Daily Life in the 70s

Chapter 298: Interest

Shen Yixiang said she needed to go back and clean the house first and also look for some grapefruit leaves.

When asked what she wanted the leaves for, she said that boiling them for bathwater could ward off bad luck.

Shen Yiguang and Yang PeiMin just let her have her way; such beliefs were common back in their hometown. Regardless, it was still a bath, wasn’t it? Upon hearing this, Yang PeiMin had an idea.

Shen Yiguang, however, knew her like the back of his hand and gave her a knowing smile, "You can’t take a bath just yet. But, I’ve had Yixiang light the stove already. When we get back, you can wipe down on the heated brick bed and get a good sleep. The hospital here is too cold, and you haven’t had a proper rest these days, have you?"

Yang PeiMin nodded, indeed, she had not slept well, always feeling cold as if she had never experienced such a frigid winter before.

Shen Yiguang drove over in a jeep and made her sit in the back, wrapping her in another blanket, before returning to their rented house.

Shen Yixiang had already prepared the grapefruit leaf water, placed it on the ground, and asked Shen Yiguang to carry Yang PeiMin over it before returning to the room. Seeing this ritual made Yang PeiMin burst into laughter; Shen Yixiang really did it with great seriousness.

Now living in a room facing the sun that was airy and bright, Yang PeiMin felt much better upon her return, despite the doctor’s orders to lay down most of the time. She could now sit up, so she had Shen Yixiang place the kang table beside her, along with books and stationery. Whenever she felt up to it, she would sit up to read and do some work.

She also gave Li Yue their new address so she could come over on weekends to stay in the same room as Shen Yixiang. During the day, Li Yue would come to her room, sit on the kang, and together they would study, then rest, drink tea, and enjoy snacks. Li Yue absolutely relished these times.

Yang PeiMin also felt that under Shen Yixiang’s meticulous care, she was getting better day by day. Her lower abdomen hardly hurt anymore, and although she still felt a bit dizzy, at least she wasn’t nauseous anymore and could eat normal food.
