The Vampire King's Possession

Chapter 688. A Done Deal

Mauve shuffled in her seat as she sat for the second meal. The tension was palpable, and the air almost seemed to crackle. Most people appeared unbothered, but Mauve was on high alert as the servants served her meal. It was the second meal of the day, and the Levatons and Garths were seated together.

Lady Francine and Lady Marceline were both conveniently absent, and Mauve wondered if the conversation with Jael had anything to do with it, as no excuse was offered this time.

Mauve barely got any stares from Jevera or her father as she sat down, but the Garths wouldn’t stop looking at her. From Sabrina’s little sister, Helena, to their mother, Arora, and their father, Lord Garth. Lord Garth’s eyes held intense disapproval as he gazed at Mauve.

The only time he looked away from her was when Jael started speaking, asking about their journey and whether they had encountered any difficulties. Lord Garth was slow to reply, but when he eventually spoke, there was no trace of the malice he had directed at Mauve.

"It wasn’t the smoothest," he said with a thin smile that didn’t reach his eyes, "but thankfully, we didn’t run into any Palers and got here without a hitch."

"That’s wonderful," Jael said. He looked like he wanted to speak more on the matter but decided against it.

Aside from the glares, the second meal was bearable, and by the time Mauve was done with her meal, she was exhausted and wanted to flee the dining hall. How was she supposed to exude any sort of confidence when she had vampires glaring at her in this manner?

At least the Garths were decent enough not to say anything, even though it was pretty clear what they thought. She could only imagine that when they spoke to Jael privately, they would likely let all hell loose. Mauve was grateful she wouldn’t be there to witness it.

Sabrina met her eyes and smiled, then mischievously turned to look at Jevera. It took the red-haired vampire a few seconds to notice, but when she did, her gaze darkened, and she shot both of them glares.
