Chapter 249 : Pre-Qin Lady’s Walk
Chapter 249: Pre-Qin Lady’s Walk
Nowadays, people had become more and more absurd. Sichuan Girl had become quite popular now, but as the saying went — “the more popular one became, the more controversies followed.”
When she was just a blogger before, there were indeed a few voices of doubt online, but she could ignore them easily — first, her influence was small and didn’t matter much; second, if one cared about every comment, there was no way to survive in the world of self-media.
But now it was different. With two million followers, she might not yet be a top-tier streamer, but her size was nothing small — there weren’t many like her across the entire internet.
Once fame rose, people’s eyes naturally followed. Fortunately, it happened to be the National Day long holiday recently, and Sichuan Girl had gone home. Since she couldn’t livestream, the videos she posted were all from her backlog.
Otherwise, her popularity would likely be even higher. Even so, her inbox was flooded daily, filled with countless unread messages — so encountering a few weirdos was only to be expected.
At present, Sichuan Girl’s private messages were all sorts of things — mostly fan comments, some from advertisers, MCNs, or job seekers. There was nothing she didn’t have in that inbox.
No one knew how she started chatting with that strange fan, but Lin Mo felt she must have been swayed by the other party’s sweet words — perhaps promised some benefits, or maybe she had already received them.
But that had nothing to do with him. That was Sichuan Girl’s own matter. Whether she continued to succeed or collapsed midway, it was her own choice. What Lin Mo needed to do was simply mind his own business.
He had learned after going home last time that meddling in others’ lives or careers was meaningless — this truth had only become clearer to him.
That night, Lin Mo grabbed a casual bite outside, then came back to continue working on his pre-tasks. Wang Chu didn’t come by again — Lin Mo didn’t know if Class Monitor Wang had noticed something at lunch or if Wang Chu was simply too tired, but there hadn’t been a peep from him. If Lin Mo hadn’t seen the class monitor’s post showing their dinner together, he might’ve thought Wang Chu had been trained to death.
“Click-click, click-click!”
Lin Mo fiddled with the Fidget Spinner Yuanbao in his hand, pressing it now and then. The crisp sound helped relieve his anxiety as he watched two anime series simultaneously at 3x speed — their chatter mixing into chaos.
At ten that night, Lin Mo turned off both his computer and tablet, then carefully placed the spinner back into the glass display cabinet in his living room.
From his backpack, he then took out a transparent plastic box filled with candies wrapped in rainbow paper.
It was the very box Jiang Xia had left him. When he returned from South City, he had packed away all her belongings carefully at the bottom of a trunk — except this box of candy, which he brought with him.
He opened the box, took out one candy, then solemnly placed the rest back into the cabinet.
Peeling the wrapper, he popped a pink candy ball into his mouth — its sweet-and-sour flavor was quite pleasant. Holding up the wrapper toward the glass cabinet, Lin Mo smiled faintly and whispered,
“Got it. Tastes good. Good night, old classmate — don’t miss me.”
As the lights in the living room went out, a breeze brushed through Lin Mo’s room in Jiangning, flipping open the high school Chinese textbook resting by the window.
It happened to stop at the page of “The Brocade Zither” (《锦瑟》):
“The brocade zither, fifty strings — each string, each fret recalls youth;
Zhuang Zhou’s morning dream confused with butterflies, King Du Yu’s spring heart entrusted to the cuckoo.
The bright moon over the sea makes pearls weep; the sun over Blue Field brings mist to jade.
Such feelings could be recalled, yet at that time, I was already lost.”
Jiang Xia had marked this very page — this was what she wanted to say.
Those beautiful moments and memories could only exist in the past. Back then, she hadn’t cherished them, thinking it was just another ordinary afternoon.
So, after high school, what had carried her through her journey across the vast lands of the country were those golden youthful years.
A single rose petal remained, pressed lonely within the pages. As the breeze stirred it, the petal quivered softly — just like the verse:
“On Yellow Crane Tower’s broken shore, is my old friend still there?
The old rivers and mountains are filled with new sorrow.
I wish to buy osmanthus and wine again — but it’s never quite the same as youth.”
The next morning was Mid-Autumn Festival — a day of family reunion. Yet with how society had developed, this holiday no longer seemed that important.
