Chapter 508: The Birth of a New Life
Su Mingxuan’s face lit up with joy. "Of course! I’m more than happy to look after my grandsons," he replied warmly.
"You go ahead and do your work, Lanlan. I will take good care of them."
Su Qinglan patted the cubs’ heads gently. "Be good with grandpa, okay? Listen to him." The cubs nodded their little heads and waved their tiny paws. "Grandpa, play with us!" Xiao Yi said in his soft voice. Su Qinglan laughed and left them with her father.
She then walked toward the new stone house that the tribe had been building.
When she arrived, she could not believe her eyes. The walls were so sturdy and straight. They looked fine and strong. Everyone in the fox tribe stood around the house with wide, excited smiles.
"Wow, look at these walls!" one fox beastman said loudly. "They are so straight and solid. I can’t believe we made this ourselves!"
Another laughed happily. "Yes! It feels like a real house, not a cave. We did it!"
The structure of the house was entirely complete. It had two rooms, a kitchen, and a bathhouse. The outline of all the walls was ready. Now they only needed to make the roof and the gate.
Su Qinglan looked around proudly. "Everyone has worked so hard. The walls are excellent," she said. She pointed at the entrance area. "For the gate, we will use real wood. The trees here are very big. We can cut one into square pieces and arrange them nicely as a strong gate."
A young fox male nodded eagerly. "Yes, Sister Qinglan! We will choose the best tree. It will look beautiful and last long."
For the roof, Su Qinglan explained her plan.
"We will make a triangular shape on top. First, lay strong wooden beams across. That will be the base layer. Then, on top of the wood, we will use huge waterproof leaves. They are thick. When it rains, the water will slide down both sides and not leak inside."
She continued, "We will bind the leaves tightly with strong vines and straw. If the leaves get rotten later, we can easily change them with fresh ones. With some straw added, our house will be completely ready and warm."
The fox tribe members cheered. "That sounds perfect!" one said. "No more worrying about rain leaking into the house."
The lion tribe and rabbit tribe members were also very happy. "We can finally have big houses for ourselves," a lion male said with a big smile.
"And we can build as many as we want now. No more fighting for space in those dark caves."
The happiest ones were actually the single males. They had always been left out whenever it came to housing.
Females and their families always got the good places first. But these males who were not bonded yet always had to squeeze with other males.
Sometimes almost twenty males had to share one single cave. That was really suffocating, especially for males like them who were territorial and liked their own space. But they had no choice before and had to do it.
Now they were so happy that they could even build their own houses by themselves.
Even though the houses might be small at first, personal space was always personal.
They felt free and excited. With the open space the city lord had given them, they truly could build many houses in this area. No more squeezing or fighting for a corner in a cold cave.
Even the lion tribe looked at the foxes with comfortable and happy smiles. Their eyes were literally glowing with so much worship as they looked at the fox tribe.
Their lion king was also so capable. He was able to win the heart of the female Qinglan, who was a witch doctor and always had many unique ideas.
At the very beginning, they were really not thinking that they would have much future with this fox tribe.
But as time passed, they realized that they had actually gained so much just by living with them.
They now had good food, warm clothing, and now even had sturdier houses. No one in the entire beast world knew about such comfortable living.
Not only had they actually migrated from unknown small tribes, but now they were also living in such a big and strong tribe.
People never went hungry here, even in the colder season. There was always food available.
So they were now realizing that maybe this cold season would truly bring happiness to them, and there would be no death this time. The thought made their hearts feel warm and hopeful.
With that, everyone’s energy became even more prominent as they worked hard. They continued to slice the stones into rectangular shapes with great effort. The sound of claws hitting stone filled the air, but it was a happy sound of progress.
The rabbit tribe was also very happy. Even though they had been reduced in number so much before, with the help of the witch doctor Su Qinglan and medicine from the fox tribe, they had all returned to good health.
And their fertility has always been higher than that of other beastmen. So now they actually had 20 cubs.
Yes, you would not believe it, but they really had 20 healthy cubs. A single female had given birth to more than two or three cubs alone. They could not be more happy about it.
At first, when they arrived, they were hardly around 50 people. But now they alone had 20 cubs.
The leader, Tu Yelang, was really happy. It seemed that he had really not let his father down. Their tribe did not perish. They really had a new beginning in front of them.
A wonderful life was waiting, and they were ready to grab the opportunity with both hands.
Everyone kept working with smiles on their faces. The stone house stood tall and strong as a symbol of their hard work and new future.
