Chapter 898
Chapter 898
Anton told his father and sister that his Diablo System had rewarded him for recreating a standard spell using one of his Diablo II character's spells as the foundation.
“What reward?” Anna asked.
“My system allowed me to transfer any item I wanted from the single-player game into the real world,” Anton replied.
“Single-player? Your best items are there!” Anna exclaimed.
Anton nodded happily.
“What item are you planning to transfer?” his father asked.
“I’m planning to complete my collection of charms.”
“How many charms can you stack?” Anna asked.
Since Anders and Anna had started playing the multiplayer mode of Anton’s Diablo II, they had become familiar with most of the game’s mechanics.
“Only as many as a character can fit in a regular inventory. I thought that since my Diablo System gave me a modified inventory and storage chest, I’d be able to stack as many charms as I wanted, but apparently the system has a limit. At least I can still enjoy three sets of charms—one in the single-player game, one in multiplayer, and one in reality.”
Anna looked at Anton enviously. At the moment, she and Anders could only enjoy two sets of gear: one in the multiplayer game and one in reality. Over the years, Anton had given them many powerful Diablo items and intended to continue doing so. However, both Anders and Anna insisted that they wanted to earn the items themselves, since reaching the maximum level during a ladder season allowed them to transfer those rewards into reality.
Although they were originally limited to creating only one character, Anna had discovered a loophole. Once they reached the maximum level, transferred the character’s stats and items to the real world, and as long as the ladder season was still active, they could delete the character and create a new one. If they reached the maximum level again, they could claim the rewards once more.
According to Anna’s calculations, if they focused entirely on leveling during a ladder season, they could complete as many as three characters. Any more than that would be pushing it.
“More than likely, it’ll be fewer than three since your sister and I have responsibilities we can’t neglect just to play the game,” Anders said with a sigh.
“Even so, you should make time during ladder season. It isn’t just a game anymore—it’s a way to increase your personal strength,” Anton said.
Both Anders and Anna nodded in agreement.
Anton told them that the next ladder season would begin in a couple of months. The news excited Anna since it meant she would be able to play with her online friends again.
After meeting with his father and sister, Anton returned to his daily routine. He completed the daily quests for his Diablo Immortal character, searched the single-player version of Diablo II for the best charms to transfer into the real world, spent time with his friends, and continued thinking of another standard spell he could recreate using his Diablo II spells.
The next spell he considered was one of the most basic wizard cantrips: Light.
Although Anton could use Fire Bolt as a light source and had even created an enchanted item based on it that functioned like a magical lantern, he did not possess an actual Light spell.
Using Fire Bolt for illumination was somewhat dangerous because an accident could easily start a real fire.
Oddly enough, Anton had never memorized the Light cantrip. Fortunately, he still had the spellbook in his inventory. Looking back, collecting nearly every standard spellbook in New Drennor had been one of the best decisions he had ever made.
After memorizing the Light spell, Anton carefully studied its mana structure. After some consideration, he concluded that the Sorceress's Charge Bolt spell would serve as the best foundation. He modified Charge Bolt’s mana structure until it faithfully replicated that of the Light spell.
It took Anton an entire week of hard work to complete the recreation.
When he finally saw the spell appear under the General Spell tab of his Sorceress character, he was giddy with excitement.
There were now two spells listed there: Light and Cleaning.
Both could only have a single skill point, yet when they appeared in the Diablo System, each already possessed that point. That meant Anton did not have to spend the valuable skill points earned from leveling his characters.
It made perfect sense. Since he had already learned the spells and could cast them, the system automatically considered them mastered.
Like the Cleaning spell, the Light spell did not consume a fixed amount of mana. Anton could invest as little or as much mana as he desired, depending on how bright he wanted the light to be and how long he wanted it to last.
The spell also allowed him to anchor the light to a fixed location or have it hover nearby. Much of the complexity of the spell’s mana structure came from supporting those options.
Anton waited patiently for his Diablo System to reward him for recreating the spell.
At first, he wondered whether the system would grant no reward because Light was one of the most basic spells imaginable. However, after a short while, the familiar notification appeared, informing him that he could transfer another item into the real world.
Without hesitation, he transferred a Grand Charm that granted bonuses to Cold Skills and Life from his single-player inventory into reality.
Fortunately, because he had recently gone on a charm-hunting spree, he had accumulated a surplus of valuable charms.
Not long after Anton completed the Light spell, the ship’s Cosplay Event finally began.
Anton wore the same costume he had used during the cosplay convention on the island where the ship Amelia had previously docked.
Unfortunately, although his friends insisted that his costume was among the best, he was disqualified from participating in any of the contests.
One thing Anton had to admit was that young nobles certainly knew how to throw a party.
The cosplay convention aboard the ship was a grand and lively affair.
Everyone enjoyed it immensely, and several of his friends were thrilled to learn that the event would last for three days.
Anton and his friends did everything they could to make the most of the convention. Since their parents had not been invited, they felt free to enjoy themselves without restraint.
When Anton asked the organizers why only his friends had received tickets while their families had been excluded, everyone he spoke to simply redirected him to someone else. Eventually, he grew tired of being passed around and gave up, apologizing to his friends instead.
“Actually, we’re happy our families weren’t invited. They weren’t willing to spend that much on tickets anyway,” Paul whispered.
Paul explained that everyone felt the same way. Without their parents around, they had far more freedom to enjoy the event.
On the final day of the convention, the awards ceremony was held.
Unfortunately, Eric was the only member of Anton’s group who won anything, earning a prize for his Ent costume.
Paul and several of the others complained that the competitions had been rigged because most of the winners were nobles.
Anton listened without arguing and outwardly appeared to agree. In truth, however, he believed the winners deserved their victories. They genuinely had the finest costumes, the best booths, the strongest group entries, and the highest overall production quality.
The nobles simply had the wealth and resources to create superior displays.
Eric’s victory stood out because his Ent costume had been exceptionally creative.
In the end, however, Anton thought the true winners of the cosplay convention were the merchants.
They had probably earned a fortune from the passengers.
As a result of the convention, the movies became even more popular aboard the ship. The next films being shown were the Star Wars movies, and before long, Star Wars enthusiasts began appearing everywhere, including both young nobles and young commoners.
