Chapter 351 - 347: The Unbearable Betrayal (3)
He is not afraid of betrayal, but why must it be her?
The whole world could betray him, except for her.
His heart had never hurt like this before—it was a kind of wrenching, agonizing pain.
He glanced at the shattered coffee cup on the floor, then bent down to pick up the pieces.
He thought she was kindly bringing him coffee, but the reality?
His grip grew tighter, shards cutting into his palm, with blood gushing down to the floor, shocking and vivid.
Yet he felt no pain, as if self-inflicting, he pressed the shards into his palm with force.
"President Land!"
Robert Williams walked in and was startled by the scene, quickly taking the shards from Asher Land’s hand and instructing the secretary to clean the office.
"President Land, I’ll take you to the hospital."
"I won’t die!" He sat heavily in the leather chair, loosened his tie, and felt something pressing heavily within him, suffocating.
Blood continued to flow from his hand, and his face grew paler; the secretary and Robert stood in the office, helpless, fearing that if it continued, he’d lose all his blood.
Robert rushed out of the office to call the doctor.
The doctor disinfected Asher Land’s hand, applied medication, bandaged it, and wrapped it in white gauze.
Robert stayed in the office, not daring to leave, just watching Asher Land sit there the entire day.
Although he did not want to expose Sophie Smith’s betrayal of Asher Land, he couldn’t bear to see Asher Land continue deceived by a woman. Having been by his side for over a decade, he knew his ambitions and his dreams; if Sophie Smith was a femme fatale, the sooner she left, the better for Asher Land.
All the lights in the company began to turn off gradually; the whole building left only the light in his office.
Suddenly, he stood up, jolting Robert alert.
"President Land, are you going home?"
Without answering Robert, he walked straight out.
Robert drove the car to him, and he got in, closed his eyes in thought. Robert couldn’t fathom his mood, but didn’t dwell on it, and drove back to the Land Family estate.
Robert glanced at Asher Land through the rearview mirror; his eyes were shut, his face pale, fatigue visibly marked. For the first time, he realized his boss was equally vulnerable—a woman had utterly shaken him.
The car stopped steadily to the side, Robert opened the door, long after, Asher Land stepped out.
Outside the house, cold winds and snow swirled together; bitterly cold, inside, however, was warm and cozy, bright lights, full heating, and a steaming hotpot on the dining table...
"Miss Smith, the young master seems to be home," Nanny Garcia noticed the car entering the villa.
Sophie Smith descended the stairs as Asher Land walked into the lobby.
Nanny Garcia took his coat, exclaimed upon seeing his hand.
"Young Master, what happened to your hand?"
Sophie Smith also came over, glancing up at him...
The collision of their gazes, Sophie Smith would never forget in her lifetime.
That gaze, sharp as if piercing the soul, as if to rip her apart, she had never seen before.
At that moment, her legs felt weak, as if startled, instinctively stepping back a pace.
