Chapter 249 - 248: Vengeance Must Be Repaid (Part 2)
"Sophie, please, let us go." Jessica and Rose both lay at her feet, pleading.
They knew it was impossible for Asher Land to spare them, but Sophie was different. As long as she was willing to plead with Asher Land for them, he would definitely agree.
"Can you, can you not be so cruel?" Her voice trembled fiercely. How could two frail women like Jessica and Rose withstand such torment? If she remembered correctly, Rose was once one of his women.
How could he disregard even this bit of sentiment?
"If, if you’re punishing them because of me, then I can say that I don’t mind what they did to me. Can you please let them go?"
"They didn’t actually do anything too excessive to me. Didn’t I turn out fine in the end?"
"You can’t..."
"Enough!" Asher Land impatiently interrupted her. Damn it, why was this woman so overflowing with compassion?
"Robert, drag these people out and expel them from the Land Family."
Sophie felt relief, it seemed he had decided to spare them.
The men in black escorted the three of them directly out of the basement.
Suddenly, the large underground basement was left with only Asher Land and Sophie.
There was a smear of bright red blood on his shirt sleeve, and Sophie recalled the scene she had just witnessed, feeling a lingering fear.
Asher Land, when he went ruthless, was truly terrifying.
She stood in place, a bit at a loss. Right now, he resembled Lord Asura from Hell, making her too afraid to approach.
Asher Land knew it must have been himself who frightened her. Honestly, he feared having her see this side of him and then distancing herself.
He just wanted to approach her, but she took a step back.
He looked at the bloodstained hand and smiled self-deprecatingly.
He walked past her, heading outside.
Sophie’s legs were still a bit weak, but seeing Asher Land leave, she followed his steps without hesitation. She didn’t want to be alone in this dark, sunlight-deprived basement, not for even a second.
But how could she keep up with Asher Land’s long legs? Before long, the distance between them grew wider.
Sophie, anxious to catch up, practically trotted with her head down, and ended up bumping into a hard "object."
Asher Land was like a wall of steel, standing right in front of her.
Realizing he had seen her disheveled state, she lowered her head in embarrassment.
"So, you’re really this timid, huh." He approached her ear and whispered, probably thinking that after seeing those people’s fate today, she would have nightmares tonight.
"If you’re scared, you can tell me."
Sophie said nothing.
As expected, in front of him, she remained so stubborn.
He shook his head, took her small hand in his, and with steady steps, walked forward.
His palm was big and warm; with every step he led her through, she felt a deep sense of security.
The corridor in the basement was really, really long. It took them over ten minutes to walk out.
Only after clearly feeling the outside light did she come to her senses. She took a deep breath of the fresh outside air, her lips relaxed a little.
She couldn’t understand why the Land Family built such a place, eerie, dark, looking like a cage meant especially for imprisoning people.
But she never thought that one day in the future, she would be locked in that place by him, for a full two days and nights.
