Chapter 247 - 246 I Didn’t Throw a Tantrum at Him (Part 2)
Sophie Smith walked out of the lounge, but Julia Brown’s words to her flashed through her mind.
She said, "Sophie, many people envy your position in President Land’s heart. You should cherish it. What if one day he gets tired of this attitude towards you..."
For some reason, while everyone else was worried whether she could stay by Asher Land’s side, she seemed to use all her strength to cling to him.
She shook her head, signaling herself to stay clear-headed. Whenever she thought about this kind of issue, she found it headache-inducing.
...
Similarly, Sophie did not return to the Land Family that day, until the next morning when Nanny Garcia called.
"Nanny Garcia, is there something wrong?" Sophie asked aloud.
"Oh dear, Miss Smith, you must return to the Land Family quickly! There might be a murder!" On the other end was Nanny Garcia’s anxious and piercing voice.
"Nanny Garcia, what do you mean by ’there might be a murder’? Please explain clearly!" Sophie was also shocked, feeling confused about who could be in trouble.
"This... this is not something to explain quickly. You better come back first!"
"Okay." Sophie responded, hurriedly hung up the phone, and drove towards the Land Family.
When Sophie rushed back to the Land Family, Nanny Garcia had been waiting for her at the iron gate for quite some time.
The atmosphere at the Land Family today was particularly strange. There were eight or nine black sedans parked at the entrance, and dozens of men in black trench coats and sunglasses standing upright, surrounding the Land Family layer by layer.
"Nanny Garcia, what on earth has happened? Why is everything so grandiose?"
"Miss Smith, I don’t know where the young master brought a group of people today. He said he wanted to punish them and instructed Robert Williams to take them to the Land Family’s basement. And then..." Nanny Garcia spoke hastily, leaving Sophie confused and unsure what she was trying to convey.
"Miss Smith, please go to the basement and persuade the young master, don’t let things get out of hand and lead to murder! Although the young master can smooth things over, it’s never a good omen for such things to happen at one’s residence!"
Sophie was puzzled but followed Nanny Garcia’s suggestion to head toward the basement.
Sophie had never known that the Land Family had such a dark place.
She entered from the basement’s entrance, where a lengthy yet dark passage awaited, eerily silent. Walking alone there, she could even hear her own footsteps and breathing—chilling and terrifying, making her shiver.
She took out her phone, its faint light illuminating her path forward.
The passageway was excessively long. She believed she might never reach the end. At one point, she considered giving up and returning. But just as she was about to retreat, she heard a piercing, heart-wrenching scream that scared her so much, she dropped her phone.
Fumbling to pick up her phone, she steadied herself and cautiously proceeded forward.
After several minutes, a steel door appeared ahead, equipped with a big lock. Sophie observed that the lock was merely placed there. She hesitated, then removed the lock and stepped forward. The nearer she got, the more distinct the screams became.
"Miss Smith." A male voice echoed behind her. Her back chilled, she dared not turn around.
Robert Williams was puzzled as to how Sophie knew about this place?
"Miss Smith, you cannot stay here. Please leave immediately." Robert Williams approached Sophie and stated with a blank expression.
"Oh, it’s you." Sophie, relieved from her fright, sighed and quickly asked, "Where is Asher? Where is he?"
