Ye Qing Huan looked like she had something to say about Lin Fan’s decision, but she held herself back in the end.

Though with the way that she prepared herself, it seemed like she was ready to jump in at any moment if the situation changed.

The decision that Lin Fan made was that he would be the one that would take this trial.

Of course Ye Qing Huan would have her doubts about this since she had never seen him actually show any prowess related to alchemy. Which was why she thought that he was just doing this so that he would be bait for her.

Once he failed, she would be able to see through everything that was contained in this place.

Though that wasn’t actually what Lin Fan had planned.

"Even if it is a test of alchemy skills, would they go that far? It should be a basic test of alchemy skills since this place should be a learning pavilion."

The reason that Lin Fan was so certain of this was that he could see the source of the burn marks with his Appraisal Eyes. With his Appraisal Eyes, he could tell that many of the burn marks were actually from low grade flames.

There were some that came from high grade flames, but most of the marks that were here were actually from low grade flames. Which meant that this pavilion wasn’t just a normal alchemy pavilion, but also a place where they taught the future alchemists of the Dao Sect.

A place like this definitely wouldn’t make things hard for those that came here if there was a trial here.

This trial was most likely to test them to see if they were qualified to accept the inheritance of the Dao Sect.

Once the decision was made that he would be the one to take the trial, the figure of flames pointed at the wall behind the cauldron.

There was a door that opened up as the figure of flames said, "Go on in then."

Lin Fan gave a nod before stepping forward, but there was a wall of flames that fell behind him.

This wall of flames was to stop Ye Qing Huan who had wanted to follow Lin Fan in.

When she was stopped by this wall of flames, it seemed like Ye Qing Huan was about to lose her temper. It was as if she was about to go all out against this figure of flames just to follow Lin Fan in.

A bitter smile appeared on Lin Fan’s face when he saw this as he thought that Ye Qing Huan was going to ruin the plan.

But it turned out that there was a different arrangement from the figure of flame that solved everything.

As the figure of flames said this, there was a second door that opened up that seemed to lead to the same place as the first door. This second door was right beside the first door and led the same way.

Ye Qing Huan had a trace of doubt in her eyes, but she decided to go along with this. It was all because of the way that Lin Fan looked at her that she calmed down in the end.

But it still seemed like she was going to go all out if something did happen.

Since Ye Qing Huan accepted it, there was nothing else that had to be said as they went through their respective doors.

Only when they went through and saw what was on the other side, they couldn’t help revealing wry smiles.

It was a small alchemy station that was surrounded by stands.

With the way that this place was designed, it was as if the trial that Lin Fan was supposed to take was some kind of spectacle.

"I know what you’re thinking, but this was the place that we used to give exams to our young alchemists. I’m just reusing this place to hold the trials." The flame figure explained after they entered this place.

"Then the trials aren’t something that the Dao Sect left behind?" Lin Fan casually asked after the flame figure said this.

"It is and it isn’t."

He hadn’t been expecting much in the first place, but this answer from the flame figure did raise more questions than it answered.

Regardless, it didn’t seem like the flame figure was going to answer anything.

Instead, what the flame figure did was wave its hand and cause a few things to appear on the table in front of Lin Fan.

It was strange that the flame figure would make things appear instead of burning it away, but there were these things that were in front of him that he just couldn’t ignore.

The things that appeared in front of Lin Fan were a bunch of herbs that were clearly meant to be used in some kind of pill refinement. It was just that Lin Fan naturally had no idea what it was that the flame figure wanted him to do with this.

"If you’re asking me to refine a pill, shouldn’t you at least give me a recipe so I know what you want?" Lin Fan asked in the end.

However, it seemed like this wasn’t what the flame figure wanted him to do as it shook its head.

"What is this?" The flame figure just asked this in such a simple manner that Lin Fan couldn’t help being caught off guard by its words.

Lin Fan narrowed his eyes to look at the flame figure as if he was trying to figure out what the flame figure wanted from him, but the flame figure just simply said, "There’s no trick, I just want you to identify this herb."

It was just that the simpler the flame figure acted, the less that it seemed like some kind of trick.

No matter how he looked at it, it really seemed like the flame figure was just asking him what this herb was.

So after thinking about it, Lin Fan finally said, "Fire Spore Lingzhi."

"Are you sure?" The flame figure asked back in a calm voice after Lin Fan answered.

Lin Fan didn’t even bother saying anything as he gave a simple nod in response.

With what seemed to be a laugh, the flame figure said, "Not bad. It seems like you have some basic knowledge."

Then pointing to another herb, the flame figure said, "What about this one?"

Without any hesitation, Lin Fan gave the answer to the question.

Something like this really wasn’t hard for Lin Fan at all with his Appraisal Eyes.

Others would have to depend on their years of knowledge and experience to be able to recognize the herbs that the flame figure took out. However, it only took a single glance from Lin Fan to get all the information that he needed about these herbs.

The only thing was that the flame figure didn’t seem to care that much about information.

The only thing that the flame figure really cared about was whether Lin Fan was able to identify the herb or not.

With the way that the trial went, it really felt too easy for him...

"Even if it’s supposed to be easier because it’s a test, it shouldn’t be this easy..."

That was all that Lin Fan could think as he continued identifying everything that the flame figure took out for him.

Eventually, it seemed like he was going to reach the end of the herbs that had been taken out.

Only before that happened, there was one herb that Lin Fan wasn’t able to identify.

This was the last herb that the flame figure pointed to and the only one that his Appraisal Eyes didn’t have any information on.

It wasn’t that he wasn’t able to get any information on it, it was just that the Appraisal Eyes had no information. No matter how he looked at this herb, there was nothing that came from the Appraisal Eyes.

It really seemed like this was an herb that didn’t come from this world.

The flame figure stopped what it was doing and looked at Lin Fan with a strange look, or what seemed like a strange look since Lin Fan couldn’t actually see the face of the flame figure.
