I hung back as the Apostles launched their attack, loud blasts and crashes ringing out, clouds of dust rising up as fungal chunks flew out.

Acedia flew up and unleashed a flurry of lightning bolts down towards the Mutants, frying them dead as Avaritia rapidly raced around tore apart dozens of the fungal creatures with her claws, before snapping open her jaws and firing out a scorching blast of flames, roasting them to ash.

A number of the creatures dropped as Invidia snuck up on them with his Stealth and cut them down. A barrage of Negative Energy blasts rained down on a number of the creatures as Luxuria flew around above them, peppering them with her blasts.

Gula was unleashing sprays of venom clouds, but it seemed to have no effect. She promptly switched to her petrifying beams, turning several of the creatures to stone, before grabbing a Mold Man and taking a bite. She promptly wolfed the rest of it down, before rapidly slithering across and grabbing another one, tearing its head off with her jaws and eating it.

Huh, guess that means these things taste good, at least to her. I’m, uh...I’m not particularly keen on trying them myself, though...

Ira was barreling forward through the air, firing out a fierce barrage of Ether blasts as he made a beeline towards the forest. He came to a stop above the trees, lowering his hands. Suddenly, dozens of wooden vines with sharp edges and spikes all around them extended out of the tree trunks, before whipping around with immense force, tearing apart the fungal Mutants in their vicinity.

Ira took control of more and more trees, more wooden vines extending out as the leaves turned stiff and sharp, getting launched off the branches and shredding the surrounding creatures.

The swarm in the line of fire rushed out of the forest, the other Apostles promptly intercepting them and blasting them dead. As Ira steadily cleared out the forest, he then parted the trees, opening up a path straight to the Fungal King.

Alright, that’s my cue...

"<Descent>, <Enrage>."

A burst of purple energy erupted around me, wings and tail extending out of my back as the energy wrapped around my body. Horns formed on either side of my head as the whites of my eyes turned black, my teeth and nails extending into fangs and claws.

I let out a slow exhale and cracked my neck, before spreading out my wings and taking off into the air. I drew out Desecrator as I shot forward, propelling myself with concentrated jets of Negative Energy from the soles of my feet.

I put on a burst of speed as I shot towards the Fungal King, Ira using wooden tendrils to try and restrain the massive creature. The Fungal King used its vines to bat away Ira’s, who then unleashed a drilling blast of Ether to wipe out several of the vines.

But the Fungal King was quick to regenerate, the vines rapidly growing back and overwhelming Ira’s wooden vines, breaking them apart as the Fungal King triggered a massive burst of spores. As I began to close in, dozens of vines extended out towards me, before I unleashed Devour: Cloak, dark energy shrouding my body.

The vines got erased as they got within reach of me, the Fungal King quickly withdrawing them. Hm, this creature must be able to sense the other living things around it, and seems to have some level of intelligence too.

The vines picked up large rocks and broken tree trunks, hurling them at me. But it was no use, the energy of Devour consumed the incoming objects.

Ira was flying around the Fungal King, evading its vines and riddling it full of holes with Ether blasts. But the Mutant kept regenerating with immense speed, any damage inflicted repairing itself.

"<Obliterate>," I chanted, unleashing the blast at a hundred percent, blasting a wide hole through the middle of its body.

Once again, the damage swiftly repaired itself and closed up, a couple of vines whipping in towards me from either side, before getting consumed by the effect of Devour.

How about this...

"<Command: Expose Your Core>."

Hm...nothing’s happening. It was the same with Gula’s venom...are fungal Mutants immune to Status Effects? In that case...

I swooped down towards the base of the Fungal King’s body, before unleashing several blasts of Obliterate, which drilled through the bottom of its body and into the ground, destroying its roots.

As I used up about half the time limit of Enrage with the multiple blasts of Obliterate, I flew back up, several vines frantically whipping towards me as another massive spore cloud burst out around the Fungal King.

I came to a stop and hovered in front of the Fungal King’s body as Devour: Cloak consumed the vines, Ira flying over and coming to a stop next to me, using his wooden vines to keep the Fungal King’s tendrils at bay.

"<It’s no use, Chief. It’s far too large, you would need to get very likely to hit its Core while firing blindly>," He remarked with a grimace, before unleashing a volley of Ether blasts as his vines got overwhelmed.

"That’s not all, it’s possible that it’s opted to hide its Core inside its body instead of underground, we have no way of knowing where it is. And with the sheer size of this creature, along with how fast it regenerates, attacking it is all but pointless unless we pinpoint exactly where its Core is and then target it before the Mutant can move it," I responded, before switching to Ravage: Cloak as Devour: Cloak wore off, several vines shooting up towards me from below as the dark energy faded.

As they closed in on me, the swirling mass of black and white energy consumed the vines, erasing the tops of the tendrils in the blink of an eye. Hm...Ravage: Cloak only lasts for thirty seconds, so I can’t afford to let this drag out for too much longer.
