Chapter 1479 - 1402: The Truth
"Bro, wipe your sweat." Ye Ranran pulled a few tissues from the box nearby.
Seeing her call him as usual, Wen Li’s hanging heart finally settled.
"Let’s go home," he said.
Ye Ranran stood up and followed behind him, walking slowly.
Along the way, neither of them spoke a word, and it wasn’t until they parked the car that Wen Li said, "Xiao Cai, I will always be your brother."
"Of course you’re my brother. I’m your sister, isn’t that a fact?" Ye Ranran turned her head, her eyes lively, showing no signs of harm or sadness.
The unease and hesitation—she had hidden them all so well.
"Yes, that’s a fact, one that will never change." He ruffled her hair.
That small gesture touched a chord deep in Ye Ranran’s heart, making her suddenly feel very tender inside.
She didn’t know what it meant, nor did she dwell on it.
When they got home, surprisingly, both parents were there.
The housekeepers greeted them politely as they entered.
"Mom, Dad, we’re home." Ye Ranran sat down between her parents.
The two elders, who were authoritative leaders outside, transformed into a strict father and a gentle mother at home, always exuding care for her and Wen Li in their words.
"Have you been very tired lately?" Wen Mother looked at Ye Ranran’s slightly pale face, her tone full of concern.
Ye Ranran nodded, a trace of worry evident between her brows. "Yeah, with a boss like that, how could I not be tired?"
"I heard from your brother that you want to switch departments?"
This had been something she was hesitant about initially, but now, it didn’t seem worth struggling over anymore. Whether she switched or not didn’t matter—she was leaving soon anyway.
However, what she thought and what she said didn’t quite align. "If possible, of course I would like to switch. But if it’s too troublesome, then forget it."
"Working for someone like that is always dangerous," Wen Mother said vaguely, but everyone understood her meaning.
The victor reigns supreme, and the defeated are condemned—a truth that’s never changed throughout history.
The topic had taken a heavier tone, and Ye Ranran shook her mother’s hand, saying, "Mom, I’m hungry. Let’s eat."
After dinner, Wen Li insisted on dragging Ye Ranran out for a walk. With no room to decline, she had to agree.
The two strolled through the garden, cool breezes wafting by, carrying the fragrance of lotus blossoms.
It turned out the Wen Family’s backyard had a small lake filled with lotus flowers.
Standing by the lotus pond, Ye Ranran stretched out her arms, closed her eyes, and took a deep breath: "It smells so good."
Seeing her like that, Wen Li sighed helplessly, a pampering smile on his face. "Do you still remember? You even fell in once."
How could she not remember? When she was little, she had been mischievous, and in her attempts to pick lotus flowers, she couldn’t even count how many times she’d fallen in.
"Mom and Dad even discussed filling up the pond," Ye Ranran said, reminiscing about the past. Her gentle eyes sparkled with vibrant colors as she spoke.
The breeze played with her curled hair, lifting the strands before they fell again, brushing against her neck. Her naturally fair skin, illuminated by the movements, appeared as crystal-like and translucent as ice.
"It was only because you rolled around and begged that they gave up on the idea."
"What on earth!" Ye Ranran shot him a resentful glance. "Wasn’t that your idea in the first place?"
And now he had the nerve to tease her?
Receiving Ye Ranran’s accusatory stare, Wen Li’s lips curved into a small smile. His handsome features were obscured by the twilight, yet the light in his eyes only grew brighter.
For a moment, Ye Ranran suddenly thought her brother was actually quite handsome.
