Chapter 792. The Mages Have Arrived
Mauve stood with her right hand underneath her stomach as the main entrance of the castle opened. He had told her to stay in their room, but Mauve didn’t listen. She had argued that it was only right that the only human in the castle would welcome the new guests, and Jael didn’t have a counterargument.
She stood next to Jael as the first humans arrived, instinctively clinging to him. She didn’t know what to expect as the doors opened; all she knew was what Jael had told her from Louis’s letters.
She did know the number of humans who were expected to spend probably the next couple of months in the Vampire Regions was about ten—the ones Louis could train fast enough to face Palers.
Five humans stepped through the open doors. They looked uneasy as they walked in, immediately looking around. They clearly couldn’t see very well, and when their gaze rested on Mauve and Jael, who stood right in front of them, they stopped walking and stood awkwardly.
There was a little tension in the staring contest; the air crackled as both sides studied the other. Suddenly, Mauve stepped forward, wanting to break the ice. Jael didn’t realize what she was about to do, so he couldn’t stop her in time.
"Welcome," she announced with open arms and a heavy stomach. "Welcome to the Vampire Regions. Thank you for embarking on this most difficult expedition and for wanting to help us."
"Thank you, Princess," one of the men said and stepped forward. "My name is Farrell."
He looked more confident than the rest and didn’t miss that she was staring at her stomach. The man bowed, and the rest of the men followed suit just as Jael moved to stand beside her.
"Farrell, you’re welcome. I am sure your journey must have been tedious and you must be all tired. The servants will lead you to your rooms; please have some rest before the last meal."
The men bowed again, a few glancing awkwardly at her before the servants led them to their quarters. Mauve reached out to grab Jael, feeling a little worried, but she had to do this one more time and was determined to see it through.
