Chapter 131: System Malfunction
Liora jumped off its back and landed on her knees, barely able to stay upright. Her hands trembled. Her shoulder was bleeding badly. One eye was nearly swollen shut.
But she stood again.
The tiger let out a low groan. It tried to move—but its limbs no longer responded. Because the remaining life force was drained by the shadows deeply. When she was busy weakening him and the tiger was fighting back, the shadows did not stop their work; they quickly drained his life force, because that was the only way they could help Liora... Their attack was practically useless against such a high-level beast when they were just souls of low-level mutated insects.
The tiger’s chest rose and fell unevenly now. His once furious gaze had dulled, but there was still something left there—a sliver of defiance, a wild refusal to give up even in death. His jaw trembled, a weak snarl bubbling from his throat.
Liora walked forward and placed her hand on its forehead. Her fingers trembled as she looked down at the beast.
"You were strong," she whispered. "But I can’t let you live. Only the strongest survive."
The soul shadows swarmed over her.
Liora suddenly focused on its almost flickering soul, which was now too weak to resist her advancement. She was able to absorb the soul in one move.
The beast let out one last growl, and then it was over. He finally breathed his last breath.
Silence returned to the forest.
Liora stepped back, her legs nearly giving out. She fell to one knee, breathing heavily. Her wounds throbbed with each passing second, but she felt her smile becoming bigger and bigger. Finally she was able to kill such a high-level mutated beast, and with its help she can absorb more powerful souls in the future. Liora’s eyes glinted with determination and a confident smile.
