Chapter 47 – Do you want to be replaced?
Alex couldn’t shake the suspicions gnawing at his heart that Logan knew something about what happened to Joanna but lacked proof. How else could he make such a daring proposal?
If only Alex knew exactly what Logan did with his phone a while ago, or who he communicated with, he might have been able to piece things together.
Perhaps the delivery guy held the answers he sought, but for now, he had to keep his composure. With all eyes on him, his expression remained stern, and his words resolute.
"She’s not at the office but already on her way here. She will soon join us, so let’s proceed," Alex declared confidently, in case the elders tried to get information about Joanna’s whereabouts from the office.
Logan was torn, wondering if taking Mia’s words into action was the right thing to do. Joanna was indeed not in the office, so could it be true that she was on her way? Alex seemed sure of the situation.
Mia’s confession about lacing Joanna’s food with sedatives gave him a nudge. Perhaps Alex kept Joanna elsewhere, for which reason he was certain that she wasn’t there.
Or, was he aware of what happened and was covering up for her? He just had to find out.
"Alex, we are not children here. If your wife is on the way, then why have you not received or made a single call since you arrived? Don’t you care for her?" Logan challenged, studying Alex’s composure, which refused to give way to confirmation of Logan’s thoughts.
Alex realized where he had faltered in the plan, but he was not one to admit defeat easily. "What I do with my wife is none of your business."
