Chapter 340 - 336: The Conspiracy of Birth (6)
"What’s wrong? You don’t want to eat again?" Asher Land saw her frowning, somewhat puzzled.
"No." In order not to arouse Asher Land’s suspicion, she had no choice but to take a few bites. The food felt rather tasteless in her mouth, but even so, she swallowed it down.
She obediently finished the food in front of her, then looked at him with pleading eyes.
"I’m done eating. Can I go to my room?"
He smiled pleasantly, not expecting her to be so compliant today.
"Go ahead." He nodded in agreement.
Sophie Smith felt like she had been granted amnesty and walked upstairs, disappearing from Asher Land’s sight.
She quickly ran towards the bathroom, opened the door, and locked it behind her.
"Ugh..."
Her stomach was so fragile that it couldn’t digest even a little bit of food.
She was just about to straighten up when a wave of dizziness hit her, and she dry heaved a few more times.
"Baby, don’t make trouble, okay?" She felt a bit helpless. After staying in the bathroom for a long time and making sure she felt a bit better, she finally walked out.
She took her phone from the desk, a text message popped up.
I hope you get done with what I asked you to do soon.
Sophie Smith let out a cold laugh, "Oliver Johnson, Oliver Johnson, do you really want to leave me with no way out?"
She put the phone in her pocket, thought for a moment, but still took it out and sent him a reply.
"I need to ensure my dad’s safety."
Not even a minute later, he replied with a text message.
"Rest assured, he’s doing fine."
She glanced at it, then deleted all the text messages between her and him.
She hesitated before walking downstairs, only to find that Asher Land was no longer in the dining room.
"Nanny Garcia, where did he go?"
"Oh, the young master is in the study, he’s been very busy with work lately, he can’t finish dealing with it all every day."
Sophie naturally knew, several times he only went to bed at one or two in the morning.
"Nanny Garcia, are you making coffee?"
"Yes, it’s the young master’s order."
"Once it’s ready, I’ll take it up to him, I have nothing else to do anyway."
"Alright, I’ll trouble you with that, Miss Smith."
Sophie took the coffee from Nanny Garcia’s hands and walked upstairs.
She didn’t go directly to the third-floor study; instead, she returned briefly to the master bedroom. She placed the coffee on the table, then opened a drawer on the desk and took out a small, unlabeled bottle of pills.
She poured out a few pills and crushed them into powder.
Is she really going to do this?
Her thin body couldn’t stop trembling, this was absolutely not what she wanted to do, but, but she truly had no other choice.
"I’m sorry, I’m sorry..." she murmured, pouring the powder into the coffee.
At this moment, she loathed herself greatly. It turned out that betraying him would cause her such pain, making her feel worse than death.
She carried the coffee with heavy steps, walking towards his study one step at a time.
She thought for a long time, calming her emotions a bit before she pushed open the study door.
Asher Land thought it was Nanny Garcia entering and didn’t even lift his eyelids.
Sophie placed the coffee on his desk; Asher looked up in confusion at those slender jade-like hands.
"Why is it you bringing it up?"
"Oh, I, won’t you drink it if I bring it up?..."
"Not at all." He chuckled, thinking that since she brought it, he ought to drink more.
He picked up the coffee and gently swirled it.
Sophie’s heart was pounding with anxiety; her hands were clenched tightly into fists, hidden behind her back.
"Wait a minute!"
He was about to drink the coffee when she called out to stop him.
