Chapter 423: Sean
Lana gave a faint smile, her tone steady and composed.
"Certain gases contain chemicals that, when released into the air in small amounts, can cause hallucinations, especially if someone inhales them over a long period."
She paused briefly before adding, "It doesn’t affect everyone equally, but those more sensitive... will begin to see things that aren’t there."
Eleanor was stunned.
She had never expected Lana to possess such knowledge.
’She’s not just skilled in spiritual matters... she understands the real world just as well...’
What Eleanor didn’t know was that Lana had learned this kind of knowledge at ShadowRidge University.
After clarifying everything, Lana walked toward the gravestone.
She knelt down, her fingers brushing lightly against the cold stone surface, and began the ritual.
Her movements were precise.
She activated several exorcism talismans in succession, each one releasing a faint glow that rippled through the surroundings like gentle waves.
Within half an hour...it was done.
The lingering disturbance vanished completely, leaving behind a calm, almost serene atmosphere.
When Lana stood up, Eleanor approached her and handed over the jade ring Lana had requested.
The moment Lana saw it...a faint smile appeared on her lips.
"Thank you," she said softly.
Eleanor nodded, though confusion lingered in her eyes.
To her, the jade ring was nothing extraordinary. It wasn’t large, nor particularly valuable.
She had even checked its price, it was worth only a few thousand dollars at most.
Compared to the usual cost of inviting a priest or celestial master, millions, sometimes even tens of millions, it seemed insignificant.
Yet Lana had asked for this.
Once Lana took the jade ring, Mr. Crow chuckled, his tone teasing, "You got quite a bargain this time. How did you even recognize it?"
Lana only smiled, her eyes glinting faintly.
Mr. Crow leaned closer, curiosity evident. "Let me take a look at it too."
She immediately pulled it back slightly, a playful note in her voice, "No. You’re not getting it."
Then she added, more seriously, "I need it to raise a Shiki."
At that, Mr. Crow raised a brow.
Lana’s thoughts drifted briefly.
She remembered her time in the ghost zone, when she had spoken with celestial masters and priests.
From them, she had learned the requirements to raise a Shiki, a personal spirit bound to its master.
A talisman alone was not enough. She needed a medium. A proper vessel.
And that vessel had to be jade...high-quality jade, infused with offerings, carrying history, and strong enough to contain a spirit.
At the time, she had thought it nearly impossible.
Especially after recalling something from her past life... a jade ring medium.
A one-of-a-kind medium capable of containing even the most powerful Shiki.
Its value had once reached an astronomical sum, something she couldn’t even dream of affording back then.
She hadn’t even qualified to enter the auction where it was sold.
But...when she came here...to the gravestone and looked into Eleanor’s luck, she saw the jade ring stored in their mansion.
And she recognized it instantly.
In her past life, it had belonged to a woman named Elora, who claimed it came from a relative who died under mysterious circumstances.
This time... Lana had prevented that "accident." In exchange, she acquired the jade.
A fair trade. She had saved lives. And gained what she needed.
As she walked away with it now, her heart felt unusually light.
’With this... I can finally begin...’
She could capture spirits. Bind them. Make them her own.
A faint excitement flickered in her eyes.
Mr. Crow noticed and couldn’t help but try to dampen her enthusiasm slightly, "Most spirits don’t willingly form contracts with cultivators. They have their own conditions."
Lana chuckled softly, unbothered. "Then I’ll just meet those conditions."
Meanwhile... elsewhere Baron met his friend Sean.
Sean had always been there for him, especially during difficult times. When Baron had been troubled about his own house, it was Sean who had guided him.
Now... Sean was the one in trouble. And Baron couldn’t ignore it.
Sean’s face looked pale, exhaustion etched into his features as he spoke, his voice heavy with desperation, "There must be a way to get my sister exorcised!"
His hands trembled slightly.
"I went to priests... celestial masters... but they all demanded ten million... and three months’ time..."
He clenched his fists tightly. "She won’t survive that long..."
Baron felt a chill run through him. For a moment, he didn’t know what to say.
Then suddenly...he remembered something.
"There’s a website," he said quickly, his voice gaining urgency. "I bought a talisman from there."
Sean looked up sharply.
Baron continued, "I used an exorcism talisman from that site... Let’s test it out."
Hope flickered in Sean’s eyes. "Okay!"
Both of them flicked the talisman on Sean’s little sister Rose and she fell alseep, making Sean burst out into tears of gratitude.
"If the person behind that website made something like this... they might not charge as much." Sean murmured hopefully.
Baron leaned forward slightly. "You should try contacting them."
Sean’s breathing quickened slightly, as if a lifeline had just been thrown to him in the middle of a storm.
’Maybe... just maybe... there’s still a chance...’
Even though Sean knew he might be overthinking things, perhaps even clinging to false hope, he still couldn’t bring himself to give up.
The fear of losing his sister gnawed at him relentlessly.
He clenched his fists and looked at Baron, his voice low, almost pleading, "Please... leave a message for them."
Baron didn’t hesitate.
"Alright," he replied firmly.
Sean quickly followed up, sending his own messages as well, each word carrying desperation and urgency.
.............
Meanwhile,
Lana was sitting in the mansion, quietly eating her meal.
Ding.
A notification sound broke the silence. She glanced at her phone and saw several messages.
Some were from Jenny. She opened them first.
Jenny had sent cheerful updates about her school, how lively the environment was, how she was making friends, and how everything seemed to be going well.
