Chapter 25 – Weekly Allowance
The question caused Alexander’s gaze to harden. "Don’t forget that this marriage is just a contract. Five months and a few weeks, and we shall go our separate ways. No more questions."
He was already wheeling himself to his room, and if it were before the revelation, Joanna would have given up, but not when their marriage was soon going to be announced to the world.
After the divorce, she would be the one to face uncomfortable situations, even if she decides to relocate as Alex suggested.
There were so many enemies, and surely, they would be happy to hear about the divorce. Alex would be united with that woman he talked about, and she would be left to start all over.
"You have to understand that aside from my shares, you are gaining more in this marriage than I am. The least you can do is be nice."
Alex halted from where he had reached with the wheelchair, spinning it around to face her.
Joanna had every right to think that way because she didn’t know the plans he had for her, but it wasn’t as if he was going to tell her.
For the six months, it would be worth it, and she will be well paid, so how was Alex going to be the greatest benefactor of this agreement?
To not complicate matters, Alex thought of a smart way. "If you can tell me about your childhood, then I will tell you."
That should be easy, right? Exactly what Joanna thought, but as she tried to remember anything about her childhood, nothing came up.
"I...I can’t remember." She was suddenly stammering, Alex shrugged. "Then I also can’t remember why I killed that bastard."
