Chapter 789. Malcolm Has Arrived
It had been a full month since the midwife Madeline and the physician Ferguson arrived at the castle. Time passed faster than Mauve could keep up with it. It was finally time for the guests to make their decision, which would either decide the war against the Palers or flip it in a completely different direction.
Mauve was more anxious as the day grew closer, and Jael tried to make her not worry in more ways than one, but she knew regardless of what he said, unless she knew what the decision was, she wouldn’t feel better. Louis, on the other hand, was awfully quiet about the matter, but it was clear he was concerned.
Mauve made sure not to speak about the matter with Madeline and Ferguson during the past few days. She didn’t want to influence their decision. She had hopes that they had seen that vampires could work hand in hand with humans and the two could be beneficial to each other.
She also needed them to decide for themselves that vampires weren’t all bad and humans didn’t have to be scared of them. However, Mauve would be lying to herself if she fully believed this. She believed it was possible and she hoped one of them would at least see that too.
"I can’t believe it’s been a month already," Mauve said as she sat with Jael in his bedroom. It was theirs now as she couldn’t remember the last time she was in her room.
"You’re still worried about that," Jael said and gently caressed the side of her face as her head rested on the side of his arm.
Mauve’s stomach was much bigger now, and it wasn’t as easy to do some things. It was always funny when she tried to pick things off the ground and would have to rely on servants to help her.
"I can’t help it," she said and rested a hand on her stomach. "My brother Malcolm will be here any day now to find out the decisions they made, and that will decide whether Louis will go with him back to Greenham or we will have to figure this out ourselves."
"And I have told you that neither outcome is cause for worry." He placed his palm over hers.
Mauve jerked a little as the baby reacted. The baby moved about as though it wanted to move closer to their hands. Mauve looked up at Jael with the brightest smile ever, and he gently kissed her on the forehead.
