Abilities (Chapter 7)
Hearing this, Ye Sheng looked up in surprise at the sky. The Ye Heiya was still squawking, its wings flapping as its black feathers rapidly transformed. In just a short time, it had gone from a large black goose to pure white.
Huh...
Ye Sheng blinked in confusion. If she remembered correctly, Gu Luoyu had mentioned that the Ye Heiya's species was the Calamity Swan, which had black feathers in both its juvenile and adult forms.
So why had it suddenly turned white???
“It's very likely due to Little White's healing spell or from consuming too much high-level polluted creature flesh, causing its evolutionary path to change.”
Gu Luoyu, standing nearby, offered this speculation, to which Ye Sheng immediately nodded in agreement.
Little White's healing spell was incredibly miraculous, even the little one in her belly loved it. So it wasn't surprising that it could slightly change Ye Heiya's evolutionary path... Still, she wondered whether its precognitive abilities as a Calamity Swan remained intact.
As these thoughts crossed Ye Sheng's mind, the Ye Heiya, which had been flying around and squawking, finally settled down. The series of changes to its body hadn't caused it any discomfort. On the contrary, upon seeing its feathers turn completely white, it let out delighted “cooing” sounds.
Then, it immediately dashed toward the parked car, chirping “coo coo coo” to summon its little companion, Little White!
From now on, they will both be white!
However, having consumed large amounts of flesh and thus transitioning from juvenile to adult stage, the Ye Heiya wasn't accustomed to its new body and abilities. Just as it was charging forward, the precognitive ability of the Calamity Swan suddenly activated without warning.
Staring at its two owners, Ye Sheng and Gu Luoyu, hundreds fragmented images flashed through Ye Heiya's mind.
The overwhelming influx of images gave it a splitting headache, forcing it to halt mid-step.
It felt like throwing up.
By the time the flashes in its mind finally stopped and Ye Heiya regained its senses, Ye Sheng and Gu Luoyu were already standing beside it. Little White, hovering nearby, repeatedly cast healing spells, quickly dispelling the duck's headache.
However, the future visions it had seen left Ye Heiya in low spirits. It lowered its head to glance at Ye Sheng, then sneakily peeked at Gu Luoyu before letting out a series of disgruntled “coos.”
“Are you still not feeling well? Ye Heiya, how many times have I told you not to be greedy?”
Ye Sheng was entirely focused on the duck's physical condition and didn't notice its furtive glances. Frustrated, she lightly smacked its wing, scolding the gluttonous creature for its lack of restraint.
Meanwhile, Gu Luoyu, standing to the side, raised an eyebrow. Her crimson eyes gleamed, and a faint, faint smile curled her lips.
Recalling the Calamity Swan's unique abilities, Gu Luoyu remained still but extended her psychic energy, deliberately making it invisible to Ye Sheng. She wrapped it around Ye Heiya's body in layers.
Once she was satisfied, Gu Luoyu used her psychic powers to speak directly into the duck's mind.
'Ye Heiya, can you hear me? Now that you've evolved successfully, you should have gained the ability to communicate, right? Earlier, did you use your power to see our future?'
Ye Heiya's abrupt pause earlier had been obvious, impossible to hide, and easily linked to a sudden activation of its abilities.
It was just that Ye Sheng, concerned and distracted, hadn't thought of it immediately.
When Ye Heiya heard Gu Luoyu's voice in its mind, it immediately tensed up, casting a wary look at her. Gu Luoyu's expression remained unchanged, but she sighed inwardly.
So, it's not a good future, then.
But Gu Luoyu couldn't guess what kind of future would make Ye Heiya so guarded against her.
After all, aside from being its owner, she was also Ye Sheng's partner. Neither role should warrant the duck treating her like a dangerous figure.
'You're a bad person! You'll make my owner sad. I'll expose your true nature!'
Ye Heiya didn't hide, bothering its thoughts. It angrily retorted in its mind while trying to repel Gu Luoyu's psychic energy... Not just espers could manipulate psychic energy, some high-level polluted creatures could too.
However, polluted creatures weren't as adept at controlling psychic energy as humans, relying more on their formidable bodies and innate abilities.
'I think we need to talk privately. Don't say a word to Ye Sheng, or I'll kill you the moment you open your beak.'
Gu Luoyu's face remained calm, but the voice projected into Ye Heiya's mind was icy and ruthless, showing no mercy.
The cold words stunned the duck. Its initial plan to secretly tattle to Ye Sheng had to be regretfully abandoned... Because it knew Gu Luoyu's true nature, the Ye Heiya didn't dare gamble with its life.
Sigh!
Her poor owner, Ye Sheng!
In the future, she would be utterly heartbroken because of Gu Luoyu.
Burdened with a secret it couldn't reveal, Ye Heiya grew restless. At that moment, Little White chirped and nuzzled against its feet, as if silently comforting it.
Instantly soothed, the delightful duck gently rubbed its head against Ye Sheng before letting out a series of “coos” to prove it was perfectly healthy and fine!
So there was no need to worry.
Then, it let Little White hop onto its head, ready to take it for a ride later.
Relieved to see the Ye Heiya lively again, Ye Sheng exhaled. Considering how late it was, if they didn't hurry to catch up with the group, Captain Liu Li and the others might spend the whole night sleepless with worry.
That would only delay their journey.
Soon after, Ye Sheng and Gu Luoyu returned to the car, while Ye Heiya and Little White followed behind. The group quickly made their way toward the caravan's location and, unsurprisingly, caught up within an hour.
Clearly, without Gu Luoyu's presence, the entire team had felt hazardous.
So when they saw Gu Luoyu's car approaching, those who had been anxiously watching immediately relaxed, they could finally get a good night's sleep!
...
In the early hours of the morning, after Ye Sheng had fallen asleep, Gu Luoyu got up and left the tent.
Ye Heiya, napping outside with its eyes closed, noticed immediately. Knowing it couldn't avoid this, it silently trailed after Gu Luoyu as the two headed toward a secluded corner to find a suitable spot for their conversation.
Even though their discussion would take place through psychic energy, meaning no one else would hear a thing even if they stumbled upon them.
'Now, tell me. Why would I make Ye Sheng sad?'
Once they stopped, Gu Luoyu turned to face Ye Heiya, narrowing her eyes slightly. She doubted the duck's precognition, no matter what, she would never harm Ye Sheng!
