Chapter 809 - 809: Juggernaut III
Tang Ziyi moved first and quickly reloaded a fresh magazine.
Fast.
She kicked the PKM away and rolled the corpse over with her foot.
Her eyes narrowed.
Explosives.
Enough to collapse the entire hallway.
She finally confirmed the abnormality behind the man seemingly pulling items out of nowhere.
She had only seen such a phenomenon once before—in Ling Qingyu's storage bracelet.
Tang Ziyi roughly understood how the man performed the trick. Not the details, but the underlying principle should have been similar.
She also realized how the nonstop detonations and continuous PKM fire had been possible.
This bastard might have been switching between multiple PKMs from storage every time one overheated toward destruction.
Tang Ziyi immediately grabbed the detonation mechanism and violently ripped apart the wiring.
Had this man been more prepared, Tang Ziyi reckoned the only solution would have required Spirit Fox to expose their supernatural strength openly, likely at the cost of severe militia commando casualties.
Fortunately, the assault had been hard and fast.
A complete blitzkrieg.
And the Spirit Fox operators had overwhelmed the enemy before he could stabilize the situation.
Tang Ziyi gestured toward a Spirit Fox sister, then knelt to remove the helmet and inspect the man's features.
Puff! Puff!
Tang Ziyi's hands twitched as she glared at her partner, who merely shrugged and chuckled.
"Deadcheck. Control."
Shaking her head, Tang Ziyi laughed in annoyance while cleaning the blood stains on her attire.
"You better pray that I forget your deeds tonight soon."
"Hehe, Instructor."
Just then, a figure suddenly dashed out from a hidden spot.
The partner was startled and instinctively fired two rounds into the figure, causing it to tumble down with a painful moan.
When she was about to place another round into the head, she abruptly stopped.
It was a woman.
And the figure seemed to be crawling only toward the HVT's corpse, completely ignoring their existence.
She mumbled inaudible words that neither Tang Ziyi nor the operator understood.
"This…" the operator muttered guiltily.
This was the first time Spirit Fox had fired upon the wrong target—a genuine collateral casualty.
In past operations, none of them had ever made such a mistake, and they had taken pride in that.
Tang Ziyi didn't blame the girl.
One moment she had been teasing her teammate, and the next she needed to comfort her instead. Tang Ziyi chuckled inwardly at the irony.
After all, visibility had been poor, and the rapid engagement had conditioned them to expect armed men bursting from every shadow.
This Spirit Fox sister being overly proactive was a natural result.
Nobody wanted to hear "Allahu Akbar" before getting blown into the sky.
By then, perhaps only Spirit Fox members protected by talismans would survive.
Tang Ziyi believed she would have reacted the same way to eliminate any possible threat.
Tang Ziyi watched the struggling woman stretch out her hand toward the dead man and weakly grasp his fingers.
She even revealed a relieved smile.
Gradually, her voice slowed until silence followed.
Nobody spoke.
Tang Ziyi patted her partner on the shoulder in comfort.
"You did what you had to do. We couldn't gamble on whether she was wearing a suicide vest. Even with our reaction speed, it wouldn't be enough. Besides… this might be the best ending for her. Don't think too much."
Though saddened, the operator nodded.
From the woman's actions, everyone understood she had been the man's lover. A formal lover in the dens of terrorists. Her fate, better or worse, only fate knew. Perhaps, Instructor Tang was right. She might be even doing good deeds for her.
Her fellow Spirit Fox sisters quietly comforted the operator.
Tang Ziyi clapped her hands and issued orders.
"Mission complete. Commence SSE and secondary clearance. Go."
The surrounding operators secured every angle while covering nearby rooms.
The militia fighters also moved to assist.
Silence slowly returned, broken only by movement and the collection of electronic devices.
Anything— Hardware. PCs. Hard drives.
Only ringing ears remained as a token of the rough battlefield among the militias.
Dust drifted through flashlight beams.
The hallway looked devastated beyond recognition.
Walls cratered.
Doors shredded.
Blood and broken furniture scattered everywhere.
One militia commando muttered shakily, "What the hell was he…?"
No one answered. They didn't have the time to think much since the surrounding battlefield had heated up from militant reinforcements.
They hastened their movements, listening to bursts of distant yet close gunfire. Tracers and muzzle flashes lit up the dark neighborhood as their eyes captured the scenes through windows and openings.
"Hotel 1… Status?"
"HVT KIA. Commencing SSE. Ensure the perimeter is safe and secure. Prepare for extraction," Tang Ziyi responded.
"Roger that."
Ahmin had woken up from her stupor and snapped around with fright. She was relieved to see everybody working on something, suggesting the terrible battle had ended.
"Wake up?" Tang Ziyi teased. "I didn't see external wounds. You might have to get detailed checks later for internal injuries."
"I'm fine," Ahmin replied. "I'm glad that we fought together. Otherwise, I dare not imagine how helpless we would become if your group hadn't sponsored us."
Tonight's destruction alarmed her. If this type of heavy infantry was mass-produced, her tribe would suffer genocide.
Yes, she didn't put much trust in the World Government's adherence to principles of human rights and protection. Living in a chaotic region, she strongly believed might made right.
Fortunately, her nightmare was totally opposite to reality. She didn't believe that, given such support, her people wouldn't rise.
"What's the matter with her?" Ahmin asked.
"Who?"
"Her." Ahmin pointed at the operator who seemed to be in a bad mood. She noted the difference because GSS operators usually carried lively energy, eyes filled with hope and strong belief that they were righteous.
"Oh, her," Tang Ziyi sneered. This girl would find her own path and belief soon enough. No need to interfere too much. "She sent a loving couple to meet their God."
"Huh? God?" Ahmin was stunned, but then realized what Tang Ziyi meant when she followed her gaze.
She found the heavy infantry she feared had his palm grasped by another still woman. Two corpses. One terrifying, while the other looked pure and saintly.
"She killed someone by mistake? Is that why she's upset?"
"Yes. Nobody blames her."
"I understand." Ahmin immediately pieced together the likely scenario. Everything happened too fast. The fog of war. Who would expect an innocent to run directly toward danger?
"Alright, focus on your girls. Comfort them. They seem terrified tonight," Tang Ziyi joked before returning to seriousness. "Commander Ahmin, we are leaving in five minutes. Get them ready. They need you."
