The Female CEO's Personal Bodyguard

Chapter 2786: I’ll Definitely Stand by Your Side!

"He might already be dead."

Carson Flores blinked, looking into Nerisse Blaine’s eyes, watching her reaction.

Nerisse Blaine froze for a moment, her expression shifting from solemn to suspicious. "What do you mean?"

Although Carson trusted Nerisse quite a bit, he was a wanted fugitive of the Myriad Immortals Palace, and she was the Saintess of the Separation Sea Sect, one of the Twelve Immortal Gates. There was simply no way he could reveal his true identity to her; how he phrased things now was very important.

"Back then, when he came to me to form a team, I already felt something was off. My impression of him matched your view—I felt he might harbor ill intent toward me. So I didn’t tell him my true strength, I only told him I was a Great Land Fairy of the Triple Realm..."

A look of shock appeared on Nerisse’s face. Even though Carson hadn’t yet recounted the rest, she had already roughly guessed it.

Raelith Rhodes wanted to screw Carson over, but Carson’s strength was no weaker than his. In that case, the one to suffer a setback would definitely be Raelith Rhodes.

Maybe he’d tried to kill Carson, only to be killed by Carson instead?

The way Nerisse looked at Carson turned rather subtle, even a little strange.

Carson noticed her expression, but he assumed she was simply guessing the rest of the story, which was why she looked like that, so he didn’t take it too much to heart.

Since he’d already mentioned that he’d concealed his strength, the rest of the story was easy to tell. Carson gave an honest account of everything that had happened—of course, the final part had been slightly polished.

"To chase me down, he charged in after me. I lured him into the midst of a Crystal Scorpion encirclement. He erupted with Combat Power, slaughtering like a madman, but with so many Crystal Scorpions, he was hopelessly outnumbered. He suffered heavy injuries and was hunted all the way by several terrifyingly strong Crystal Scorpions, then vanished into the black mist."

"After he left, I came out and killed off all the remaining Crystal Scorpions, took their stingers, and came here. Maedryn Cobb didn’t want to team up with me, and after waiting for ages without seeing anyone return, he went down into the Abyss alone to kill Crystal Scorpions. And then you showed up."

Nerisse’s beautiful eyes fixed on Carson. "Since he wanted to harm you, and your strength is on par with his, why didn’t you just kill him outright? You may be kind to people in daily life, but once you make a move, you’re anything but merciful..."

Carson spread his hands. "He’s a genius of the Abyssal Sect, with that sect backing him. He can scheme against me because I’m a Loose Cultivator with no backing. But if I acted directly against him and he didn’t die—if he managed to escape—then I’d be finished."

"People without backing can only grit their teeth and endure. If I had a background like yours, with the Separation Sea Sect behind me, even if he disliked me and wanted to deal with me, he’d have to think it over more than once. I used the Crystal Scorpions against him; if he’s alive, it’s because he has great luck. If he’s dead, well, that has nothing to do with me..."

Nerisse looked into Carson’s eyes, then after a few seconds smiled. "You’re pretty wicked yourself, even going so far as to impersonate a Great Land Fairy. I bet when he learns the truth, even if he doesn’t die, he’ll cough up blood from sheer rage."

Carson nodded. "That’s my guess too. He thought he was so clever, only to be outplayed by me. If he ever finds out the truth, his expression will be priceless."

Nerisse gave a slight smile and withdrew her gaze. "Haven’t seen you for half a year. Did you learn it?"

Carson naturally knew what she was asking about. He clasped his hands and offered her a solemn thanks. "I did. And I must thank you, Fairy Blaine. Otherwise, getting this opportunity would’ve been nearly impossible for me."

Nerisse’s smile was radiant. "Helping you was just a small effort for me. You helped me by saving my life—that’s a real, solid favor. Once my life’s gone, everything’s gone. I’m someone who keeps clear accounts of favors and grudges. You’re my benefactor. Even if everyone else targets you and wants to deal with you, I’ll definitely stand on your side rather than kicking you while you’re down."

"Raelith harming you was, in the end, still because of me. For you, it was a disaster out of nowhere. Even if he didn’t die, I’d definitely see justice done for you. So even if you killed him with your own hands, it’d be fine. A guy like that dying is no loss at all—as long as you don’t get caught."

Carson’s heart gave a jolt. There was a deeper meaning in Nerisse’s words.

What did she mean by ’even if everyone else targets you and wants to deal with you’?

Carson didn’t know if he was being overly sensitive—after all, he did have a guilty conscience. But that was something he absolutely couldn’t ask her about; he could only swallow his doubts.

"Thanks. With Fairy Blaine watching my back, I don’t have to be afraid of anyone."

Carson joked with a smile, then his expression turned serious. "By the way, Fairy Blaine, I heard from the Island Master you’re still short two thousand Points for your mission. How much do you still need?"

Nerisse replied, "I did some missions over the last half year, and I’ve been hunting Crystal Scorpions these past few days. All together, I probably have about eight hundred Points."

Carson’s eyes lit up. "I just scored a huge bargain down there—picked up more than a hundred stingers. If I add in what I already have, that should be enough to cover the two thousand Points you’re missing."

Hearing that Carson had gotten over a hundred stingers, Nerisse wasn’t surprised. She smiled, eyes narrowed. "Over a hundred, that’s quite a lot. You really did stumble into a huge bargain."

Carson chuckled. "Well, I have a certain friend to thank for that, don’t I?"
