Chapter 32 – Joanna Survived
Monica had no choice but to trust him with the things she couldn’t tell Joanna, not because she enjoyed hiding things from her, but because of the psychological trauma.
"She’s dead," she revealed with a bitter smile, tears streaming down her cheeks. Alex picked up a tissue and handed it to her, wondering how she could be crying and smiling at the same time.
It might have been a bitter smile, but he couldn’t help being puzzled, asking, "How?"
Monica narrated the story to him. "Five years ago, I received news that Enzo died in a crossfire with some gangs. That’s when I found out he worked for Salvadore."
Alex’s heart sank. Who knew that his secret identity would come back to haunt him? Most of the work was not done by him but rather by his men, most of whom didn’t know his true identity.
Strange as it seemed, his palms were wet with sweat from the revelation, showing how nervous he was.
"Where did you get this information?"
"From the news," Monica revealed. Alex relaxed a little. A lot of lies were spread in the news by the media these days, so it might not be what he was thinking, but Monica’s words were piercing.
"Salvadore is heartless. I don’t know what caused Enzo’s death, but Salvadore’s men found us. I tried to protect my children, but Nancy came out of hiding and was taken away. I heard gunshots and her screams after she was taken away, while one of his men restrained me."
