Chapter 651: Clip
Lana turned toward Sophia. "I already know where that Ghost King might have gone, and it just happens to be our chance to hunt him."
Sophia looked at Lana and nodded.
"I have collected some information as well. First of all, I heard that the Ghost King will go somewhere within the next day because he is about to evolve."
Lana chuckled. "It is near the Nether River. I have heard about it too, and I was planning to check it out, but it was already too late today."
Sophia nodded.
"Then let’s go tomorrow. The deadline is approaching anyway, and staying here any longer will not benefit us. They might even consider our assignment late if we return after the deadline."
Lana nodded. "That is true."
The moment she finished speaking, Lana suddenly cut her own hand. Blood immediately welled from the wound.
Calix and Danny from outside rushed back the moment they sensed something was wrong, their expressions changing when they saw Lana deliberately hurting herself.
For a moment, they were completely speechless. Lana chuckled.
"What can I do? There are no phones here. The only way I can call you two back is by hurting myself."
The two exchanged furious glances before looking back at Lana. ’This girl is truly infuriating.’
There was nothing they could do except silently nod.
Once they returned to guarding the area, Lana and Sophia finally lay down and fell asleep peacefully. They were certain that the others would not harm them during the night, and, sure enough, nothing happened.
The night passed peacefully.
However, Calix and Danny were completely exhausted. They had barely slept during the previous two days, and now their faces looked so drained that it seemed as though they could collapse and fall asleep at any moment.
When Lana noticed their miserable expressions the following morning, she felt absolutely no pity for them.
Instead, she almost wanted to laugh. ’They were the ones who had been acting so intimidating and frightening in the first place.’
She looked at them and spoke. "Today, we are going to the Nether River."
Danny and Calix exchanged a glance before reluctantly nodding.
Soon, Lana and Sophia set off toward the Nether River.
Lana had already asked around for directions, so finding the river was not difficult. It was located in the opposite direction from the ghost town.
There were several forests along the way, which served as the only recognizable landmarks before they eventually reached the enormous river.
The moment they arrived, they saw the Nether River stretching before them.
Its water was completely black.
It was not simply dark because of the absence of light. The river itself seemed to be filled with an endless, unnatural darkness that churned slowly beneath the surface.
Occasionally, faint ripples appeared, even though there was no wind strong enough to disturb the water.
Anyone who fell into that river would be completely engulfed by the darkness.
Even the darkness hidden within their own souls would be devoured, leaving behind absolutely nothing.
All souls and other creatures living within the ghost domain had been repeatedly warned never to approach the Nether River.
Yet ghosts who wished to become Ghost Kings would still come here.
The negative energy surrounding the Nether River was incredibly dense, making it the perfect place for a powerful ghost to undergo evolution and break through into the Ghost King realm.
Soon, Lana and Sophia noticed something lying near the river. It looked like a large lump lying motionless on the ground.
The two immediately decided to sneak around and approach it from behind. Once they reached a safe position, Lana frowned.
"Strange. That lump is not moving at all."
Sophia nodded. "If only we had some kind of enhanced vision."
Lana chuckled. "Don’t worry. We do."
With that, she took out an enhanced vision talisman and pressed it against herself. The next second, the talisman activated.
Her vision suddenly sharpened, and everything in the distance became remarkably clear. She focused on the lump near the river and zoomed in.
Her expression gradually changed. The reason the lump was not moving was not because it was undergoing evolution. It was dead.
Lana’s first suspicion immediately fell upon Calix and Danny.
She turned around and looked at the others. "You two have already hunted the Ghost King."
Sophia immediately realised what Lana was implying. She looked at Lana and then toward Calix and Danny.
"So you two came all the way here because you had already found its location?"
Calix and Danny immediately shook their heads.
"We don’t know what you are talking about. We haven’t hunted any Ghost King."
Lana narrowed her eyes. She turned toward Mr. Crow.
"Can you sense anything?"
Mr. Crow quickly closed his eyes and extended his senses.
He could detect the essence of a ghost king lingering on someone who had recently hunted one. However, after carefully sensing Calix and Danny, he found no trace of such an aura.
He slowly shook his head. Lana’s expression became disappointed.
"All right. If this was simply a hidden mission, then even if we don’t receive the extra points, that is fine."
With that, she calmly turned around and began walking away. Sophia was stunned.
Previously, Lana had shown such enthusiasm toward completing the hidden quest that Sophia had almost believed Lana would somehow complete it no matter what.
Yet now, Lana was acting completely indifferent. Sophia immediately understood. ’She is trying to trick them.’
Calix and Danny must have done something.
Soon, Calix, Danny, Lana, and Sophia arrived at a separate location away from the others.
Lana looked toward Mr. Crow. "Can you create a voice barrier?"
Mr. Crow nodded and immediately created a soundproof barrier around them. Sophia quickly grabbed Lana’s hand and lowered her voice.
"Do you suspect that Calix and Danny did something?"
Lana shook her head. "It is not them."
Sophia stared at her in confusion. "What do you mean?"
"If you had stayed near the river a little longer, you would have noticed that there was a hair clip lying on the ground." Lana frowned slightly.