Just like Lin Mo, who had already gone back to school before the festival even arrived.
In the past, travel was inconvenient; nowadays, returning home was easy — naturally, homesickness wasn’t what it used to be.
Or perhaps it was simply because he wasn’t at that age yet. He hadn’t graduated, hadn’t stepped into society, hadn’t become one of those toiling far from home — that kind of sentiment simply hadn’t formed.
Back at school, his routine quickly returned to normal. The campus, however, was deserted — most students were still on break and hadn’t returned.
Lin Mo finished his morning workout alone on the track. But when he went to grab breakfast by the back gate, he happened to run into Wang Chu and Class Monitor Wang Jing.
“Morning, you two.”
“Morning, Lin Mo,” Class Monitor Wang greeted him with a smile.
As for Wang Chu, he was gnawing on breakfast with a grimace, looking utterly lifeless.
“Whoa, this your idea of breakfast?” Lin Mo said in surprise at the sight.
Before them were two bowls of soy milk, two eggs, half a boiled corn cob each, and one tomato apiece — and that was it.
It looked like plenty, yet nothing about it seemed filling.
“No choice — diet control,” Wang Jing explained, then turned to Lin Mo. “But what did you feed him yesterday? After all that training last night, his weight didn’t drop — it went up by 0.2 kilos!”
Upon hearing that, Lin Mo raised his hand instantly. “I swear, he ate exactly what you told me to give him — nothing else!”
“Fine, I’ll believe you. But today, his meals happen under my watch. You’re not allowed to feed him anything, got it?”
Lin Mo nodded quickly, then exchanged a helpless glance with Wang Chu — silently mouthing: Bro, I can’t save you.
“Boss, one bowl of pork and century egg congee, two beef pies, one egg, one sesame ball — I’ll grab my own pickles,” Lin Mo called to the vendor.
Soon, he carried his lavish breakfast over — intending to sit with them, but after some thought, chose a separate table instead. He was afraid that if Wang Chu got too hungry, he might turn zombie and snatch his food.
But mostly, it was because Class Monitor Wang’s sharp gaze scared him off. He didn’t dare provoke her while Wang Chu’s nerves were on edge.
“Ahem, Class Monitor, you’ve made great progress these past two days too — you look much slimmer now,” Lin Mo said, trying to lighten the mood.
Sure enough, Wang Jing’s expression softened immediately. She smiled. “Not bad, I’ve lost 7 jin and 4 liang.”
Lin Mo gave her a thumbs-up. “Amazing — you lost a whole baby! Mother and child are safe!”
Class Monitor Wang: “???”
“Ahem, forget I said that.” Lin Mo coughed and buried himself in his food.
Well, when you described it so precisely, how could people not think of a mother fresh from the delivery room? Seven jin four liang — baby delivered safe and sound. Wonderful.
“Speaking of which, Lin Mo, shouldn’t you work out too? Your face may have had a hardware upgrade, but your body shouldn’t fall behind. If you got an eight-pack, you’d be a real heartthrob — maybe your rich lady girlfriend would love that type.
If you slack off now, one day she might dump you,” Wang Jing suddenly said with a smirk.
To her, Lin Mo needed training even more than Wang Chu. Wang Chu’s main goal was weight loss — he was overweight, and it was bad for his health. Working out together not only improved them both but also built emotional connection — especially the latter, which mattered most.
But Lin Mo? He was dating a goddess-level rich woman. Shouldn’t he seize that chance — and eat soft rice for life?
As a woman herself, Wang Jing knew well — not all women loved men with abs, but abs definitely earned points. And that body type was perfect for a kept man.
Lin Mo was just an ordinary college student — average background, not yet graduated, no income. Finally landing such a chance — he had to hold onto it.
Good looks weren’t enough; the physique had to match too. Only then could he truly win a rich woman’s heart.
Hearing that, Lin Mo almost choked on his congee. “What the hell, why am I suddenly the target here?”
“I’m not eating grass every day! And do I look like the kind who eats soft rice? Ever consider we might just… be mutually attracted?” he protested, pointing to himself.
At that, Wang Chu and Wang Jing exchanged a glance — and nodded vigorously.
