My Favorite Game Followed Me!

Chapter 779

Chapter 779

Nene, with the help of her brother, Marcus, prepared meat stew that night. It had been quite some time since the last time the family ate meat, and the siblings were looking forward to eating the stew once their mother and father arrived.

Marcus and Nene’s parents were still quite young and vigorous, being in their mid-forties. That was the main reason why their family was still doing alright compared to some of their neighbors. The fact that all the members of their family worked meant they never lacked food, despite the town having far fewer resources than it had before the Undead Coalition attacked.

Nene chose a stew that required a lengthy cook time since, aside from being more delicious than regular stew, they thought the food would be ready by the time their parents were home.

By the time the stew was ready, it was very late, but Marcus and Nene’s parents still weren’t home. They did not worry too much because it did happen sometimes that they would be home later than usual, but after waiting for another hour, their parents were still not home.

Suddenly, they heard a frantic knocking on their door.

“Marcus! Nene! Are you there?” the person outside shouted.

Marcus immediately opened the door. He recognized the man’s voice. It was Frison, one of the people working in the field, together with their parents.

“Ghouls attacked the field where your parents and I are working! Everyone managed to run towards the barn and barricaded themselves inside it. I managed to escape since I was near the roads and thankfully, the ghouls didn’t notice me!”

“Where are the wizards!” Marcus asked.

“All of them are busy in other fields dealing with other undead. More powerful undead attacked the fields. If no one comes to their rescue, all the farmers will be killed by the ghouls!”

“Nene, stay here!” Marcus suddenly told his sister.

“Where are you going!”

“I’m going to Devin and ask for his help!”

“I’ll come with you.”

Marcus did not bother with his sister anymore and ran towards the warehouse where Devin and his parents were still probably busy selling all the game they had hunted. Even though it was late at night, the streets were still bright with magic lights.

Ever since the Undead Coalition’s attack, Amendora and all the surrounding towns have never been dark again. The wizards made sure that every place was lit up by magic lights once the sun set. Darkness was the ally of the undead; they usually utilize the dark effectively against humans. Before, when street lights were being turned off late at night, the undead caused massive deaths inside cities and towns. At least when the towns and cities were bright, the attacks would usually be discovered in time.

Even with the lighted streets, both Marcus and Nene could feel the terror of the night. They had heard rumors of the undead managing to enter the town and attacking those who remained outside their homes. The siblings would have liked to think that it was just some sort of stories that the authorities propagate to make sure that the town folks would follow the curfew that was set up inside the town, but unfortunately, both of them had seen the bodies of the victims of the undead that managed to enter the town, despite the considerable defenses the town folks were utilizing to protect the town, with the help of the wizards from Nermador.

Marcus could hear his sister praying while they were rushing off towards the warehouse where Devin and his parents were staying. He suddenly thought of what Devin had said to the siblings earlier. Devin told them that he and his parents were planning to journey towards the kingdom of Remnok, far to the east, after they had sold all of their hunted game, to run away from the chaos that the Undead Coalition had brought to the continent.

He decided that he would be Devin and his parents, to his knees, even, to bring their family with them when they left. Marcus’s parents agreed with him that sooner or later, their town, just like all the other towns nearby, would be destroyed by the undead.

Unfortunately, the supposedly powerful wizards of Nermador were busy defending their precious city and could not help the surrounding towns. Even their town, which was the last remaining town near Nermador, was only protected by ten wizards on eight-hour shifts, and Marcus, just like the other townspeople, believed that the number of wizards was simply not enough.

When the siblings arrived at the warehouse where Devin and his parents conducted their business, both of them felt extremely grateful that even though it appeared that Devin’s father was closing down the warehouse, they managed to reach them while they were still there. Marcus actually did not know where Devin and his parents were staying.

“Sir, please! Can I speak with Devin?” Marcus rushed to Delfin.

“You’re Marcus and Nene, right? Devin’s friends?”

When Marcus nodded, Delfin invited them inside the warehouse. The siblings saw that the warehouse was now empty, which meant that the adventurers had sold off all their meat and would probably leave the next day. No one wanted to stay in this town longer than necessary.

Devin was assisting his mother in counting the coins they earned. When Devin saw Marcus and Nene, he walked towards them.

“What happened?”

“Devin, can you and your wolves help us? Our parents are farmers, and we received news that the fields were attacked by ghouls. They managed to barricade themselves in the barn, but we don’t know if they could survive until the wizard arrives to help them,” Marcus pleaded.

Marcus knew that his request was unreasonable. They had no coins to pay Devin and his parents. He saw Devin’s parents’ surprise at his request. Delfin and Eva would have normally immediately denied helping the two young people since they were not devoted priests who would help anyone without receiving payments, but they remained silent, allowing their son to decide. Devin was silent, though, and instead of looking at Marcus, Devin was looking at his sister.

“Once I rescue your parents, I will ask them for your sister’s hand in marriage,” Devin said, not taking his eyes off Nene.

Nene, despite looking extremely worried for her parents, blushed.

‘I’ll marry you, if you rescue our parents and bring us with you when you leave!” Nene said, which greatly startled Marcus.

Delfin and Eva were flabbergasted and stared at both their son and Nene.

“Father, mother, I’ll help them with the wolves. I’ll meet you later at the inn,” Devin said to his parents.

Delfin nodded while Eva just said “be careful” to her son. Devin suddenly whistled, and both dire wolves who were sitting by the door stood up and went near him. Devin climbed on top of one of the wolves, and he asked Devin to ride on top of the other one. Nene wanted to go with them.

“The wolf would have difficulty carrying two people. Please go with my parents instead and wait for news,” Devin said.

Delfin and Eva just smiled. The dire wolf was gigantic and extremely strong. It would not have any problem carrying two people in its back, but they understood that Devin wanted to keep Nene safe.

Eva went to her prospective daughter-in-law and hugged her to comfort her.

“Don’t worry too much, dear. Our wolves were given to us by an extremely powerful, supreme rank wizard and could definitely rescue your parents. Let’s go to our inn and talk there while we wait for them to return.”

Devin and Marcus, riding the two dire wolves, rushed off towards where the fields were located, with Marcus pointing the way to Devin.
