Chapter 772
Chapter 772
“Your name is Anton, right? I saw in my magic item that regardless of your strength, you are as young as you look. I advise against going to Amendora. The Undead Coalition had been relentless in attacking that kingdom, since everyone knew that once it fell, the other side of the Rendindura continent would be theirs for the taking. That meant that countless wizards who’ve gone there had died,” Oswald told Anton.
“Most wizards who go there were the ones who stayed in this continent and only had revenge on their minds. Just like countless people in this continent, they had loved ones who had been killed and tortured by the coalition and chose to fight till the end. I respect their choice. If I had the power, I would have gone there as well,” The woman beside Oswald said.
“My father is already part of the army that’s fighting the coalition in the Gale Continent. Because of a unique circumstance, the wizards there are not allowing me to fight and want me to stay safe inside Ormunda. I don’t want to be a protected flower. I have grand ambitions that I want to reach, but those could only be fulfilled if the Undead Coalition is out of the picture. Since I have the power, I might as well use it to start fighting them here, and maybe there will be a chance that I can be part of the group that can target them at their root.”
“Most of us here had long lost hope that we could rid ourselves of the sickness of the land that is the coalition. At first, we also had hope, but the Undead Coalition is too powerful and ambitious, and their movement is too quick. In less than two years, they conquered half of Rendindura and began attacking three other continents. I just feel despair when I think about them,” Oswald said quietly in an almost contemplative manner.
“I feel the same. I even imagined a scenario wherein the whole world had been conquered by the undead, and the city where I’m at will be the only surviving city, and that my daily life will be defending the last bastion of humanity against the undead. Still, I don’t want to lose hope. I want to fight as long as there’s a glimmer of hope remaining. Right now, it seemed like Amendora is that glimmer in this continent. I know that my powers, considerable as you think they maybe is just a small matter to something as huge as the Undead Coalition; there are instances wherein small things have proven that large things could be done. There’s a saying that “The man who removes a mountain begins by carrying away small stones”. I want to try being one of those men who will start removing small stones.”
“I understand. If I’m young and as powerful as you, I might do the same, but then again, with my thinking, I would most likely just stay in that powerful kingdom you mentioned and live my life as best as I could while not stopping in increasing my power, so by the time the undead reach my doorway, I would be able to do something about it,” Oswald said.
“At one point, I did think the same, since when I saw how gigantic New Drennor and Ormunda are and how they are filled with countless powerful wizards, there is no way the Undead Coalition would be able to conquer them. But then, the coalition managed to conquer almost a third of New Drennor’s territory. I know that it happened because the powerful beings there were complacent and that they had now started to retaliate. I received information that wizards from both the Kingdom of Ormunda and New Drennor would be able to take back the territory that the undead had conquered and drive them away from New Drennor. Still, there is doubt. When I learned about the Transport Gate, I decided to bring my fight here. Besides, as I’ve mentioned, because of the scroll from Ormundan Wizards, I can return to the Gale Continent anytime I want.”
“So be it,” Oswald declared.
The information broker then provided a map to Anton and taught him how to get to Amendora the quickest way possible. Amendora was actually so far away from this desert kingdom. Based on the map that Oswald had provided, the kingdom was a month's travel by horseback from this Desert kingdom, more if they stopped in the towns and villages and other kingdoms on the way there.
Oswald advised Anton that it would be better if he hired someone to guide him to Amendora. It would cost him a pretty penny, but then again, a guide would help him not get lost along the way.
Anton’s way of travel, which was a combination of flying using his Telekinesis spell and the Teleport spell, would save a lot of traveling time, but the issue was that he simply did not know the way.
He asked the information broker to find him the best guide or guides. Oswald asked for payment for his assistance, so Anton handed Oswald a few gold coins.
Oswald nodded to his cohorts, and both the voluptuous woman and the muscular man left, possibly to find the guide that Anton requested. In the meantime, Oswald continued telling him about the situation in Rendindura. Most of the things that Oswald told him were hair-raising, even for someone like Anton, who was used to unique ideas because of his love of reading fantasy and science fiction novels. Apparently, the Coalition had several systems in place to raise specific undead, and those systems were truly horrifying. Unfortunately for the people of the conquered kingdoms in Rendindura, half of them had experienced those things so that the coalition could turn them into different types of undead.
There was a time when Anton thought that there would be an instance when the Coalition would be accepted by the world and that in every kingdom, undead creatures would become part of the population. Some novels had those types of themes wherein humans were coexisting peacefully together with vampires, ghouls, wraiths, liches, and all sorts of undead, but based on what Oswald had said, that kind of situation would be impossible to happen. It seemed to Anton that the Undead Coalition was simply mad. It seemed to him that the coalition had only one desire. To turn the whole world into a world governed by the undead, and that the living would be nothing more than slaves or food.
That solidified the fact that the living beings in this world would have to treat the Undead Coalition as something that needed to be destroyed until not a glimmer of their existence remained.
Soon, Oswald's colleagues returned, followed by three people. A couple who looked to be in their mid-thirties and a young man. Anton saw that Oswald knew the three people and immediately introduced them to him.
“This is Delfin, his wife, Eva, and their son, Devin. Delfin and Eva had been adventurers most of their lives, and their young son, who is the same age as you, also became an adventurer. They would be able to guide you to Amendora.”
Oswald then introduced Anton to the family of adventurers. Delfin started talking to him about the amount they require for them to bring him to Amendora. What surprised Anton was that they only wanted three hundred gold coins. It seemed a tiny amount to him, but then again, maybe because of the situation in Rendindura that allowed the coins to have a very high rate. He agreed with their price and immediately gave half the amount. The next half would be given to them once they reached the vicinity of Amendora. The three adventurers would only bring him to the nearest town before reaching the kingdom of Amendora. Apparently, they were not willing to enter Amendora itself.
