Chapter 39: Oh, I am gonna kill him.
In the darkness, they could not make out each other’s faces, just vague shapes. Despite this, Mei Mei could tell that the woman was going to scream. Reacting quickly, she grabbed the cleaning lady and put a hand over her mouth.
From childhood, she had been taught how to fight so she knew how to put a full grown human to sleep with ease. In addition to that, one of the things she had taken from home when she left the Jun family was a smart watch.
It had been given to her by her mother on her fourteenth birthday. The watch could emit a vapor that could make someone unconscious. She pushed a tiny button and the vapor went up the cleaner’s nose.
The woman went limp in her arms, Mei Mei put her down on the ground gently and escaped according to her plan. When her feet touched the ground in a small dark alley, she sett off in a run and vanished into a confused crowd of shoppers that had come out of the shopping center that had lost power.
She walked for twenty minutes, stopped a self driving taxi and left the area. When she was safely back in the bedroom, she turned off the EMP.
Mei Mei’s heart started to calm down as she sat down on her bed. She still couldn’t believe that she had pulled off such a risky adventure. If she had not listened to her father narrating some of the things her mother had been up to over the years like climbing in and out of buildings to arrest spies and traitors to the empire over the years, she would have hesitated to sneak into that office.
Mei Mei’s hand hovered over her phone, she wanted to call her mother and tell her what she had done. Before she could swipe her mother’s number and make that call, she recalled the look in her mother’s eyes on the day she left home.
That look of disappointment and betrayal made Mei Mei hesitate. She would call when she had fixed the mistake which she had made.
Only then could she face her mother.
