Chapter 788. He Keeps His Word
Jael stood as close as he could, the sunlight streaming from the open doors was almost within inches of his feet, while Mill stood back with a look of concern on her face.
However, she knew she couldn’t convince the Primus to step back, and he also insisted on leaving the door open until Mauve returned.
"You’re going to get yourself killed," a voice said from the top of the stairs.
Both Mill and Jael turned to see Louis standing in the dark, but only Mill looked surprised to see him. Jael simply had a look of disdain on his face.
"Lord Louis," Mill said with a curtsey.
Louis simply waved at her response, but he didn’t look in her direction. Mill felt her heart squeeze at this. The relationship between her and Louis was pretty strained at this point, but try as she might, there didn’t seem to be any way to remedy it.
"What are you doing here?" Jael asked with clear irritation, turning away from Louis to the doorway just in time to see Mauve as she waved at him. Jael smiled and his hand twitched to respond to her wave, but he kept it by his side.
Mauve hummed to herself as she went down the stairs with Ferguson. Now that they were away from Jael, he seemed less nervous. His grip on her hand as he helped her down the stairs was loose but firm. She said she could go down by herself, but he was adamant.
"I truly apologize for making you do something so uncomfortable," he said as they got to the bottom of the stairs, letting go of her hand.
"I already told you there is nothing to worry about," Mauve said and rested her hands on her waist as she looked around.
"Still, your brother, the crown prince of Greenham would scold me if he heard about this."
