Instead, he reverted back into his human form—his silver hair majestic, cascading like a stream of starlight, while his white runic eyes glowed faintly, as if they were carved with all the known and unknown concepts of this vast universe.
Once fully formed, he raised his gaze and looked directly at the being he believed to be Shadow, offering a slow, knowing smile.
“I’m honored that you know my name. But I think you’re misunderstanding something, dear father-in-law.”
“I simply wanted to say that I’ll take good care of Ebony and Sylphira… as their big brother figure, of course,” he added, nodding to himself with false humility, utterly satisfied with the nonsense he just uttered.
Shadow didn’t flinch. His expression didn’t shift, but his eyes—his eyes spoke clearly. They said: I don’t believe a single word that came out of your mouth.
“I’ve observed you long enough, Noah Vaelgrim,” he said calmly, with a tone that carried weight only ancient beings could truly wield.
Noah’s response came with that same annoying ease, “Then I bet you’ve only heard good things about me, right? Come on, admit it—you’re impressed. I mean, you must be thrilled I’m your son-in-law.”
Shadow’s stare lingered for a second too long, and then… he chuckled, softly. Amused.
Because never, never in all his existence, did he think he would meet someone not even at the Law Creator rank who dared to speak to him like this. And yet, he wasn’t surprised.
