Chapter 90: Did he recognize you as the president?
Denis’s frown returned, more profound this time. "What is he doing with them?" he muttered under his breath, his mind struggling to process what he was seeing.
The idea that Augustine, that nerd, that nobody, could have any connection with the mayor, let alone the president of the Sphere Group, was absurd. "No..." He shook his head, his expression darkening. "It has to be a coincidence."
Yet, the sight of them standing together, speaking in low voices, made his stomach churn with unease. He stood rooted to the spot, caught between disbelief and the urge to step forward.
Before he could make up his mind, the man in the grey suit began walking away, his assistant following closely behind.
It took Denis a moment to snap out of his daze. He hurried forward, calling out, "Mr. Benett!"
But the man didn’t stop. He didn’t even acknowledge him, continuing down the hall as if he hadn’t heard someone calling him.
Instead, two other people turned to face him—Augustine and Gustave.
Gustave leaned slightly toward his boss, lowering his voice in concern, "Did he recognize you as the president?"
Augustine remained silent, his expression unreadable.
Denis caught up, his gaze flickering between the two men before shifting back toward the corridor where the president had disappeared. His jaw clenched as frustration bubbled inside him.
When the president and his assistant finally turned a corner and vanished from sight, Denis refocused his attention on Augustine, sizing him up with a mixture of suspicion and contempt.
