Just as Alanis had expected, the news of Harlow Blackwood becoming the new CEO of Hamilton Corp spread through the city like wildfire. People couldn’t stop talking about it, though most were left speechless at first, their shock quickly turned into whispers, rumors, and outright disbelief.
Harlow Blackwood?
The name rolled off their tongues with scorn. How could Alanis Hamilton, one of the sharpest minds in business, step down for someone like her? It didn’t make sense. The only explanation, they said, was that she must have bewitched him.
This was truly the downfall of the Hamilton’s empire. Harlow was a known reject, there is a reason her father had publicly disowned her in the first place. Why would the Hamiltons accept such a person? Not to think of making her the CEO of the prestigious company.
"There’s no way he willingly stepped down for her," one voice echoed in the sea of gossip.
"She’s nothing but a failed wife, a failed daughter, a failed woman." sneered another.
"She embarrassed him once already, what kind of man gives her another chance? She doesn’t deserve it." Another employee said a deep frown marred her face.
To most, Harlow was a joke. They didn’t see a capable woman standing beside Alanis. All they saw was the remnants of his past mistakes. In their eyes, she was nothing but a shallow, spoiled daughter of the Blackwood family, someone who had always been in her sister Claudia’s shadow.
"She’s not even smart," someone scoffed. "Everyone knows Claudia’s the brains of the family. Harlow? She’s just... there."
