Death Notice

Book 9: Chapter 31: Plan B Phase Two

“Cough, cough!” The boy in military uniform sat on the ground without any regard for his image, continuously coughing. His small face was pale, yet his expression remained very calm.

“Lieutenant Schrödinger, why are you not by the Major’s side?” Hans asked expressionlessly, his voice deep.

“Did you not notice the communication equipment was severely disrupted? Major Montana sent me to contact you!” Once he caught his breath a little, the boy returned to his cheeky, grinning self and looked at Qin Lun curiously. “Major Gerthard, how did you discover me?”

Qin Lun’s gaze swept over the boy’s cat ears and tail, and he felt a stir in his heart. Back on the Zeppelin Airship, the fat Major had once mentioned a Lieutenant Schrödinger with special abilities. But the Lieutenant had always been out on missions, so the two had never met. It seemed now that this delicate-featured cat-eared boy was him.

Lieutenant Schrödinger, like the Byron Tai brothers and Lieutenant Alhambra, was not originally a German soldier. He joined the Millennium Bug Organization after the war. During World War II, he was a young German orphan. After both his parents died in the war, parts of his memory were lost, and he even forgot his own name.

After the boy Lieutenant was enhanced into a Superhuman by Dr. Shahil, he gained a special ability. He had almost no combat power, but by observing himself, his body could become intangible at any time. He could perform phase movement within the area his consciousness could reach, being nowhere and everywhere at once.

This ability was very similar to the famous physics thought experiment “Schrödinger’s Cat.” Therefore, the boy took the physicist Schrödinger’s name as his own. In fact, during that dark period when hope for restoring the nation was lost, Lieutenant Schrödinger’s ability was the trump card Major Montana planned to use to defeat Alucard.

If Alucard released all the enslaved souls within his body as an Undead Army and started sucking blood again, Lieutenant Schrödinger would commit suicide, mixing his blood into it. Using his special ability, he would make Alucard unable to observe himself, thus getting lost among the numerous souls and losing his own sense of existence.

After regaining hope for restoring the nation, Major Montana abandoned the original war plan and did not mention this plan to Qin Lun. He only briefly introduced Lieutenant Schrödinger’s ability.
