Chapter 158: Sunshine Sanatorium
Sunshine Sanatorium
Lin Ye hadn't yet figured out how to find Yongsen Laboratory.
While going downstairs, Lin Ye stopped by the captain's office. Bill didn't know where Yongsen Laboratory was either - he had never even heard the name.
Gunshots echoed fiercely from upstairs. To avoid being mistaken for a suspicious person, Lin Ye had no choice but to drive his sports car away from the Public Security Bureau.
"How are things on your end?"
Taking out a small mirror, Lin Ye saw Little Ye sitting on a bench.
"Not bad. And you?"
The sky in the mirror had darkened. Little Ye sat alone on the bench with no one around her.
"I need to find Yongsen Laboratory, but I don't know where to find anyone who might have information."
Unlike the Public Security Bureau headquarters located downtown, Yongsen Laboratory was somewhere in this massive city. Lin Ye couldn't possibly conduct a carpet search without any clues. "You could use that coin. It might guide you to some clues."
Little Ye sat in the darkness, speaking with some uncertainty.
"Huh? Is that really necessary?"
Lin Ye didn't think he needed to use the Lucky Coin right now.
"I'm not telling you to use the coin's function. That's a Lucky Coin, a relic. Even without direct activation, it can accomplish many things. But don't use relics too frequently - luck always comes with a price."
Little Ye stood up and left the bench.
"Alright, I'll give it a try."
Lin Ye took out the Lucky Coin and flicked it into the air with one hand.
'Heads turn left, tails turn right.'
The coin fell back down, and Lin Ye caught it with one hand.
Heads.
Lin Ye drove into a small side road.
'Heads get out, tails keep driving.'
Tails.
'Heads go straight, tails turn left.'
Tails.
...
Following the Lucky Coin's guidance, Lin Ye soon found his sports car stopping in front of an apartment building.
Following the prompts, Lin Ye got out and entered the apartment building.
'Heads go upstairs, tails...'
Hearing arguing coming from the second floor, Lin Ye put away the Lucky Coin and quickly ran toward the source of the noise.
"I've already called the hospital! The doctor said your child was never cured - he ran away on his own! The hospital has already sent people over. Just wait for that lunatic to be taken away!"
A woman with a sharp, acrimonious voice shouted.
"My son isn't sick! I'd like to see who dares to come take him!"
Another woman screamed back angrily.
Lin Ye reached the second floor and found quite a few people gathered in the hallway watching the spectacle.
"What's going on here?"
Lin Ye pushed through the crowd, moving closer to the source of the argument.
"Who are you! None of your business!"
The acrimonious woman turned and yelled at Lin Ye.
"I'm the investigation captain from the Public Security Bureau, currently investigating a murder case."
Lin Ye took out Bill's credentials and waved them in front of them.
"Oh my, I'm sorry! Please come in! This woman's child is mentally ill! The murder case must be related to that madman!"
The woman immediately changed her attitude, her voice becoming as polite as if she had met her own parents.
"Don't talk nonsense! My child hasn't left the house! How could he possibly be involved in a murder!"
The woman across argued urgently.
"Who knows if he was home at night? Yesterday around midnight I heard someone walking around in the building! What normal person wanders around the building in the middle of the night?"
The acrimonious woman just wanted to drive the madman living across from her back to the asylum.
"Don't spread rumors! Why didn't I hear anyone walking around?"
The woman retorted.
"I heard it too, around midnight. The footsteps were very heavy and lasted about half an hour before stopping."
"Indeed, I heard it too. The footsteps stopped outside my apartment for a while. I originally wanted to go check, but considering the recent unrest, I didn't dare open the door."
"I heard it too. Since she's lying, it must have been her child causing the disturbance."
"So it was that lunatic after all..."
The surrounding residents murmured among themselves.
"Really not, I'm not lying! Maybe I was asleep..."
The woman began to panic.
"Let me take a look at your child. Everyone else, please disperse."
Lin Ye walked directly into the woman's home. He had already sensed her child, but he needed to see for himself because what he sensed didn't resemble a child at all.
"Comrade, please don't listen to their nonsense. My child is very well-behaved. He couldn't possibly kill anyone."
The woman followed behind Lin Ye, speaking excitedly.
"I know. I just want to take a look to confirm."
Lin Ye was quite polite to the woman. Everyone has a mother, and he was no exception.
Pushing open the door, Lin Ye saw the woman's child - a teenage boy.
The boy was emaciated, with pale skin, sunken eye sockets, and withered yellow hair. He looked like a desiccated corpse.
After Lin Ye opened the door, the boy slowly turned his head toward the doorway. The movement wasn't human-like; it more resembled a moving plant.
In Lin Ye's perception, all the bones in the boy's body had been hollowed out, with a vibrant green plant growing in the empty spaces.
This plant grew within the boy's flesh and blood, its branches and leaves spreading to every corner of his body, including his brain.
Lin Ye could even see a green leaf in the boy's eyes.
"...What's the name of that asylum?"
Lin Ye didn't know how to handle the boy. The boy wasn't suffering now - he was completely hollowed out.
"It's called Sunshine Sanatorium. It was actually recommended by your colleagues."
Seeing that Lin Ye didn't intend to take the boy away, the woman breathed a sigh of relief.
"Location?"
Lin Ye didn't actually need to ask the woman. There were two better targets downstairs, but he wasn't in the mood to interrogate them right now.
The woman hurriedly took out her phone and showed Lin Ye the sanatorium's location.
"Thank you for your cooperation. I can't help him, but I will handle the other matters."
Lin Ye left the room. Even he couldn't help the boy - medical skills weren't omnipotent. But he would deal with those who had turned the boy into this state.
If some people thought the strong could treat the weak arbitrarily without paying a price, they were gravely mistaken.
Because there would always be someone stronger than them, someone who would make them pay the price.
Lin Ye silently walked down the stairs. Two staff members wearing Sunshine Sanatorium uniforms appeared at the bottom of the staircase.
"Last words?"
"Forget it."
Lin Ye wasn't in the mood to listen to last words.
Boom! Boom!
Shotgun backstab spiritual energy blade!
The two exploded on the spot, their red and green flesh and blood painting the hallway. Two intact heads dropped to the ground.
"I was going to give you some time for repentance. Forget it - I actually just wanted you to know you were dying, to perish in despair and agony. That's the real repentance time."
Lin Ye stepped through the flesh and blood and left the apartment building. Behind him, agonized wails and pleas for help echoed through the hallway. They didn't want to die, but this was the ending they deserved.
Lin Ye: How are things on your end?
Lin Ye floored the accelerator, heading straight for Sunshine Sanatorium.
Li Qihou: Not bad. Although we still can't get close to the target, we used an item to mark its position so we won't lose track. We can also respond quickly if any problems arise.
