Chapter 150: Shotgun Knife
"I'll give it to you too. If you keep running around outside, forget about inheriting any legacy—I'm about to become someone else's legacy myself."
Charles wasn't stupid either. Even without mentioning the yet-to-appear Spider God Cult, those Spider Men outside could easily kill them.
"Big brother, I was wrong. Give me a chance."
Jimmy promptly admitted defeat. Without his companions, he wouldn't last fifteen minutes outside.
The three of them handed their small cubes to Lin Ye, who didn't give them any trouble and let them into the church.
With more and more Spider Men gathering outside, he needed more people to help with the defense.
Especially Charles with his heavy machine gun—having him around would make defending much easier.
"Handle those Spider Men that break through the rune traps. Don't let them bother me."
Lin Ye continued playing chess with Lily. These people had arrived at just the right time—otherwise he wouldn't have had any time to slack off.
"Are you playing chess?" Jimmy glanced over a few times but couldn't understand what they were doing.
"Was that family story you mentioned made up? If it was fabricated, you're quite talented—you almost fooled me."
The entire church was under Lin Ye's control. He would deal with any Spider Men that the three couldn't handle.
"The Donald Family is actually quite famous, though he might not necessarily be the family's heir."
Bella interjected.
Her weapon was a sharp greatsword that could cleave through a Spider Man's body with a single swing.
"If the family is so famous, why would they send family members here to die? Or does your family have so many third-tiers that you need to send some in to be expended?"
Lin Ye asked in confusion.
"...Sigh, the family is almost finished. Someone just happened to give me an opportunity to inherit an ancient family's legacy. I didn't know it would turn out like this."
Jimmy sighed. He had known there was something fishy about this, but never expected the problem to be this big.
"Ancient family? What family?"
Even now, Lin Ye didn't know what he was supposed to be inheriting.
"I don't know either, but any family with an Inheritance Proof must be at least several hundred years old. The collections inside must be extremely valuable, and there might even be relics."
Jimmy looked at Lin Ye with envy. If he could obtain even one relic, he could revitalize his family.

Bella looked at Lin Ye with confusion. While Inheritance Proofs weren't common, anyone who reached a certain status would know relevant information.
After easily defeating Lily once again, Lin Ye put away the chessboard. Something seemed to have changed outside—more and more Spider Men were squeezing into the church, and he no longer had time to slack off.
Lin Ye absorbed the spiritual energy from the environment, continuously backstabbing Spider Men with spiritual energy blades. Combined with the rune traps, he quickly cleared the church of Spider Men.
But before long, more Spider Men crowded into the church. The rune traps triggered one after another as the Spider Men stepped over their companions' bodies, approaching the pew area.
Lin Ye had already set up multiple layers of mutated spiritual energy shields around the pews. Spider Men crashed into the spiritual energy shields and were impaled by spiritual energy blades.
"I'm almost out of bullets! We can't hold out much longer like this!"
Charles shouted loudly.
"You three take turns defending near the pews. Leave the monsters to me to clean up."
Lin Ye drew his experimental longsword. The spiritual energy blades were too inefficient, only able to deal with one monster at a time, and there were too many Spider Men.
Spiritual energy compression, shaping, cutting, speed.
"Die!"
Swinging the longsword, Lin Ye roared.
Scorching energy erupted from the hilt, merging into the compressed spiritual energy within the blade. The fused energy passed through three runes—shaping, cutting, and speed—before erupting forward from Lin Ye's position.

The Spider Men in front of Lin Ye were cleared out. The compressed energy, after rough shaping, erupted forward like shotgun pellets, blowing apart all enemies blocking Lin Ye's path.
Lin Ye called this technique the Shotgun Blade, a product of his research into spiritual energy compression.
"...Good thing I didn't talk back earlier."
Jimmy felt extremely grateful that Lin Ye hadn't used that technique on him before.
Lin Ye stood before the pews absorbing spiritual energy. The church doors had been completely destroyed by his strikes, and large numbers of Spider Men flooded into the church.
Spiritual energy blades appearing out of thin air continuously backstabbed approaching Spider Men. When the church became packed with Spider Men, Lin Ye would unleash another Shotgun Blade.
Charles and the others handled Spider Men squeezing into the church through damaged areas. As long as Lin Ye stood guard at the front, they could hold out for a long time.
Lin Ye continuously unleashed Shotgun Blades, occasionally taking time to repair the rune traps. The concentration of spiritual energy around them grew higher and higher—as long as he had enough mental energy, he could keep going for a long time.
Spider Man corpses soon piled up throughout the church. The front half of the church had almost been completely demolished by Lin Ye's attacks.
Lin Ye occasionally took breaks to drink water. When he finished his second bottle of mineral water, the flood of Spider Men entering the church finally began to decrease.
"Are they gone?"

Bella's expression turned grave. She knew exactly how difficult those cultists were to deal with.
They had destroyed the entire City of Sin. They wouldn't let them go until they achieved their goal.
"Boss, you can definitely handle those cultists, right?"
Jimmy moved closer to the pews, hugging Lin Ye's calf while speaking in an ingratiating tone.
"Handle them? You still don't understand the situation. This city is the Spider God Cult's nest, their chessboard. And all of you who came to compete for the Inheritance Proof are just chess pieces they've arranged. What makes you think you can handle them?"
Lin Ye closed his eyes. The City of Sin couldn't have only William as a fourth-tier spiritual energy user. The Spider Men that had just attacked the church were at most third-tier, and pretty weak ones at that. Where were the remaining monsters?
As if answering Lin Ye's question, a group of cultists riding Spider Men gradually approached the church.
The Spider Men being ridden were all mutated from relatively strong third-tier spiritual energy users. Behind those cultists stood four spider monsters mutated from fourth-tier spiritual energy users.
