunnel, each of their heads now attached to a small Flesh Puppet body.
"You can control the Flesh Puppets?"
Lin Ye asked curiously. "Yes, we can! Boss, can you make us bodies the size of a normal person?"
Head Student Number Two asked urgently.
"Sure. I made the smaller puppets for better concealment. I just need to add more flesh and blood to make life-sized Flesh Puppets."
Lin Ye quickly created two adult-sized Flesh Puppets. The two head students abandoned their smaller puppet bodies and jumped onto the necks of the larger ones.
"Help me bring all the corpses and weapons from above ground over here. Also, help me place traps and puppets."
Lin Ye didn't believe the Truth-Seeking Society had only sent this many people, nor did he think they would just give up. So he had to prepare enough traps before the next wave of enemies arrived.
"Got it, we're on it!"
Head Student Number One excitedly moved around in his new body. Although it wasn't very easy to use, it was still much better than just having tendrils.
……………………
"High Priest, gunshots were heard in the camp. Everyone who went in has lost contact."
A cultist reported the situation to the High Priest.
"Useless fools! Take all the remaining people to the camp! I don't care about the others, but the two main sacrificial offerings must be taken alive!"
The High Priest entered the ruins alone. The others received the order and charged towards the Visit Camp together.
………………………
Lin Ye had just finished setting the traps when he heard chaotic footsteps outside the camp.
'They're in quite a hurry.'
Lin Ye quickly retreated underground. Unless the enemy was stupid, they wouldn't split up this time.
If the enemy moved together, Lin Ye wouldn't be able to take potshots from the shadows. After all, he was alone. Once his position was exposed, they could concentrate their fire on him.
Fortunately, he still had the Bone Traps and the two somewhat reliable head students.
A large number of cultists rushed into the camp. Lin Ye didn't fire immediately, instead using the Flesh Puppets to pinpoint their locations.
Soon, cultists began stepping on the Bone Traps. Those who triggered the traps wailed as they fell to the ground, but this didn't slow down the advance of the remaining cultists. Several burly cultists took the lead, triggering one Bone Trap after another.
"Look carefully at the ground! Places with traps are obviously different from the rest. Just don't step on— Ah! My leg!"
Before he could finish speaking, that cultist stepped on a trap.
There were now two types of traps in the camp: ones laid by the two head students, and ones laid by Lin Ye.
The reason he had tasked the two students with setting traps was that he didn't have enough time to set them all himself. Furthermore, the traps they set were also part of the overall scheme. If someone tried to avoid areas with abnormal soil coloration, they were especially likely to step on the traps Lin Ye had set.
Lin Ye had anticipated that the enemy might send the particularly tough cultists to scout ahead, which was why he arranged the traps this way.
As a result, the enemy now lost a cultist screaming and clutching their leg every few steps.
The cultists slowed their advance, starting to step precisely in the footprints of those in front. They weren't insane; they felt fear in this situation too. But thinking of the consequences of the ritual failing, they could only grit their teeth and press forward.
Their target was in the cabin located towards the inner part of the camp's center, so they had no choice but to push deep into the camp.
Until they found their target, they couldn't just randomly spray gunfire towards the cabins in that direction.
Soon, the cultists had inched their way to the vicinity of the central campfire. The target was just ahead; they were almost there.
Bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang bang...
Gunfire erupted from two cabins behind them. The cultists reacted quickly, turning around and unleashing a barrage of bullets at those two cabins.
But they failed to notice that, amidst the chaos, faint gunshots also came from another direction.
Lin Ye was taking potshots from a cabin behind them, primarily targeting the especially tough cultists. It basically took two shots to kill one cultist.
The plan was simple. The battlefield was the area around the central campfire. The two head students used Flesh Puppets to fire from two separate cabins, drawing the cultists' attention. Lin Ye took shots from the dark from the cabin opposite them.
The three cabins formed a triangle. While the cultists were focused on shooting at the rear cabins, the two head students had already escaped, leaving behind only the Flesh Puppets with their fingers fixed on the triggers.
Lin Ye had made several simple silencers using plastic tubes and rubber sheets. Under the cover of the intense gunfight, he quickly killed all the particularly tough cultists, then took out a few who seemed to be minor leaders before retreating back into the tunnels.
By the time the cultists realized more than half their comrades were dead around them, Lin Ye was long gone.
They sprayed gunfire at the cabin Lin Ye had been in, based on the direction the bodies had fallen. Seizing the opportunity while they were shooting, Lin Ye changed cabins and shot a few more cultists.
Lin Ye would empty a magazine, then immediately relocate. After repeating this a few times, not many cultists were left.
He wasn't needed anymore after that. Without their front-line scouts, they couldn't go anywhere. The area was surrounded by Bone Traps; whether they advanced or retreated, they would die here.
The remaining cultists stood nervously in the center of the camp. They understood their predicament too and now didn't dare move recklessly.
'This should be about enough. If more come...'
Just as Lin Ye was contemplating his next steps, a wave of intense dread crawled up his spine. He spun around sharply. An old man in black robes stood not far away.
"Are you the Mask-Wearing Killer?"
The High Priest wasn't angry. He got angry at his useless subordinates because they failed to do their jobs, but he didn't get angry at enemies, especially not an enemy like Lin Ye who gave him such a headache.
"That's right. And you're the cult leader?"
Lin Ye watched the High Priest's movements intently, ready to act at any moment.
"No, I am merely the High Priest. Why are you obstructing the ritual?"
The High Priest asked.
"This is my territory. Only I get to kill people here."
Lin Ye was very good at acting. So as long as he wore the mask, he *was* the killer himself.
