Chapter 68: The Boy with Blue Eyes
Liora hurriedly took out her Hummer from the space and placed it at a distance from the burned car. It wasn’t too far, just enough to make it seem like it had belonged to the family. She made sure it was parked in a way that didn’t look suspicious. It needed to look like it had been there all along.
She rubbed some dirt on the shiny surface. Under the bright sunlight, the vehicle looked new. Only now she noticed it was still smeared with blood from a previous zombie fight. She hadn’t seen it clearly at night, but now the dried stains looked obvious and messy. She made a note in her heart to clean it properly later. But for now, this worked better. It helped her sell the story.
After double-checking everything, she turned back to where she had come from.
She ran fast. It did not take much time to find them as they hadn’t gone that far. She reached the trio who were still searching the area nearby. She waved her hand and called them over with urgency. "I found one!" she said, panting. "There’s a vehicle, and it seems to be perfectly fine and working too."
The moment those words left her mouth, the tired faces of the three instantly lit up.
Chen Wei let out a smile, his shoulders relaxing at the thought of travelling in the vehicle. "That’s amazing!" Now they don’t have to walk on their legs anymore. At first, he doubted that they would encounter any vehicle because more people are faster than them. But Liora’s words made him happy that maybe their luck this time is not that bad at all.
Liang Zihan’s eyes widened. "Seriously? Thank God! I was beginning to think we’d have to walk to the next city!"
Zhou Yinuo didn’t say anything at first, but her expression softened. A small smile touched her lips. She clapped Liora gently on the shoulder and said, "Good job."
They were so caught up in the joy of finally having a working vehicle that none of them noticed the sadness in Liora’s voice. She had spoken with a heavy tone, but their minds were already racing with thoughts of safety and convenience. Hope had returned to their faces, even if only for a moment.