“You are eating soft rice,” Wang Chu said bluntly. “You — an average family background, average education, not yet graduated, no income — how’d you land a goddess-tier girlfriend, and a rich one at that? She’s not running a charity, man.”
Wang Jing chimed in. “Exactly! Wang Chu told me she even buys you clothes and gave you a watch worth tens of thousands — if that’s not soft rice, then what is?”
Lin Mo: “…”
He had no comeback for that.
“Fine, fine, my bad for talking. Anyway, I’m not working out. You two keep it up — may Wang Chu achieve success soon,” he said, biting into his beef pie contentedly.
Come on, as if Liu Rushuang was some little biscuit worth giving up good food for. He earned his money fair and square.
If he couldn’t even eat what he wanted after making this much, what was the point of money? A man could live without glory, but not without good food. If he couldn’t eat and drink well, he might as well dig a hole and bury himself!
After breakfast, the two went back to the gym for another round of sweat and tears, while Lin Mo returned to his place to continue grinding through his pre-tasks.
By noon, just as he was about to order takeout to appease his stomach temple, he noticed Miss Yuan Meng had updated her social post — and by the location tag, she was already back in Jiangning.
He couldn’t help but glance toward the red bag inside his display cabinet.
【Mugwort Foot Soak Herbal Pack: dispels dampness and cold, promotes circulation, improves sleep — ¥12.9】
A wellness product — maybe not life-saving, but effective enough, and perfect as a small gift.
He had been planning to visit Miss Yuan Meng’s home in the next few days anyway — to pave the way for his next step.
Visiting empty-handed wouldn’t do, but showing up with just fruit would seem cheap considering her family’s status. This gift was perfect — and given that he was Professor Li’s student, it wouldn’t look out of place at all.
Besides, she had rounded up a favor for him last time. Though it had been her idea, he couldn’t just pretend it never happened. This would count as a return gift.
So he sent her a message, saying he was back and asking when she’d be free to come by.
Miss Yuan Meng simply replied with an “OK” emoji. Lin Mo thought she’d come tomorrow — after all, it was Mid-Autumn, and just because he didn’t celebrate didn’t mean others didn’t, especially those with elders at home.
But unexpectedly, barely an hour later, there came a loud pounding on his door.
As the door opened, Lin Mo’s eyes widened — standing there was a silver-haired loli with two thick braids hanging over her chest, a white baseball cap with “Platelet” written across it, and an all-white outfit — T-shirt, pants, shoes — so blindingly white it hurt the eyes.
Most striking of all — Miss Yuan Meng’s chest was… rather impressive.
“Yuan Jie, you—” Lin Mo’s pupils trembled as he stammered.
Seeing his stunned face, Miss Yuan Meng smirked, curling her lips into a mischievous grin, then puffed out her chest deliberately. “How’s it look? Sexy, right? Your Sister Yuan’s still got womanly charm, huh?”
“That’s not what I meant — is this even right?” Lin Mo asked, eyeing her up and down, soul in turmoil.
Miss Yuan Meng huffed angrily. “Hmph! What’s wrong with it? Liu Rushuang walks with that seductive sway — and now I’ve learned the authentic Pre-Qin Lady’s Walk myself. Watch this.”
With that, Miss Yuan Meng took a step — chest out, hips back — her gait somehow resembling Tom the Cat from Tom and Jerry.
For the first time, Lin Mo truly felt that curves could be a disease. Each sway, each wriggle — from behind, one might think she was about to nurse the passersby.
But as she continued her “Pre-Qin Lady’s Walk,” Lin Mo’s gaze drifted from her chest… down to her stomach.
“How’s that, Mo boy? Sexy enough?” she asked proudly, chin raised.
Lin Mo: →_→
“Yuan Jie, we’re both adults here. You don’t have to pull this stunt. At this point, I could sue you for fraud! I’ve seen push-up pads before, but this level of grafting is new to me!”
He pointed to her stomach.
Following his gesture, Miss Yuan Meng slowly lowered her gaze — and froze.
Three seconds later, she casually tugged the “unknown object” on her abdomen back up to her chest, then asked with composure,
“So, how do I compare to Liu Rushuang?”
Lin Mo widened his eyes.
“No way — that’s criminal-level deception!”
